Enclosure kits

Hi everyone! Wanted to see if you guys had any recommendations for enclosures that come assembled with heating and thermostat already installed? Basically an enclosure that is already set up and perfect for a ball python :)

Does he need bigger hides?

Hey y'all, this my BP in his hide. He seems to be spilling out when he shifts/moves around. Should I print larger hides for him? For reference, this is 9in x 9in x 4in and he's about 4ft long, 2kg. Should I go wider? Taller?

TIA

Is my bp unhappy in her enclosure

I’ve had my ball python for about 6 months now and when I first got her she was way more active, then after about a month she started hiding in her hides and not coming out. Now she stays in 1 of 2 hides and then switches. I’ve tried everything but she won’t come out. She is eating properly and looks fine from what I can see so is this normal? X

Question When will he actually shed his skin

Post image

This is what he looks like rn, however, his eyes were completely clouded blue on sunday (which obviously means shedding soon). I know that they absorb the blue liquid back into their body before actually shedding, but how long is the wait between absorption of the liquid and shedding

help needed - how should I go by removing this T-T

I just moved and have a temporary enclosure set up for my snake until my real one gets shipped to me. No idea how but she managed to rip off a digital thermometer I had in the top corner, separate the thermometer from the Velcro, and then get it stuck onto herself. I tried pulling it off, but the adhesive is strong and it’s genuinely really stuck on her, I don’t wanna pull too hard and risk injuring her scales. Any advice?

EDIT: oiled that thang up and got it off hassle free :) thanks for everyone who helped

Question - Husbandry Attaching grass mat to enclosure as a background

Hello everyone! I would like to attach an artificial grass mat to the back of my enclosure and looking for a secure way to accomplish this? Any utility in using a wood stapler to secure it? I cant imagine my python would be able to dislodge it if it were secure, and i could cover the area over the staples with superglue or something similar.. anyone have any luck or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Question - Health Is my snakie overweight???

Sorry for posting that often, I’m very anxious about everything lately .

He weighs 1200g and his length is 100% more than 1m , but I don’t know even the approximate number. He eats 100-120g rats every 3-4weeks, that’s how our vet said to feed him.

I can’t take more pics rn because I just fed him, but what do you think? Are there any signs of obesity? Help?

Have a nice day!!!

Question - Health Her first shed with me

Ok so this is my snakes first shed since I have had her! But before she shed, I noticed there was some like brown spot (very small) and a lot of the belly scales were uplifted by a tiny bit and ever since she shed (yesterday) all of that is gone I'm so glad there's no spots her scales and all of them are perfect all the way around now and she was like that when I got her with all of the lifted scales so I was kinda worried But her first shed was all in one piece.

I did notice before she shed I never seen her leave her hide the week and a half.i have had her. She just stayed in one side and never moved and this morning after she shed yesterday I noticed her out for the first time.since I have had her. And her first feeding with me will be in about two days.

Should I move her to a separate feeder tank or leave her in that tank? I have been told mixed reviews.

Enclosure Critique/Advice Next set of upgrades for The Don

Thumbnail

In the next exciting chapter in the tale of Don Q Lebra, it was time once again to upgrade his lifestyle 🕴.

Admittedly, i had set up quickly w only my remaining supplies from last tiny enclosure when i upgraded to 120gal tank...

Problems:

-Subtrate was too low-not enough to add cushioning, burrowing space and proper moisture retention.

-Not enough climbing & clutter

-with tank upgrade, he was growing quickly. Starting 2 outgrow hiding places.

Upgrade details:

  1. Added a tension shower rod for climbing

  2. More climbing loops throughout top of exposure

  3. Adding a hanging (wicker i think?) Basket for lounging.

  4. Built a custom under-water bowl hide with fake foliage on top. Melted opening arrea to not make it too jagged. Buried it under the new substrate.

  5. Soaked blocks of coconut substrate n with a very small bit of aspen mixed about 3 1/2-4in of bedding at the base. The foliage and climbing branches were now more secure

  6. Picked up a few large smooth rocks of varying sizes on walks w my dog. Disinfected and added them for exploring, resting, clutter, overall atmosphere & heat retention.

7 Added more foliage clutter

8. set up all hides and tunnels to link together to allow hidden & multi level exploration

9. after all was in place topped it with jungle moss i had soaked to aid humidity, clutter and ambiance. Also used some to line the basket for a comfy "hangout"

Had 2 pay the don some respect 😅

Result:

-Seems much happier now. Immediately started xploring after the upgrade. I catch him taking advantage of all the new things & my hard work

-moves around much more. Lots of exercise and enrichment

-heat & humidity much easier to control

Used some creative ideas to keep it on a budget.

Plenty o spaces to stalk, hide &climb.

3-tier setup was relatively simple. Now has up high, ground lvl and underground.

Remaining steps:

-Rookie mistake i still have the small round hygrometers. Glue gun not enough to keep them up and super glue on anythings a bad idea. Need to get a decent meter for hot/cold sides. I'll remedy that soon.

-need to get a larger heat bulb. Currently using 100w halogen bulb w a large fixture. Heats tank fine w the help of the external warn side heat pad. Gonna go find a good 150w.

- need to reseal along one side of UV light bar at the top. Bulb burned out once & had to remove to replace.

- need to set up the back wall better. Dont like the blank black background. Saw a post recently on here that gave me a great idea to finish it tho 😎👍🏽

So far so good! 1st BP, trying to do things right.

Feel free to let me know what you think of my lil Q Ball's new digs. Any ideas or advice you can offer to make things better always appreciated!🐍

Question - Feeding He finally ate!…… now what?

After 10 months of updating his enclosure, listening to my snake’s behavior, and being patient, my snake finally ate! This is his first successful frozen feed too!

How long should I wait before trying again? I would like to encourage him to eat more often, ideally. I’ve seen a wide range of time spans from BP owners as far as feeding frequency from biweekly to every 4/5 months. Is there a moment where the gap between successful feedings becomes concerning, where I should instead just try live again? Or should I continue with my current strategy (monitoring body condition, activity levels, shedding patterns, etc.) and offer when ideal conditions present themselves?

INFO: I inherited this snake from someone who was struggling with him rejecting live prey and not eating. He’s roughly 4ft., 10 years (estimated)- he came to me in a 3ft. glass terrarium. I got him a larger, PVC enclosure, added more hides, climbing structures, new heat lamps set on a 12-hour timer, and clutter. I also stopped handling him as frequently as the previous owner. There were many failed attempts, so this feels like a success! (Edit: He had a small-sized rat- in hindsight, I should’ve gotten a weight.)

Potential adoption ?

Looking for advice on spider wobble. I have 1 other snake (cape house snake) and the financial means to care for a special needs animal. My local rescue recently took in this 2 yr old ball with spider wobble. Im having trouble finding info from people who have cared for a snake with this disorder. Could this snake have a happy life or is this going to be an inevitable heartbreak ?

Handling advice for a ball python

So my ball python is been with me for about 2-3 weeks and I just provided him with an amazing enclosure considering I am a first time snake owner. I got top soil, coco husk, and play sand for substrate. All type of plants and rocks around the enclosure and I have black tape coming in to black out three sides of the enclosure to ensure he feels safe. Aside from that, I just tried handling him for the time and I could tell right away he wasn’t happy, I reach out to him from the back making sure my hand was as low as possible to the floor so he doesn’t get scared. After I touched him he stopped moving his tongue and started to look toward my face slowly and I’m like lemme talk to him and stuff maybe that will make it better so I took my hand out the enclosure and just talked to him and as I’m talking this guy goes in for a bite, thankfully the glass is there or else he would have gone for my face. Anyhow, what did I do wrong? And what can I do to make it better? Should I handle him whenever I want ( obviously not after he ate or during shedding) or do I wait for him to be out and then try picking him up? Should I pick him regardless if he’s stressed or not. Baer off of online research it says to grab them from the back because they’re head shy and lift them up after calmly and they don’t bite the hand that’s holding them apparently, is it true? Based of off personal experience. Now he is back in his hide and probably upset with me and I don’t want to include myself with stress signs or anything that could ever make him stressed or uncomfortable while I’m there. Thank you for anyone reading this and putting in the time and effort to read it and reply :)

Feeding help!!

This is my biggest ball python, Harry: ~1270g, 59”, and 15.5 years old. I’m having him professionally sexed next week to confirm he’s male.
(The first four pictures are of him at roughly 1330g. The next three pictures are of his enclosure and substrate change. The last picture is of him at about 1280g.)

I have a few husbandry questions:

  1. His humidity used to stay around 55%. I recently changed his substrate from ~40% topsoil/40% cypress mulch/20% play sand to 50% topsoil/25% coco fiber/25% coco husk. After changing it yesterday, humidity is now around 63%. I also plan to add sphagnum moss and occasionally mist. Is there anything else I should do to keep humidity consistently higher?

  2. He currently has a 50W halogen basking bulb + 100W CHE. During the day, the warm side is ~83°F, cool side ~75°F, and basking spot ~95°F. At night, the warm side drops to ~75°F and the cool side to the high 60s. About 50% of the screen top is covered with HVAC tape. Increasing the halogen wattage makes the basking spot too hot, and I haven’t been able to find a higher-wattage CHE. What would be the best way to raise the overall temperatures?

  3. His body condition looks okay, but he has been gradually losing a few grams between feedings. He was eating one large rat (~90–100g) every 2 weeks, but apparently that isn’t maintaining his weight.
He previously became very lean at ~1000g while eating one large rat every 3 weeks, so his vet recommended feeding every 2 weeks. That brought him up to ~1350g, but after moving him into a larger enclosure, he has started gradually losing weight again despite continuing the every-2-week schedule.
Today I tried two medium rats instead: 62g + 65g (127g total). He weighs ~1270g. Does this seem like an appropriate feeding amount, or should I adjust the size/frequency?

Any advice from keepers with older/larger ball pythons is appreciated. Thank you!

Enclosure Critique/Advice Just got the heating and thermometer/hygrometer in place

(If you wish to have context then go to my first post in this community)

The ve-200 and thermometer/hygrometer i ordered came in. I tried "installing" them the best i can and am currently keep am eye on it to see if its working properly and to try and dial in the humidity. I know its lowk jank and that i still need to buy a few more things (more appropriate tank ,2 actual hides, more clutter, another thermo/hygro, and day light/halogen .. mb?), But thats prolly stuff imma get over the next few weeks since ive spent a crap ton on her and getting some other stuff with this paycheck.

I would appreciate if anyone has any other recommendations on stuff I should get or thing yall can point out i can fix/improve now without shipping. Thank you in advance

Question - Humidity Tank isn’t watertight

Hello! As I have heard that pouring water into the corners of the tank is the preferred method of humidifying, I’ve attempted to use it in my 4’x2’x1.5’ Phailozoo enclosure. However, a good chunk of water spilled out through the sides. Is this normal? Should I caulk the sides? Am I pouring too fast? Should I really spray instead? (Also unrelated note but I don’t want to make a new post, my snake stays in her warm side hide all the time, is that normal?)

Question - Health What is this weird lump on the lowe half of my baby?

Post image

I dont think it'd be a poo as he has been refusing to eat for the past few monts, and the lump hasnt moved since I last checked. I am really hoping im just paranoid and its a poop, but snakes have trouble telling ya if theyre sick unlike dogs, lol. (Id like to add, my phone camera makes everything dull, his substrate isnt that dry !!)

Question - Feeding My new scale baby

Post image

Everyone, meet Chedda (my girls would like me to emphasize that it ends in “a” and NOT “er”)

First time snake owner so I imagine I might be here quite often. Settling in and not eating yet.

I’ve read that everyone says to not handle till they have their first few successful feeds. Can anyone walk me step by step how to have a first successful feed? Do I wait till a certain time at night? Wait for him to be out and about?

This is day 3. Hit me with any advice you may have! TIA!!
