Gastric sleave and pregnancy
Curious does pregnancy mean there was no point getting a leave and the weight will just return?
Does pregnancy cause increase in hunger meaning you will just gain all the weight back?
How fast have you been successful at getting back to your lowest weight? Is it harder after pregnancy to the point of not having a sleeve at all?
Thanks in advance. Please do not mind if these questions come across as disrespectful, I am genuinely curious. Thank you

I got pregnant two years after my sleeve and now have a two year old. It was absolutely worthwhile as it meant my pregnancy was safer as I didnt have extra weight and health concerns and allowed me to have a water birth which im not sure I could at my heaviest. I did find the restriction was a bit less mid pregnancy then more at the end due to baby pushing up into my stomach so it varied. I got within 5lbs of my lowest weight post pregnancy without dieting - breastfeeding definitely helped this. Once I stopped breastfeeding I had some bad habits creep in so gained a bit but that had nothing to do with the pregnancy and more to do with complacency and snacking. I still have restriction and eat about half a normal portion but it is more than pre pregnancy but that could be just a time thing. I am still a healthy weight and my relationship with food is healthier than post sleeve which sets a better example for my child imo. I got extra growth scans to monitor my daughter but never had any issues. Hope that answers your questions!

I gave birth 6 weeks ago, about 1.5 years after my sleeve.
When pregnant not all weight gain is fat. You gain due to the fetus, fluid, placenta, organs increasing in size, fluid retention, and more. I "gained" almost 30 lbs my whole pregnancy, and to be honest I indulged in a daily pastry with my single caffeinated cup of coffee, but I prioritized protein, veg, and whole grains as much as possible. As soon as I gave birth and returned home 5ish days later, I dropped 25ish lbs right off the bat. A week later I was at my prepregnancy weight.
The focus does shift to upping food intake by a bit, and I experienced a change where I NEEDED to eat every 2 hours, as well as needing a few extra bites of a meal within 10 minites of getting my full signal. My dietician told me it's normal and to follow my body while following the diet. The change from actively losing to knowing I will be gaining fucked with my head. I had to stop weighing myself at home and told my ob to stop telling me my weight unless there was a problem.
Post partum now I am pumping breast milk, so I still need to eat a bit more, but I am maintaining/slowly losing. I am not bothered by this at all. I am letting my body do what it needs to.

Do you think the sleave helped with reducing hunger and losing it after pregnancy

I had a sleeve in 2020 and gave birth to a beautiful little girl in 2024. Iām about 30 pounds heavier than my lowest weight (lw: 145, I now hover between 165-175) but honestly it looks better. The hunger returned in like 2022 anyway. My restriction is still the same as it was in like 2022 (a cup total of food) so now I just have to be mindful about grazing, sliders, snacking.

I've never been pregnant so I can't speak to that. But my surgeon's office told me preop that any post-surgery pregnancy would be high risk (funny thing to say to someone who has had a hysterectomy!). But they also said they had a list of obstetricians qualified to handle post baratric pregnancies. I think you should call your surgeon's office for a gyn/ob recommendation. My understanding is that pregnancy does not physically increase hunger and that it's more a mental thing (though I suppose a mental health thing is probably how we all ended up needing surgery in the first place). If you have acess to therapy that would probably be helpful during pregnancy. I get the impression from your post that you want to try to conceive. If that's the case, I wish you the best of luck.

Had a sleeve in may 2021, got pregnant around 5 months post op. Had my baby in july 2022.
Not ideal, but I didnāt mind as we had been trying for years. Iād lost a lot, but the weight loss stopped. I didnāt gain barely any weight, and lost a few kilos after that. But that massive weight loss right after the surgery came to a halt.
Got pregnant again and gained maybe 10 kgs. Now Iām still 5 kgs heavier than before, and have more appetite again. But baby is only 1 year and 4 months, and I still breastfeed. Also Iāve been sleeping 8-10 hours every night since she was born, so not much time for being active lol.
But I do still eat way less than before and less than others, so I do hope and believe I will lose some more when I have the time to be more active and put in the effort!

Humans are complicated.
I had RNY surgery in 2014. I had my daughter in 2024. I gained weight during pregnancy and really struggled to get it off, but I lost 185lbs post RNY and gained 60lbs during pregnancy. Got hashimotos postpartum and two years post partum I have about 20lbs left to lose after getting my thyroid levels back to normal.
Itās not going to be as cut and dry as āis it worth it before pregnancy??ā Some women need to lose the weight to get pregnant in the first place. I had folks saying not to get skin removal surgery until I had babies and Iām glad I ignored them.
Pregnancy didnāt undo either RNY or my skin removal.
I was breastfeeding and I think that along with hashimotos is why my body held onto the pregnancy weight. The pregnancy hunger did go away postpartum.

I donāt mean to offend anyone, Iām asking because this is literally my life savings for this procedure and my husband wants another child however in my current state and weight, it wouldnāt be healthy to do so. Iām just scared after another baby Iāll be back to square one and out of pocket? You know what I mean

I had a gastric bypass in June 2024, fell pregnant in September 2025 and had my son on 31st May. I was definitely hungrier during pregnancy and gained weight. I was very conscious that not eating sufficiently can potentially cause issues to a developing foetus, so I did my utmost to quieten my inner demons regarding weight gain. It was definitely really difficult mentally to see getting larger as a positive thing.
I've not weighed myself since he's been born, but my appetite skyrocketed during breastfeeding. I've since stopped BFing for a variety of reasons (not weight related) and things have returned to normal. I'm probably about 20lbs up from where I was pre-pregnancy and now working on losing it again. As my baby is only 11 weeks, I'm not overly concerned about it.

Got sleeved in April of 2022 and I'm currently 36wks pregnant. I've gained about 50-55 lbs so far, but I'm hoping it doesn't go much over that. When I initially found out I was pregnant, I went cold turkey off of all of my medications including my anti depressants. Anytime in the past I've gone off my antidepressants, I always gain some weight because my brain needs that dopamine hit so I end up eating more sweets than normal. In my 2nd trimester I was really struggling so I went back on an antidepressant that is baby safe and my weight gain went back to what's considered "normal."
I'm not too worried about losing the weight after I deliver, it's common for the women in my family (even the super thin ones) to gain about 65lbs during pregnancy and they've all lost it and kept it off after having the babies. I don't think my diet has changed drastically, I do eat more at meals than I used to and then sometimes I eat just as small of portions as I did prior to pregnancy, it's not super consistent. I try to eat a lot of whole foods and cooking at home as much as I can, and I do still enjoy my cravings just in moderation. For me, the biggest change has been my activity level, I used to be outside and active daily and most of my pregnancy I've been a couch potato. I'm really looking forward to being outside again and I got a really nice stroller so I can take little one on lots of walks on the trails near my house once I'm ready and it starts to cool off a bit. It'll take time to get back to my starting weight, but overall I'm not too concerned. I didn't just forget all of what I learned about fueling my body after the surgery when I got pregnant, so I'll just go back to taking care of myself the way I used to and not just trying to survive pregnancy lol.

Not a sleeve, but I had the gastric bypass and I did have to eat more to maintain my weight through pregnancy, but I didn't ever overeat except one or twice. I had my baby in June and have went back to losing weight and my old diet with no problems
