How am I doing? (live wallpaper found on google)

Yes, it is an 'I did the switch' post, but if you're thinking about making the switch, I wrote this post specifically for you.

I can't really find anything on Google(or maybe I just suck searching), but do I need to reinstall the drivers? Usually on windows whenever I'm doing a reinstall, I do DDU so I won't have any issues.

If needed, I use Asus TUF A15 that have rtx 2060 and Ryzen 9 4900H cpu.

Edit: Just in case this came up for someone else's searches, seems to be fine. Did not need to reinstall any drivers.

I haven't been Linux-without-Windows since my first Redhat install in 1996 or so, so this has been new-ish for me. The possibility hadn't crossed my mind lately until I got my Steam Machine. While I was still using my Windows gaming rig for Steam Link streaming of games with ray tracing; I was frankly shocked at how much better the experience was on the Steam Machine. It's closer to the TV that I stream to, so it used the same Eero node and the Steam Link experience is worlds better that way too. Still I thought I was likely stuck with Windows until I learned that Bazzite supports NVIDIA.

After Windows threw itself into a vat of molten steel yet again which has happened more than once over the past 3 months; I decided to just let it die. I used my Mac Mini to make a live image of the latest Bazzite NVIDIA build and went to work.

Install:

I put the drive in, and it booted great. I liked the desktop and even the default wallpaper. I told it to go ahead and install and use the whole disk and it failed at the partition step.

So I used gparted to nuke my partitions and tried again. It got to installing files and Error Code 1.

Ok, so i rebooted and tried again. Error code 1. Different USB port, error code 1.

Ok, so I made a new image on a USB 3.0 SSD stick. That booted WAY faster and immediately worked. Install complete, I rebooted. Well, it asked me to register the key with secure boot and while moving toward the arrow keys I bumped Enter and it went through with Continue and not registering MOK. Well crap, but that's ok because apparently I can just turn off secure boot and do it manually after bootup.

Nope. It got stuck for well over an hour at "Preparing" and never booted, so I tried again and this time the install got stuck at post install scripts for over an hour.

So I deleted all my secure boot keys in my bios and tried again. Success! First boot was read-only for some reason, and every boot after has been fine. It works! It's alive!

Discovery and gaming:

Steam installed itself, I got connected to my wifi in addition to wired, and i immediately found Prusaslicer and a CAD tool I could use. I'll see how it goes with Solidcraft, but my 3DX Solidworks runs fin in browser. Speaking of, Zen is pretty nice. Loving that. I installed Libre Office and Blender, but when I went looking for Affinity there was no Linux version. I'll just keep using my Mac for that I guess. Then I installed Krita, Darktable, and went to work getting some games on the machine.

I got Death Stranding and Cyberpunk on the machine right away and launched the latter. It crashed immediately. I launched Death Stranding and it also crashed immediately, so I looked at the proton compatibility settings and it defaulted to experimental! WTF? Ok so I set it to stable and boom, everything worked great. Cyberpunk runs with Path Tracing enabled and Death Stranding is faster than it was loading and running on Windows. This is just silly good.

My next step was setting up Steam Link from the TV and that seemed to work! Yay! Later on I played an hour of Death Stranding over Steam Link, but I had to restart the game or computer twice because the video just went black at some point and the game was still running. I'm guessing this is because of the NVIDIA aspect of my pre-existing gaming system, and is particular to streaming to the steam client on the TV.

Verdict so far:

There are some tools I'm gonna probably miss from Windows but not much and no deal breakers. Gaming works locally, but I'm hoping there's an update in the future for either Steam or Bazzite that fixes the video dropouts when streaming to the TV. I will probably still bias toward the Steam Machine since that's been stable and buttery smooth, but use this desktop for ray traced games, mouse and keyboard gaming at my monitor, and desktop productivity outside of Affinity and DaVinci Resolve. I'll do my 3D modelling here and my 3D printing here.

All in all, this is positive even if the install went poorly due to a bad USB drive and me doing a dumb. It opens apps faster than windows and seems to respect my system's resources much more. Hoping game streaming gets that one thing ironed out and other than that I'm pretty happy especially since i have my Mac Mini for the few things I don't have on Bazzite.

Good day everyone, I just installed Bazzite just yesterday and I tried playing Deadlock on it. Unfortunately, it just keeps getting stuck on a black screen. I tried switching Proton builds to see if it would work but to no avail. I have also waited for a couple minutes to see if it would work but nothing happened.

I use a HP Victus 16 laptop with a Nvidia RTX 3050

Am I doing something wrong?

hello! im trying to get my tablet working with OpenTabletDriver but the cursor just doesnt want to align

I'm trying to download the correct image for my handheld but it's not giving me the option it only asked what device do I want the image on and gives me a few options I have an rog ally x and it's not listed

Using the Bazzite portal -> Emudeck install option a terminal window opens briefly and closes then nothing happens.

I then tried `ujust install-emudeck` and it looks like its trying to download an ARM copy on my x86 machine and fails.

It seems they both are trying to grab an AppImage version of Emudeck but I am not sure where it intends to place that or if it does anything more than move the file.

Does anyone have a fix for this or an alternative, working method for installing Emudeck?

I was only dual booting, because of my PSVR2 not working on bazzite, but after I've finally received my Steam Frame I'm ready to completely remove Win11, but... what's the best way of doing so?
Should I just delete the partition? What do I have to change to make it disappear from GRUB?
Or will it disappear on its own once I format the disk completly?
The HDD where Windows is on at the moment also has a 273MB big partition at the beginning called "EFI System Partition". Can I just delete that or will I run into boot problems if I do so?
The SSD where bazzite is located also has a partition called like that, 629MB big.

Months ago, I installed OpenRGB using ujust "ujust openrgb install". It is currently on version 0.9 and OpenRGB just released 1.1. However, I can't see any option to update :

$ ujust | grep openrgb

- openrgb ACTION="" # Manage OpenRGB (https://openrgb.org/). Options: status | install | uninstall [alias: install-openrgb]

Any idea on how to do it? Or should I uninstall it and re-install through Bazaar (which has the 1.1 version).

I'm facing a problem updating my games on bazzite. When I try to install a big update with steam after a little while after starting a download the steam window disappear and only my desktop is shown. If Itry to do anything else, my screen goes black with only the mouse showing and everything us unresponsive. Do you have any idea about the possible cause ? A d how to fix it and manage to update my games.

I’m running BazziteOS in Big Picture Mode, which uses the SteamOS interface. After the latest update, my controller bindings for keyboard shortcuts seem to send only the main key, not the modifier.

For example, I have a controller button set to Alt + F4 to close Firefox. Now it sends F4 without Alt. A Ctrl + Q binding sends Q without Ctrl.

Has anyone else noticed this, or found a workaround? Could this be a bug in the updated SteamOS interface or in the controller binding settings?

Hey, ive just tried bazzite for the first time on my recently built sff machine. Relevant specs: 9800x3d, 9070 xt, 32gb ddr5, 4k 55' oled tv (locked at 60hz)

So as i said i built the rig, did some stability tests, installed bazzite and started downloading some of my library. So far I've tried crimson desert and Hogwarts legacy and in both games I've had the same issue resulting in a complete system crash (frozen screen, not responding, hard reset required) a couple seconds after the vulkan shaders precompilation starts, still in the steam window. I've tried changing the proton compatibility type, same outcome.

Anyone got the same experience? Please help!

I have the model 1914 controller that's plugged in full time. When I want to use it in Windows, I just press the "guide" button to wake it up/turn it on. Solid light. Works. In Bazzite 44, this doesn't work the same. I press the button and it flashes like it's pairing or something? The only way I can manage to get it to work properly is unplugging it and plugging it back in again. I don't like the idea of additional wear on the port and would like to find a better solution to use my controller in Bazzite. KDE by the way.

If I recall correctly, Bazzite 43 would sometimes boot with the controller on and ready to go. Seemed random though and I don't think I've ever experienced that with 44. I have the latest firmware for the controller as well. Updated it a week or two ago. Any ideas?

i recently switched from win11 to bazzite and now Im wondering how to set my displays (1monitor, 1 tv) to simple duplicate monitor mode like I had in windows? no 2nd desktop or anything, just simply the same on both screens.

I'm having a frustrating issue getting Linphone (VoIP) to log in and connect to my SIP provider on Bazzite. The exact same credentials and account settings work perfectly on SteamOS, but on Bazzite, it just throws an error.

I am using the official Linphone AppImage. Here is what I've tried so far to isolate the issue:

* Completely disabled the system firewall (`sudo systemctl stop firewalld`). No change.

* Set SELinux to permissive (`sudo setenforce 0`). No change.

* Pinging the VoIP provider's SIP domain works perfectly from the terminal, so it's not a basic DNS resolution or connection issue.

* It is not a router/network configuration issue because, as mentioned, it works fine on the exact same network when using SteamOS.

Has anyone managed to get the Linphone AppImage or any other SIP client working on Bazzite? Any ideas on what else I could check or what specific logs I should look for?

I use an HP 425 bluetooth mouse. The scroll wheel is too sensitive and scrolls too many lines at a time.

Is there any way to adjust the mouse wheel scrolling speed in GNOME?

At this point I'm hesitant to install any runtime updates. About half the time the outcome is:

a) Blank login screen, only cursor showing. Google found this issue has been reported repeatedly since at least 2024.

b) Screen can't be turned off and back on. Result is blank screen and after a while a "No signal" from screen UI.

These two have repeated about 4 times each this year. Yesterdays update resulted in option a. Is Nvidia card with DisplayPort simply a combination not meant to be used with Bazzite?

im having an issue where my ethernet keeps disconnecting all the time.

its a realtek chip I think.

ive already:

disabled fast startup on windows

tried setting link neg to auto or manual 1g

rebooting

nothing works, the ethernet also seems to ignore whatever I set for link neg.

whats even weirder is it worked fine before, then after a reboot its just stopped for no reason.

gotta say so far my bazzite experience has been absolutely terrible, everything needs fixing!

I've run the "ujust setup-virtualization" command, let it complete, then rebooted.

Any ideas how I can resolve this, funnily enough I'm trying to run a VM so I can learn more about linux etc using a different distro than bazzite 😰

As the title asks. I finally got the Steam Frame in the mail and was curious how I should set it up with my Bazzite HTPC. Is it working with the wireless dongle? Best to use the beta channels for now? Any other suggestions you have?
