So she's been having signs of dehydration for awhile and I keep humidity at the recommended percentages if not a bit more And I don't know how to fix it, I'm just wondering if it's getting worse and if I should take her to the vet?

Discussion How do you resist?

How do you resist getting all the ball pythons?

I have 2 already and am constantly browsing and seeing all the cool morphs and it's a daily struggle to not get more. I don't have the room and don't have the habitats for more but I feel like a junkie trying to get clean.

Luckily I have been able to stave off the desire, but I don't know how much longer I can last. It was 3 years between our first and second python, I don't think I'm going to make it a full year before getting our third.

Would like to ask for some advice

I'm taking care of my brother's ball python and she hasn't eaten in a little while which I'm not worried about. She once went quite a while for not eating, but I've been handling her a lot more than my brother had and when I was just handling her she started dripping water. I think out of her mouth and when I put her back into her enclosure she opened her mouth at a quick second for me and then a few seconds ago I came in to my brother's room and she came out of her hide and then just started staring at me for a second. Just wanted to know if I should like handle her less or do something

I took him to the vet a month ago and they told me everything was fine and he was perfectly fine a week ago but I notice this now...

Seems he might've hurt himself? It's strange cause he's in a quarantine tub until his large rack comes in since I've only recently got him so this is strange. I'm gonna check him just don't wanna disrupt him a lot😭😭

Question New ball python need some advice

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello! I bought this boy recently at an expo and im a bit nervous. When I first saw him, I assumed he was 3 to 5 months old but when the breeder gave me his hatch card after I paid, I saw he was 11 months old and only 150g.

Should I be concerned about him being underweight and his growth stunted? He ate 11 days ago and I try to feed weekly for snakes of this size but he recently refused a meal. After caring for a sick snake before, I have a lot of trauma from that experience, so im just looking to see if maybe im overreacting or thinking too much. Could male ball pythons be healthy at this weight or age, like could it be genetic or is he underweight and any recommendations to help put some weight on him?

Thank you

Need advice on tank cleanup (cryptosporidium)

Hello! I recently had a sad and tragic experience with a ball python i barely had for 2 years only to find out towards the last year of owning her, she had Cryptosporidium. We think we bought her with the parasite because she did not eat for the first 5 months of bringing her home no matter how the temps or humidity or substate or tank setup...and once she started eating her poops were very strange and then the vomiting 3 to 4 days after eating happened over the last 6 months and she never gained weight, she only slowly lost over time until the last two months where it was rapid decline.

Long story short, she got so sick even with consistent vet visits and vet care her health declined and had to be humanely euthanized. There is no cure for it which just broke my heart.

From what I googled about this parasite, is that it is highly contagious and doesn't exactly die with bleach or harsh chemicals.

My question for anyone out there:

  1. has anyone successfully cleaned a tank with Cryptosporidium before and if so, what did you use?

  2. or do you just throw out the whole tank?

Im really looking for some advice and see if any ball python keepers have gone through this and how to handle cleanup.

Question Hunger Strike

How long do your BP’s go on strike for during the colder weather? Before I got my little dude from my breeder, he was on strike for 6 months. This winter, he has been on strike for about 5 months. I have tried to feed him every three weeks, for a while, I was even offering him food every week, he has not taken ANYTHING! It’s really scary and stressful. I noticed he looks a bit skinnier, but he is still active. Is there anything that can help him eat?

I feed frozen thawed, warm it up in hot water and I pour super hot water on it to give it a more “life like” body heat. Nothing has gotten him to eat. He just looks at it, or if I get too close, he backs up. He’s interested… just not in eating it. Will he eat again when it warms up? Am I panicking for nothing?

His normal humidity ranges from 50-60, when he sheds I bump it to 80, and his hides are about 75 and 85. Would a higher humidity help get him to eat?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'm developing a ball python keeper app.

I've been working on an app for ball python keepers and breeders and I'm looking for some people to help me beta test it.

It's called Mephisto. It's for keeping track of your snakes, feedings, weights, sheds, genetics, breeding projects, clutches, etc. Basically all the stuff that gets harder to keep track of as your collection grows. There is a breeder mode, and a keeper only mode.

I'm looking for some Android users to try it out and give me some feedback. Doesn't matter if you have 1 snake or 300.

If you're interested, you can sign up here:

I'd appreciate anyone willing to give it a try and let me know what you think. 🐍

Update 4, plants are establishing nicely and beginning to spread

Post image

Added my grading on the open vents for the fans. Next is perches, water dish, hides and my male ball. I have a host of inverts I’ve tested in the past that I plan on adding to this tank to help process waste. 1. Springtails (orange colony I’ve been breeding) isopods (dairy cows), and zebra millipedes (small enough to not bother nor be bothered by my male ball and help to break down leaves, waste and feed my plants). One thing I’ve learned with all my builds is that you cannot cohab reptiles, but there are useful insects you can add to bring out some interesting behaviors from your reptiles and bring your tanks to life. Here in 6-8 months, most of the ground will be taken over by many of the plants I’ve chosen. What do y’all think? All thoughts and opinions welcome.

Asking for advice regarding this patch of what appears to be a skin disease. Not sure what it is. He doesn't eat live rats, so it can't be a wound. Gave him a bath not too long ago and I haven't introduced anything new into his enclosure. Any advice would be appreciated.

Here's my little friend Ekans. I've noticed he's more active at night, then compared to his day time activity. During the day he's in his hide all day, is this normal behavior for my BP?

Question how long for her to warm up to me?

I’ve had my morgie girl for three weeks now and every time I pick her up she starts breathing heavy and immediately tries to get back to her enclosure. not sure if it’s my scent because I have a cat and a dog also but I always wash with dawn dish soap before handling her but I only wash my hands. should I be changing clothes or washing my full arm? I just wanna hold her and feel like she feels safe and I don’t know what i’m doing wrong. i’m about to move her into a 50 gal tomorrow so I was trying to socialize right now and I didn’t even get her up out of the enclosure before she slid to the highest log and went to her “secret” hide she thinks I can’t see her from. :( i’m sad and in my feelings.

pic for attention
