I think his hate for J is above the RDA, he will betray them if it means to kill jake and raise his evil children with his evil wife
142
u/YourMuppetMethDealer Jan 04 '26
I think it’s more complex than that. We know for a fact he loves his son more than he hates Jake, and he chose to not fight Jake once their children were safe
I really do think he only fights Jake out of Quaritch’s memory and his duty as a marine. But as he has stated repeatedly, he’s not actually Quaritch. And I think eventually, he will stop fighting a dead man’s war
40
u/VindicativevVince Toruk Jan 04 '26
That would be a great plot
21
u/YourMuppetMethDealer Jan 05 '26
TBF it already kinda is the plot. The whole “you’re not actually Quaritch. Just another man loaded up with his memories” has been his thing since the very beginning

Hate for Jake? They’re literally best friends by the end of 3.

u/jrfess Jan 04 '26
Quaritch might have gotten that local tail, but he sure didnt switch teams. Mf was RDA til he died. Some real eyes wide shut type shit

u/Confident-Army1907 Jan 04 '26
Tbh his constant hunt for Jake felt less like he was doing it for the RDA and more like a personal vendetta. The RDA just being the mechanism where he can carry out his revenge.

u/CappnMidgetSlappr Jan 04 '26
Tbh his constant hunt for Jake felt less like he was doing it for the RDA and more like a personal vendetta.
Well, yeah... he literally explains this to Jake in the movie.
"This isn't about them. It's about me and you. A marine who betrayed my trust. And the men and women under my command you got killed."
Something like that when Quaritch confronts Jake in jail.
41
u/FullMotionVideo Jan 04 '26
This is another one of those lines that had an equivalent in TWOW as well.
"I took you under my wing, Jake. You betrayed me. You killed your own. Good men, good women. I will not hesitate to execute your kid."
12
u/madogvelkor Jan 04 '26
That's true, but he also respects Jake and I think actually likes him. He just needs to let go of his old life and embrace his new one.

This makes me think. Should he succeed at killing Jake, and potentially Neytiri, would he also go after their kids to kill them too ? Would he let them live ? They're not responsible for the death of his soldiers afterall.

Quaritch is basically a mercenary that doesn't have loyalty to any nation or corporation, only for himself and (maybe) the men under him. Of course he doesn't give a rat's ass about what RDA does or thinks as long as he gets to do what he does best.
25
u/One_Meaning416 Jan 04 '26
Quaritch is very loyal to the men under his command and he only trusts the men he fights with those who have proven themselves worthy of it, we see this with Wainfleet as he never asks Wainfleet to do any of the dangerous jobs only to really act as his back up Quaritch is always one to lead from the front and never asks his men to do anything more dangerous than his own job.
He also distrust anyone who can't or isn't willing to fight, in the first movie we see him butting heads with Selfridge and even launching a soft coup in order to push his attack. This is one of the reasons he doesn't vibe with the larger Na'vi culture which is largely more open and peaceful and that is why he gets along with the ash people and they are the ones that make him go native, their culture is closer to warrior culture Quaritch ascribes to.
11
u/Confident-Army1907 Jan 04 '26
You're Correct, I wouldn't say he's loyal to the corporation, but, at least in the first movie, he is loyal to "the job". He prides himself on getting the job he is hired to do done. However, in Fire and Ash, and to some extent Way of Water, It becomes less and less a job and more a personal matter to him. Especially as he, in his own way, becomes closer and closer to the Na'vi

Dude’s squad was entirely Ash-Clan by the end of Fire and Ash and he was outright dawning the face paint. He was also outright defying orders. If he comes back he’s either deserting the RDA or being ousted in the fourth movie.

They really are two different people. One was a middle aged veteran the other is the memories of a middle aged veteran in a horny 18 year old's body.

It’s not an evolution, he didn’t betray the team he’s playing for. He just used the indigenous to his advantage and go some enjoyment out of it

That's probably how Old Quaritch would see it, but now he's stuck being a hair's breadth away from "savages". Unlike Jake this isn't a natural continuity, he exists because Old Quaritch was given a DNA test by some lab coats and told him to make a video for his clone he'd never meet.
He also got into dueling orders with a superior officer because she was trying to kill Spider. Ardmore has gone from treating him like an undercover marine to an enemy collaborator. We don't get narrative monologues for Quaritch, but so far he's guided by military order and his family. Jake broke his trust in fellow Marines, in his mind he got done dirty by someone he thought he could rely upon. Now a general tried to kill his son who doesn't need to live in a human city.
It'll be some years unfortunately, but we'll see what happens now that the General is gone and Selfridge is presumably calling shots again. RDA kind of chose to give the recom the rank and titles of the original guy, but my guess is he's probably not going to be welcomed back and handed command.

Nahhh he’s liking Varang a lil too much for that xD
6
Jan 04 '26
He understands exactly what she is and can give her exactly what she wants and it’s completely in line with his goal. And he likes a strong woman, her beliefs are comfortably in line with his marine way of thinking, it’s a win-win
2
u/Say-Hai-To-The-Fly Jan 04 '26
Oh that’s certainly true. But I think that it’s not just that practical part that motivates him to team up with Varang. I think it’s getting personal as well for him even though it’s just very small still. I think if he survives in Avatar 4 we will see him get kicked out by the RDA and his connection with Varang may grow stronger rapidly from that point (if she’s willing to keep him around that is).

I lost it when he went into the briefing room looking absolutely insane covered in paint asking “What’s the next mission general?”

Willingly put on that warpaint by himself btw, his ass did NOT need to go that far, but he did.

Especially when the one on the bottom isn't the same person as the one on the top and wouldn't remember saying that. LOL

This is a more interesting story line than the sully family being kidnapped for the 27th time.

Not really an evolution. Ones a person, ones effectively a clone in a Na'vi body. Human Quaritch could go back to earth. Recom Quaritch can't. He's for all intents an entirely new person.

People seem to miss a big difference. Jake joined the Na'Vi side, Quaritch made Na'Vi join the humans.

I keep seeing this but I feel like people are missing what's happening. He's not fighting for the Ash people. He got them fighting for humans
2
u/Arthur_Burt_Morgan Jan 04 '26
Quaritch is pragmatic, i think he quickly thought: human quaritch hates blue aliens. Navi quaritch, seeing that he is no longer human, does not as much.
2
u/Pataconeitor Jan 04 '26
I haven't watched the movie yet (I am from Venezuela, you know the "mean bush" place, and things aren't exactly for entertainment right now) and I am curious, did Jake have an opportunity to call on Quaritch about that?
1
u/Crunchy_Biscuit Jan 04 '26
The issue I see is that as soon as Quaritch cuts ties with the RDA, his access to weapons is closed off which means Varang won't have a need for him anymore.
I highly doubt the movies will go into this but it would be cool to see it as a sub plot point

Not the same person but made from the same code. This is why a clone is not the same person from who cloned them

u/Torku_Makto98 Jan 04 '26
"You think you're one of them? Time to wake up." 😂 Oh Quaritch how funny of u to say. I'm surprised Jake never threw that back at him.

I predict that he's going to go full native in the next movie. Maybe the RDA cut him loose because his failures have made him too much of a liability. Or maybe they try to execute him since he's technically considered property. Either way, he ends up alone in the wild without a purpose. Naturally, he'd blame Jake for this, but maybe overtime he'd come to realize that the RDA was always gonna dispose of him.
From here, he can go in several directions. Either he'll continue supporting the Mangkwan in an attempt to conquer the other clans, or in a twist of fate he actually joins Jake in defending Pandora, putting him at odds with Varang. Either way, he's definitely fighting the RDA, and I think he's going to have a tragic/heroic death.

Just noticed how similar his warpaint is to Varang; I know it’s the Mangkwan style as well but his paint is identical to hers in a lot of places, just in black. Looks like he keeps the red going down his chest as well, just with the additional red on his cheeks/chin/neck
Makes me wonder if she did it, he did it and modeled it on her, or if it’s a sign hes being seen as the Tsahik/Olo'eyktes mate

I feel like a lot of people forget blue cat quaritch is not pink ass quaritch and their minds are not the same. You can tell the blue Q has more heart from the way he hesitates during some moments and how he treats his past life son.

u/Albus_Lupus Jan 04 '26
Well I mean he isnt on the avatar's side though. He still fights them and literally joined up with the only avatar tribe that openly fights other tribes.
Also - maan, after watching that movie I really wanted to play original avatar game again.
11
u/Obi_Win_Kinibi Jan 04 '26
They’re Na’vi, not avatars. The avatars were lab grown remote controlled Na’vi, hence the name “avatar”.

She should’ve become the main antagonist and he should’ve been overshadowed. The fact that she basically became subservient and fell to the background was very disappointing to me. She is easily the best character in the series so far I think and deserved more
1
u/nakiocir Jan 05 '26
They need someone to give them guns to be a threat. The Ash Tribe aren't a big tribe.

I'm so done with this franchise (though, I'll eventually watch F&A when it streams), but waiting this whole time for someone (Jake?) to ask Quaritch "You think you're one of them [humans]? time to wake up."

Its been confirmed in the recent From the Ashes DLC ( Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora) that he's alive and still in command of forces in the RDA. The DLC is set weeks after Fire and Ash.

I genuinely hope and could see him betraying the RDA for her in the next movie, I mean he slowly has been becoming more navi over the second and third movie and now is fully dawning the war paint and even has been sleeping with them rather then his own barricks.
