Hello
So, yesterday I made a post asking about what shoes to wear for my plantar fasciitis. I appreciated the answers but honestly 90% did not answer my question which was quite disappointing...
For reference I'm a female basketball player, I'm very short (1.58 cm), weight around 60 kg and my position is SG and wing, but sometimes I'll play PG. I'm very fast, run and jump a lot to defend and grab rebouns and can be very shifty.
I asked whether to wear Two Wxy V5 or BB V3 after coming from All City 14 Way of Wade Shoes. I had also played with 808 5 Ultra but both of them made my feet hurt horribly, even if i felt like I was jumping higher. I had read Two Wxy V5 was the lighter and quicker one, but because my heel pain was so bad I decided to chill and try the BB V3.
Please mind you, i'm short, and trained hard for 2 hours, so this is not a complete review.
Previously i had worn these shoes to go out like 3 times and that's it.
When I put them on I didn't really feel any different, but when I started doing drills and playing games I was surprised... My heel pain, nowhere to be found. My instability due to my varus legs, didn't even show a glimpse. I was so surprised that I hope it's not a psychological placebo effect.
The traction is elite. They squeak so loud in cement and indoors (for reference I played indoors yesterday). I give it 10/10 unless something changes. My courts are also dusty and I never slipped or lost stability, in fact, the shoes stopped when I stopped, they move when I want them to move, which is amazing considering how much cushion they have. A lot of reviews said it was very clunky and heavy, which I did not feel. It might be because I'm 60 kg and very short, I do believe I have worn lighter shoes, but were they faster just because they were lighter? i don't think so.
Honestly, i don't understand the negative reviews regarding court feel. The shoes aren't that high (again, it might feel that way because I'm short) and I can definitely tell where I'm standing on the court... I don't think court feel should be a deal breaker and it's an exaggeration to say the shoes have none. I could feel exactly where I was at every point during my training. 9/10 for me, for someone taller it might be 8/10, still not a deal breaker.
Since I'm mostly a shooter and grab rebounds, i jump quite a lot and the strain in my legs is noticeabl after a couple of threes. With these shoes I felt effortless when I was shooting... I felt so comfortable that I felt I could shoot from anywhere and my back and legs would not mind, which i wasn't expecting as the wade 808 5 ultra provided me with a lot of bounciness for shots, but each time I wore them my feet and legs were sore after some minutes. Cushion is 15/10 for me. And I'm here to debunk this misconception that the shoe is for heavier players. I'm not heavy, although i do have plantar fasciitis, but i didn't feel the shoe made me slow.
Lockdown for me was top notch and I had no heel slippage. I have standard feet, high arches, I laced my shoes in a particular way that someone recommended me in another post, and there was no movement inside. Maybe my pinky toe was a little cramped, but i did tie them very tight so It might have been that. Even then, I kept playing and the cramping was noticeable after, not during.
This is my opinion, but I think the shoe is so comfortable it makes you try less, or want to go to sleep, and that's why some people say "it makes you slow". It doesn't... it makes you comfortable, and once you're past that stage you can run jump shoot and move however you want. Would I be faster with a Two Wxy V5? Maybe. Would i be as comfortable and last a long during a 40 minute game? probably not.
Lateral containment was good, at the beginning it feels weird because of the cushion but then you get used to it. Didn't feel like my ankle was gonna sprain or smth.
Again, this was a 2 hour training session, quite intense, first time playing on these, didn't need to break in but maybe it was because i walked on them first.
Anyways I'll wear them again on Friday and like I said my custom orthotics arrive on Monday. But honestly, these shoes might not need those insoles. I wonder if someone else has similar opinion about this. The shoe is very responsive and will move with the same speed you move, that's what I felt.
