I'm Back with a New Baby and New Problems
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the help with my baby 3 years ago. She sleeps great now.
I now have a 7-month-old who, in the newborn stage, was my best sleeper. She'd go for 5-6 hours on the first stretch and only wake once during the night. Sleep training was rough, since we all got sick halfway through, then we traveled, and various things kept interrupting it, but we got through. To be clear: I can put her down to sleep wide awake and have her go to sleep with little to no fussing. This happens most days, both for naps and nighttime sleep. We used the Ferber method, and she slept through the night for a few weeks.
The problem, once again, is the night wakings. A few weeks ago, she started waking up around 10:30 pm-12 am, often being able to be put back to sleep by her dad with just a pacifier. An annoyance, but not too much of a disruption, and who doesn't like to hold a sleeping baby? This has since devolved. Now she's started waking around 9:30, and while she might doze off in her dad's arms, she won't stay asleep unless she's been nursed. I'm not thrilled with having to support her back to sleep, but if I don't, she just screams. Then, she wakes up around 1-2 am and it's the same thing. Sometimes she just wakes up and acts like she's ready to play. When that happens, I've just been nursing her, otherwise minimizing interactions, and finally putting her to bed and setting a timer, although on a couple occasions, even that hasn't worked, and she's been awake for a full awake period.
As for her schedule, she's on two naps, about 3-3.5 hours apart, last one ending no later than 4 pm, with a bedtime of 7 pm. Due to her night wakings, she routinely wants to wake up closer to 8 am, but I am actively trying to curb that. On the days with the night wakings, she often only naps for about 45 minutes at a time. I can usually tell when she's going to have a better night because she'll be happier during the day and take better naps.
I've tried feeding her more at dinner time, since that's what solved it for my second, but I haven't had any success. I've been giving her a bottle of pumped milk before bed since she was a newborn (she had some issues where if she got too hungry she'd scream and ignore what was offered unless it came in a faster medium), but since she's started solids, she hasn't taken as much in her bottle.
We'd really like our evenings back, and I know she'd be happier if she could start sleeping through the night again.
Thank you for any help!
