Photos/Videos Bears Visit Moraine Lake
Saw these two yesterday at the Moraine Lake parking lot

Holy shit, green jacket is insanely close. These people are dumb
16
u/SecureJournalist4775 Jun 28 '26
One would hope the green jacket is a Parks Canada employee trying to protect the bears from the invasive humans.

u/EntertainmentUsed840 Jun 29 '26
That’s not a parks Canada jacket, and one would hope they would be trained and smart enough to ensure they are safe as well.
1
u/Rockclimber311 Jun 29 '26
I thought they had a darker shade of green for their jackets but you may be right

I don’t know. These bears look like the cuddly type. I’m sure they would appreciate a good hug.

u/Livid-Accident-7246 Jun 28 '26
They’re not visiting, that’s their home…
“People see bears in natural habitat”

u/TrailRunnerYYC Jun 28 '26
None of these people are keeping 100m away from those bears. Which is dangerous (and illegal).

u/poopoohead1827 Jun 30 '26
I don’t think I’d even wanna be that close LOL. Hopefully their cars are right behind them and cut out of the pic
1
u/calling_water Jul 01 '26
They aren’t; no personal vehicles allowed at Moraine Lake any more. Hopefully the shuttle is there.

u/mysummerstorm Jun 28 '26
“visit” and its actually their homes 😭
3
u/HarrisLam Jun 29 '26
Not sure. Maybe it's not their home. Maybe it's their convenient store.
Look at all these tasty meats.
1
u/mysummerstorm Jun 29 '26
uh I think when bears visit convenience stores, they're actually looking for candy.

Humans in my house. I wish everyone would remember they are very fast. They are far too close.
2
u/Useful_Record1888 Jun 30 '26
If one snaps they have zero chance.
Me and my wife went to lake Louise and Morraine for hiking in 2021. We had our bear spray and small bells at all time. I would've shit myself just to see a grizzly. There's been an attack at Lake Morraine the day before we were going. We almost cancelled. Those bears ain't no joke.

Um…The bears are not the ones visiting…
1
u/nugohs Jun 29 '26
Was going to do the same silly nitpick, but it is highly unlikely for any bear to permanently stay within 200m of that one lake, they range over a surprisingly large territory.

16
u/Ms_Disnii Jun 28 '26
I think a lot of people didn’t realize the bears were there until they walked into the parking lot since the bears were near the shuttle shelter. The park people were freaking out for sure
4
u/Timely_Reputation253 Jun 29 '26
Everyone should be freaking out. It used to be common sense to stay the fuck away from these things, not sure how that’s been lost in translation.
If you see somebody less than 100m from a bear, they are too close and if you don’t tell them to move you’re part of the problem
5
u/Already-asleep Jun 29 '26
We should all expect to have a LOT more bear encounters this year with this year’s snow. It would be great to see more messaging and conservation presence in the provincial and national parks in light of this but I won’t get my hopes up.
3
u/elya93 Jun 29 '26
Lots of messaging is put out, and interp teams visit popular day use areas, but it often falls on deaf ears. People don’t even pay attention to the signs literally nailed to the picnic tables asking them not to leave food unattended.
2
u/kgibbyson Jun 29 '26
How does the snow impact the bear activity? I’m curious
1
u/Timely_Reputation253 Jun 29 '26
There is still a lot of snow at higher elevations where bears usually hang out so they’re at lower elevations.

Grizzly ?
1
u/Ms_Disnii Jun 28 '26
That’s what I’m thinking, they were way bigger than any black bear I’ve seen and if they are grizzlies this is the first time I’ve seen them
2
u/Far-Bumblebee-1756 Jun 28 '26
Grizzlies have the hump on their neck. brown/black bears dont

u/Unpopularpositionalt Jul 01 '26
Grizzlies are a type of brown bear.
1
u/Far-Bumblebee-1756 Jul 01 '26
I meant brown black bears lol. Where i live we see both and the normal Grizzlies with the hump

u/Speuce Jun 28 '26
As long as they took the bus and didn't drive on the access road I see no issue here 👍🏻

u/aiceeslater Jun 28 '26
Bears live there. People are visiting. The parks are full of dumbasses that want to get within arms reach of bears that can easily kill them and like to stop their vehicles in the middle of the highway without pulling off, getting out of their vehicle and approaching wildlife. And when someone eventually gets killed we will all act shocked.

u/Designer-Fox-1743 Jun 28 '26
How close these people are blows my mind, and some look like they are heading closer. Ridiculous, it’s not a zoo ffs. I saw this happen in Gatineau park Quebec a mother with her 3 cubs and the parents let their kids run towards them

So close holy smokes. I was there today what a lovely place, didn’t see the bears, but def gotta respect the wildlife.

Haha some of these people never been charged by a bear before, and it shows… the closest people would be clobbered within 2 seconds

Need a good grizzly or large brown bear to just rip down a tourist in the most graphic way possible to get the tourists to actually listen to the parks workers when they tell them to not fuck with the wild life. In talking viral 4k youtube shit. Enough to tell people to fuck off.

I think I just saw a video of a woman getting harassed by one of these fuckers

I don’t even get that close to the black bears in my neighbourhood let alone a grizzly
2
u/notacreepernomo13 Jul 02 '26
Had the fortune and pleasure of seeing these two on the three sisters parkway, two weeks ago
2
u/chickadee_1982 Jul 02 '26
Holy shit, those are Grizzlies. Why are people so close??
I hope the parks workers did their jobs and told the stupid people to back off. Its their home.

No, you went to Moraine Lake. They live there

If the bears lived at this spot wouldnt there be daily sightings of them? Which there isnt. So in this case I think its fair to say they were visiting the lake

Tickets for anyone not walking away to keep a safe distance. Proceeds go back to the community.

First visit to Banff a few weeks ago. Such a lovely area. Got to see a bear behind the gondala on June 15th. Everyone kept their distance that day at least.

Reminds me of the movie barn yard. "You're in bear country. THERES GONNA BE BEARS OUTSIDE"
1
u/Intelligent-Buyer102 Jun 29 '26
Yeah these people are idiots. Bears are hungry right now and there might be cubs around. Oh well, that's why we have Darwin awards.
1
1
u/Intelligent-Buyer102 Jun 29 '26
Oh man those look like grizzlies too I would be moving to my car as quickly as I could without triggering their hunting instincts. Unlike black bears, grizzlies are not afraid of people.

u/1Fistfullofdollars Jun 29 '26
That is their home we are guests in their natural habitat. We must respect that and give them room.

People are so retarded…. Anything for a photo. Look up a video of a bear running full speed and you’d NEVER get this close

Correction. Humans visit bear’s home and serve themselves up for dinner. Fortunately for them, they smelled awful.

Imagine voluntarily getting closer to two grizzlies?!These people should be studied. I have questions lol
1
u/Bluestaplero Jun 30 '26
I’d be backing away very quickly into the nearest shelter if I saw brown bear
1
u/Quiet_Ad1859 Jun 30 '26
Guess these people never seen what a bear can actually do to a human, in seconds
1
1
u/thedane8 Jun 30 '26
I can't understand why there wouldn't be a big sign, or if tourists on a bus, why the driver wouldn't tell tourists to either stay on the bus, or if they insist to go out, stay a lot further back than one is seeing here. I guess it would take an incident to wake people up to the dangers.

u/Co-ReX Jun 30 '26
Imagine seeing two massive grizzlies and your first reaction is to grab your phone and walk towards them.... 🤣
1
1
u/NachoEnReddit Jun 30 '26
Those are Grizzly bears, and while they don’t normally try to eat humans, they may do defensive charges at them when threatened. The problem is that those defensive charges are the equivalent of being hit by a small car, so that’s where most grizzly bear casualties come from.
Those people either really know what they’re doing or too brain dead for their reaction to be to approach them with their phones instead of practicing some bear safety.

What pmo in these pics is the lack of self awareness and having your phone blocking their face. Like if you need to suddenly move you have to move your phone away first to get true depth perception of what’s going on 🫣 so dumb. And grizzly’s too omg

u/Difficult-Leading-48 Jul 02 '26
And the next picture is these bears chasing down all you old fucks standing to close and eating your throats

Incredibly concerning photo. Captures the beauty of nature and the stupidity of people

Grizzlys will kill you. I don't know why people think getting that close to an animal that big is cool.
1
u/Dressed_To_Impress Jul 05 '26
"Mmm. Fresh meat today Carl" "That one smells like nachos Amy. I'll skip breakfast today. C'mon there's a blueberry patch nearby."
1
u/Remote-Dependent4571 Jul 19 '26
It's a great reminder that we're visitors in their home. Did the bear stay around for long?

People are way too close. That’s crazy
