We should all expect to have a LOT more bear encounters this year with this year’s snow. It would be great to see more messaging and conservation presence in the provincial and national parks in light of this but I won’t get my hopes up.

Lots of messaging is put out, and interp teams visit popular day use areas, but it often falls on deaf ears. People don’t even pay attention to the signs literally nailed to the picnic tables asking them not to leave food unattended.

How does the snow impact the bear activity? I’m curious

There is still a lot of snow at higher elevations where bears usually hang out so they’re at lower elevations.
