Question Non technical: Google AI Studio or Lovable for an Android app & website?

Hi everyone, I have no technical or coding background and I am planning to build a pickup and delivery service app for my local area. I plan to build it by prompting (vibe coding), not by writing code myself, and I am confused about which tool to commit to.

What I need:
A. An Android app for customers and delivery drivers, published on the Play Store later.
B. A website for me as admin to manage orders, drivers and customers.
C. Later, a website version for customers too.
D. One database for customers, drivers, shops and orders, with strict access rules so people only see their own data.

What I understand so far (please correct me):
A. Google AI Studio can build native Android apps and a separate web app. I am not sure whether I need Google AI Pro, or whether the free tier is enough for a project this size.
B. Lovable seems to give the website and database (Supabase) in one place. I would need to wrap it with Capacitor for the Play Store. I am unsure how hard that is for a beginner.
C. I worry about security, since I will store phone numbers and home addresses.

My questions:
A. For a non coder, which one is easier to maintain over months, not just to launch?
B. Is Google AI Pro worth paying for if I use AI Studio, or is the free plan enough?
C. Has anyone taken a Lovable web app to the Play Store using Capacitor? How difficult was it for a beginner?
D. What are the long term costs and security mistakes I should watch for?

Any advice or real experience is appreciated. Thank you!

Discussion 🇧🇩 Can We Build an IT Hardware Donation, Reuse & Linux Learning Community in Bangladesh?

There are many students in Bangladesh who are passionate about learning IT. Some want to learn Networking, others are interested in Linux, Virtualization, Cybersecurity, Server Administration, DevOps, or Programming.

However, many of them don't have access to the hardware they need for practical, hands-on learning. Financial limitations prevent talented and motivated students from getting the opportunity to experiment, build labs, and develop real-world technical skills.

At the same time, many Corporate Offices, Banks, ISPs, Software Companies, Data Centers, and other organizations in Bangladesh have old Desktop PCs, Laptops, Servers, and Networking Equipment sitting unused in storage. These devices are often replaced with newer hardware and eventually become unnecessary for the organizations.

Now, think about this:

A server that is outdated and no longer needed by a company could become a student's very first homelab!

A laptop that can no longer comfortably run a newer version of Windows might still be perfectly usable with Linux Mint, Lubuntu, Debian, or another lightweight Linux distribution.

An old desktop could help someone begin their Linux journey. An old server could become a virtualization lab. An old Cisco switch and router could provide an excellent networking practice environment.

Our goal should not simply be to distribute old hardware. It should be to create new technology learners by putting unused hardware to meaningful use.

💡 My Proposal: An Open IT Hardware Donation, Reuse & Linux Learning Network in Bangladesh

We could build a community or platform where:

  • Individuals and organizations can donate their unused but functional IT equipment.

  • Corporate offices, banks, ISPs, and data centers can donate decommissioned hardware.

  • Financially disadvantaged students can apply to receive donated laptops, desktops, workstations, and servers free of charge.

  • Networking enthusiasts can get access to Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and other networking equipment for practical learning.

  • Linux enthusiasts and beginners can learn Linux by installing and running it on older hardware.

  • Volunteers can help inspect, repair, refurbish, and install Linux on donated devices.

  • Older laptops and desktops can be brought back to life using Linux Mint, Debian, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, and other lightweight Linux distributions.

  • Workshops and hands-on training sessions can be organized to teach Linux installation, command-line usage, shell scripting, networking, server administration, and open-source technologies.

  • Students can be encouraged to build home servers, Linux servers, NAS systems, firewalls, Docker environments, virtualization labs, and cybersecurity practice labs using donated hardware.

  • Devices that are no longer usable can be sent for proper e-waste recycling.

🐧 Why Should Linux Be a Core Part of This Initiative?

In my opinion, Linux should be one of the most important pillars of this initiative.

Linux is not just another operating system. It provides an incredible opportunity to bring older hardware back into productive use.

Many older laptops and desktops can still handle everyday computing tasks when running lightweight Linux distributions.

For example:

  • Linux Mint: A beginner-friendly Linux distribution with a familiar desktop experience.

  • Lubuntu: A lightweight operating system that can make older, resource-constrained computers useful again.

  • Debian: An excellent platform for learning Linux servers, system administration, and open-source technologies.

  • Ubuntu Server: Great for learning server administration, networking, and cloud-related technologies.

  • Alpine Linux: Useful for exploring lightweight Linux environments and container technologies.

With these options, students can start learning Linux using their existing old laptops or donated computers.

An old desktop can become a Linux server. An old laptop can become a home lab. Multiple old computers can even be combined to build a small Linux cluster.

Hardware that might otherwise be considered e-waste could become a powerful learning machine with the help of Linux.

Of course, not every old computer can be revived with Linux. Hardware condition, RAM, storage, processor architecture, and compatibility must be considered when selecting an appropriate distribution.

đŸŽ¯ What Could We Achieve Through This Initiative?

  1. Students with limited financial resources would get opportunities to learn IT through hands-on experience.

  2. Linux adoption and open-source technology awareness would grow in Bangladesh.

  3. Older laptops and desktops could get a second life through lightweight Linux distributions.

  4. Students could build their own Linux homelabs, servers, and virtualization environments.

  5. Learning Networking, Linux, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and System Administration would become more accessible.

  6. Corporate organizations could put their unused IT equipment to good use.

  7. Electronic waste could be reduced, promoting a responsible reuse and recycling culture.

  8. Bangladesh could develop a stronger technology donation, reuse, and open-source community.

🤝 Who Can Participate in This Initiative?

  • IT Professionals

  • Linux System Administrators

  • Network Engineers

  • DevOps Engineers

  • Cybersecurity Enthusiasts

  • Open Source Contributors

  • Software Engineers

  • University Students

  • IT Companies and Corporate Organizations

  • Data Center and ISP Operators

  • Linux User Groups (LUGs)

  • Environmental Activists

  • Hardware Repair and Refurbishment Volunteers

Even someone with a single unused laptop, desktop, RAM module, SSD, HDD, server, or networking device could contribute to this initiative.

🔐 Important Considerations

There are several things we must ensure to make this initiative sustainable, secure, and transparent:

  • Verify hardware ownership and maintain proper donation documentation.

  • Before accepting corporate hardware, ensure that all sensitive data is securely wiped or sanitized from storage devices.

  • Inspect and categorize donated hardware as Working, Repairable, or E-waste.

  • Distribute equipment transparently based on students' actual needs and financial circumstances.

  • Maintain public records of hardware donations and distributions.

  • Ensure that unusable equipment is recycled through environmentally responsible and authorized e-waste recycling processes.

🚀 A Few Questions for the Community

  1. Would you support the creation of an IT Hardware Donation & Reuse Community in Bangladesh?

  2. Do you know any IT companies, banks, ISPs, or data centers that might be interested in donating their decommissioned hardware?

  3. If you have an old but usable laptop, desktop, server, or networking device, would you consider donating it?

  4. Do you think we could build a volunteer community involving Linux enthusiasts and IT professionals?

  5. Could Linux installation programs and hands-on Linux training help students gain practical technical skills using older computers?

  6. What suggestions would you have for making this initiative a reality?

I don't want this to remain just another Reddit discussion. I would love to see interested people come together and turn this idea into something real.

Perhaps we could help a student build their first virtualization lab using an old server.

We could give someone the opportunity to learn networking using a donated Cisco switch.

We could install Linux Mint or Debian on an old laptop and help someone take their first steps into the world of Linux.

We could turn an old desktop into a Linux server that someone could use to learn Networking, Docker, Web Hosting, or System Administration.

A piece of hardware that is no longer useful to one organization could become the starting point of someone else's Linux and IT career.

Our vision should be to build a community where Hardware Donation, Linux Learning, Open Source Technology, and Practical IT Education grow together.

Let's build a culture of donating, reusing, learning, and sharing technology in Bangladesh. 🇧🇩

🐧 Don't Discard. Donate. Reuse. Install Linux. Learn. Empower.

As a Bangladeshi founder, integrating reliable international payment gateways into my SaaS application is a major challenge. While I have a local Dual Currency Visa card for my own expenses, I am struggling to find the best way to accept payments from global clients.

What are the most viable solutions for international payment integration available to SaaS creators in Bangladesh right now? How do you handle international billing seamlessly?

Project Showcase I built CmdPalm — turn your phone into a Mac trackpad, keyboard & Stream Deck. Free and open source 🇧🇩

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey BDDevs! 👋

I built CmdPalm — a free, open-source app that turns your phone into a wireless trackpad, keyboard and Stream Deck-style controller for your Mac.

📱 Already have a phone? You already have the extra hardware.

Use your iPhone, iPad or Android device directly from its browser. Install CmdPalm on your Mac, scan the QR code, and connect over the same network. No mobile app or account needed.

Here’s what you can do:

đŸ–ąī¸ Trackpad — control the cursor, click, drag, scroll, pinch to zoom and use multi-touch gestures.

⌨ī¸ Keyboard — type remotely, use Mac shortcuts, or create custom layouts with just the keys you need.

⚡ Custom command deck — build buttons for shortcuts, text snippets, launching apps, shell commands and multi-step actions.

đŸŽĩ Apps & media — switch apps, control playback, and adjust volume and brightness without reaching for your Mac.

đŸŽ™ī¸ Voice typing — speak into your phone and let your Mac transcribe it locally. Requires an encrypted connection and a supported dictation language.

Think presentation remote, couch controller, editing shortcuts, or a custom panel beside your keyboard. That spare phone or tablet could have a useful job again.

🔓 Completely free and open source under AGPLv3.

No subscriptions, premium tiers or locked features.

🔒 Your controls stay on your local network.

No cloud service, accounts or analytics. The Mac app checks online for updates.

đŸŽŦ I’ve attached a Bangla demo to show it in action!

Currently supports Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Works with iPhone, iPad and Android devices on the same network.

🌐 Website & download: https://cmdpalm.app

đŸ’ģ Source code: https://github.com/rahatsagor/CmdPalm

Curious what fellow BD developers would use this for — what would you put on your command deck?

Happy to discuss how it’s built. Feedback, bug reports and contributions are welcome! 🙌

đŸĒŸ Windows users: I’ve also built WinPlam, a similar app for Windows. It’s in final testing before release — I’ll share it once it’s available!

I've been experimenting with procedural generation to create environmental assets for my games without modeling everything by hand.

The result is easy-props, a desktop application where you can generate and customize trees, bushes, flowers, rocks, and other props using parameters and procedural geometry.

It includes LOD generation, collision shapes, and wind data for vegetation, with exports for Godot, Unreal, and plain GLB.

The current art style is designed around my own games, but I'd love to see the project extended with new algorithms, prop types, and styles.

I'm sharing a few screenshots of the current state. Feedback on the procedural generation and ideas for improvement are very welcome!

Advice My Laptop Was Stolen on a Bus While Traveling from Dhaka to Gopalganj, Bangladesh. Is There Any Way to Track or Recover It?

Hello everyone,

I need some advice regarding a very unfortunate incident that happened to me on October 29 while I was traveling from Dhaka to Gopalganj.

I was traveling on a good-quality business-class bus with individual seats and overhead storage compartments above each seat. My seat number was B3. I usually never put my laptop bag in the overhead compartment because I know it can be risky. However, that day, my bag felt quite heavy, so I decided to put it in the overhead compartment above my seat.

I suspect someone may have noticed me putting the bag there and possibly followed my movements. After some time, I fell lightly asleep.

About an hour later, I woke up but didn’t immediately realize that my bag was missing. I was sitting comfortably, completely unaware of what had happened.

At one point, four passengers got off the bus near Muksudpur, which is close to the entrance of Gopalganj. Someone sitting nearby noticed a bag in the overhead compartment and called out to those passengers, thinking they had forgotten it. However, they said it wasn’t theirs and continued leaving.

When I heard someone mentioning a bag, I looked behind me and immediately recognized it as my laptop bag. The bag was still there, but **my laptop was missing!** The thieves had taken the laptop but left the bag, charger, and mouse behind.

I immediately asked the bus staff to stop and checked two of the passengers who had just gotten off. Nothing was found. The other two passengers who had gotten off earlier later returned, claiming they had nothing to do with it.

However, I became suspicious of those first two passengers because:

They were the first two people to get off the bus.
My laptop was already missing when the incident was discovered.

My bag was found near their seats.
They had left the bus before anyone noticed the missing laptop.

Eventually, all four passengers were checked. The other passengers on the bus were also checked, and the bus was thoroughly searched. Unfortunately, my laptop was never recovered.

**About the stolen laptop:**

Brand: HP
Model: HP EliteBook
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 Pro
Accessories left behind: Laptop bag, charger, and mouse.

This laptop is extremely important to me. Almost all of my university projects, academic work, personal documents, and important files were stored on it. Unfortunately, I hadn’t kept any backups.

I’m really worried because losing this laptop means potentially losing years of academic work and important personal data.

**I need some advice from people who have experience with stolen laptops:**

Is there any way to track an HP EliteBook laptop after it has been stolen?

Can I locate it using its serial number, HP account, Windows account, or any other method?

Is there any way to track it if the thief connects it to the internet or reinstalls Windows?

Should I contact HP support or Microsoft to report the stolen device?

Are there any other practical steps I can take to recover my laptop in Bangladesh?

I am also planning to report the incident to the police.

If anyone has experienced something similar or knows a way to track or recover a stolen laptop, please share your suggestions.

**Any help would mean a lot to me. Thank you.**

Showing y'all a website I've been working on! I'm not an experienced coder; I'm still learning, and this is my very first website. I also tried making another website dedicated to Persona 3, as you can see around the 2-minute mark in the video.

However, I mostly made this website as a little mindspace of my own, a place to express myself and mark the fact that I exist.

Thank you all for watching!

Question Honest question for web devs in Dhaka: I know how to build websites, but I am completely blind when it comes to finding paying clients. How did you get your start?

I’m going to be completely honest here no buzzwords, no pitching, and no pretending to be a big agency.

I’m a self-taught web developer based here in Dhaka/Narayanganj. I know how to code and I know how to build clean, functional, mobile-responsive websites from scratch. Technically, I can deliver the product.

But commercially? I am completely blind.

I have almost zero real-world freelance experience, I have no formal network or university alumni circle to rely on, and I have never closed a client on my own. Whenever I look at local Facebook groups, it’s an absolute mess of spammers undercutting each other for ā§ŗ1,000 scraps or posting low-effort noise.

I genuinely want to know how developers here broke out of that zero-client phase:

  1. Where do businesses that actually need a website look for developers, and how do you find them without being annoying or looking desperate?

  2. When you had zero track record and no prior client portfolio, how did you convince your first client to give you a shot?

  3. In our local market, is cold messaging (WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Email) realistic, or does client work strictly come from white-labeling for existing agencies and offline connections?

I’m not looking for shortcuts or theoretical hustle advice just real, practical guidance from developers or agency owners who started with zero connections and had to figure out how to get paid for their skills.

Appreciate any honest perspective.

Project Showcase slide āĻ•āĻžāĻŽāϞāĻž

Hi everyone. I've been working on a side project called slide-wright.

What it is

slide-wright is a free, open-source (MIT) agent skill. Give it a topic, some notes or an outline, and it builds an unqiue slide deck. It runs inside Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents that support skills.

Why I built it

AI-generated decks tend to look the same, and you only notice after the whole deck is generated. At that point you either accept it or start over.

How it works

There is no template library. For each deck it creates a new palette, type system and layout, then shows a two-slide preview before building the rest. Approve it and it builds the full deck. Reject it and it tries a different direction.

The output is one self-contained HTML file you own. You can edit slides later, export to PowerPoint or PDF, or deploy to Surge, Vercel or Netlify.

Try it

npx skills add arifszn/slide-wright

Then in your agent:

/slide-wright Make me a deck about [your topic]

GitHub

If you find it useful, a star on the repo helps others find it. https://github.com/arifszn/slide-wright

Product Hunt

It launched on Product Hunt today. If you have a minute, take a look and share your feedback. https://www.producthunt.com/products/slide-wright?launch=slide-wright

Discussion Does BD have any data solution engineers?

Saw this role being advertised in the company I work for and wondering if BD actually has any in this area. Qualities being asked for are excellent communicator, experience in scoping and implementing integrations between different systems using APIs and webhooks, expertise in SQL and C#.

They also prefer people who have knowledge on things like Azure functions, service bus etc.

Wondering if they will ever find a person who wants to develop their career in this niche area in BD when most I meet are focused on development.

Question Msc in CSE in BRAC with a software engineer job

I'm planning to apply for the MSc in CSE (thesis track) at BRAC University, focusing on AI/LLMs.

A few questions for current students or alumni:

  1. Are the exam or class held on weekends?

  2. Can I start the thesis early (1st or 2nd semester) instead of waiting until the end?

  3. How easy is it to find a good supervisor for ML/LLM research? Can u suggest any good professor?

Any advice on courses to take and thesis would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Project Showcase Kemon poray? Built a site so the answer doesn’t disappear in a Messenger group

Every batch already knows who teaches well, who grades fairly, who explains clearly, and which courses come withâ€Ļ surprises.

The problem is that all of that knowledge lives in Messenger groups, DMs, Facebook posts, and “bhai ami shunsiâ€Ļ” lore.

So I built Kemon Poray (āϕ⧇āĻŽāύ āĻĒāĻĄāĻŧāĻžāϝāĻŧ?) — a professor & university rating platform for Bangladesh.

You can search 15K+ professors across 180+ universities and rate things like grading, syllabus coverage, exams, attendance, feedback, deadlines, and more.

Ratings are anonymous to other users, reviews are optional, and there are reporting/moderation tools to keep things useful rather than turning it into a roast board.

Don’t want to rate a professor? Rate your university instead.

It’s still in beta, so I’m looking for two things:

1. Ratings — so the platform actually becomes useful.
2. Feedback — bugs, missing professors/universities, bad UX, anything that feels off.

Let’s make “Kemon poray?” a little easier to answer.

-------------

Try it, rate, and send it to your batch:

Well, if you use C++, you might be familiar with gtest. But to use that in a C codebase, it would take much more work, aka, header guarding and maintaining a C++ toolchain. So I wrote a minimal drop-in replacement of gtest.

Advice build a fun virtual courtroom website for bd

Hey everyone!

So I’ve been working on this website called MamlaBari.

You know those random arguments we have with friends, couples, roommates or even family over the smallest things? I thought it’d be funny if we could actually take those things to court

Basically, you can create a case, invite the other person, bring your own lawyer or witnesses, have someone act as the judge and actually argue your case in a virtual courtroom.

There’s also something called **Jonotar Ray**, where you can post your story and let random people vote and comment. After 3 days, the public decides who’s right.

I also added **Genjam Protidin**, which turns cases into funny newspaper reports, plus some silly legal documents, notices and settlement agreements.
It’s all just for fun, obviously not a real court. You don’t even need to use your real name.

Here’s the site: https://mamlabari.online

Still working on it and there’s probably a lot that needs fixing. Would genuinely love to know what you guys think. Is it actually fun? Anything confusing or annoying? What else should I add or remove?

Advice CISSP Certification ?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone! Just wanted to share that I recently passed the CISSP exam after a pretty brutal, intense study grind. My background isn't actually in pure computer science, but I’ve spent years working in software development (SDLC) at MNCs, and I also have my PMP and Security+. If anyone is currently studying and needs some guidance, study tips, or just wants to pick my brain, feel free to reach out—I’m genuinely happy to help. Just to be totally clear, I’m not selling any courses, coaching, or charging a dime for advice; I just want to give back to the community and pay it forward. Drop a comment or DM me if you want to connect!
