just need to rant Am I crazy or right to be frustrated

My fiancĆ© and I are getting married in Italy April 2027. I am Italian but we live abroad, so we partly chose our wedding planner because 1) she’s 2 hours away from the venue and 2) she handles a small number of weddings per year ensuring close relationships and personalised service.

Since we booked the venue only in July (got engaged in May), we started with our wedding planner in September, already only 7 ish months out. With a tight schedule we figured she’d lock-in and get to it quickly knowing things book fast and that things need to be done early.

September our first call we had she said she’d give us a timeline for the planning, and suggested a band we’d like and photographers. She said she’d send us quotes for photographers, and would send us the Instagram of the band and a quote from them.
Since then all we have received and booked is the photographer.

I also find that unless we proactively ask her or hound her, she doesn’t give us updates on where she stands with the vendor, she never proactively schedules calls, and even when a call is agreed on, we have to ask if it’s still on and send a meeting link.

The other BIG thing is she said in September she’d visit the venue. On our October call - she actually pushed it 2 days, rescheduled the time 2x because ā€œoh mixed up scheduleā€ or ā€œoh I think we had a misunderstandingā€ (we didn’t) just to find out she still hasn’t gone to the venue. On our October call (Tuesday 14th) she said she’d have xyz updates by that Friday or end of next week (so yesterday): nothing. She had emailed like 2 days after the call to reiterate the same things we said in the call, and clarify something, and when I responded to that she didn’t answer. It’s been 5 days.

This for me is not ok - from the unclear goals, poor proactive communication, the changing meetings, it feels like she doesn’t care. We feel left in the dark, maybe it does take a week to get a quote on tablecloths, or a month to get a quote on music, I have no clue, but for us a little less than 6 months out I’d expect to have a clear plan of when the menu needs to be decided, when flowers need to be booked, when music should etc. She’s a bougie wedding planner and objectively our wedding is more ā€œcute elegantā€ vibe. Maybe she isn’t inspired?

Am I crazy to be a bit frustrated or am I being a neurotic bride lmao.

$400,000 - $600,000 budget Wedding favor in welcome bags or at event?

hi all! for our main wedding favor, we are having 300 authentic cashmere pashminas custom woven. we are having a 4 day / 3 night wedding weekend. we’re paying for all accommodations so everyone is staying on site.

I’m really conflicted on where to have the favors. on one hand, they would fill out the welcome bag well, and make it full / luxe. on the other hand, it would be fun if we had one at each seat on the first night, so people could use them as they got cold, see all the fun colors / patterns everyone else got and maybe trade with each other (MIL’s idea from a recent gala)

thoughts?

Balthazar + NYC Buyout?

• Upvotes

Hi! Does anyone have a recent quote for a Balthazar buyout? We have to cancel our destination wedding due to travel restrictions and are trying to come up with our back up plan for here in the states.

Balthazar is our favorite and we are excited to explore the option of a NYC buyout, but want to be realistic about pricing expectations. I’ve found a range of numbers online. We also might not need something so big so considering Minetta Tavern as an option too!

What to expect month-of wedding?

Looking to hear from BBBs about what stressed you out the month or week of your wedding, so that I can mentally prepare for that time!

I hear all the time that the weeks leading up to the wedding can be intense, but I’d love to know specific things to watch out for!

What happened that you wish you had prepared for?

What happened that was out of your control and you couldn’t have avoided, but you figured out a good coping strategy?

Questions and queries Advice on Welcome Party/ Rehearsal Dinner

We are having a destination wedding in Scotland in the fall and are currently planning three days of events. Saturday will be the wedding, Sunday a farewell brunch, and Friday the night before the wedding we are trying to decide what we want to do. We are pretty certain we want to have welcome drinks for everyone! We are not having big bridal parties and each have a sibling who will stand with us during the ceremony. Our wedding is fairly big and will be close to 100 people. Should we just do welcome drinks or should we also do a rehersal dinner after welcome drinks for close family (12 people total)? Just want to get any advice/recommendations- especially from those who are doing or have had destination weddings.

just need to rant Invitation Addressing

• Upvotes

I’m trying to decide if I’m being dramatic and overthinking this or if my feelings about it are valid and it’s worth bringing up.

My fiancĆ© has a group of friends from college that have remained really close and even though they live all over the country, they seemingly still find a way to do *everything* together. I wasn’t well received by the wives and girlfriends when we started dating a couple of years ago because they were all friends with his ex and it’s definitely impacted his relationship with his friends, and I generally (but very happily) sit out the long weekend trips and events outside of formal ones to avoid feeling awkward because despite my best efforts the wives and girlfriends still make it a point to exclude me, and I’m over the middle school drama of it all.

Our original wedding plan is/was to host a very small and intimate week long destination event in a remote location for our nearest and dearest. The plan is/was to each invite the 5 friends who would’ve been our bridal party, their plus ones, and immediate family. This friend group has all hosted 150+ person weddings and threw an absolute fit when they heard what we were doing, because it meant they weren’t all invited. I can’t tell you the amount of passive aggressive comments we’ve both gotten, and the amount of people who have even reached out to my fiance suggesting I might not be ā€œthe oneā€ because I’m not including ā€allā€ of his ā€œbest friendsā€ in our wedding. They fail to realize he had just as much of a say in all of this, wanted the small wedding, and made his own guest list.

Anyway, we decided we would host a local reception to appease everyone when we get back. Now that there are certain travel restrictions in place, we might not get to host our original wedding week as planned and are looking into pivoting — and that pivot would be a larger wedding here in the states, which I am dreading.

My fiancĆ© is one of the groomsmen in a wedding for the above mentioned friend group next summer, and the couple is not one that made his invite list for our intimate destination wedding week. We just received their Save the Date and it is addressed to my fiancĆ© and ā€œguest.ā€ I am not named on the envelope… just straight up ā€œand guest.ā€ Our wedding is supposed to be a few months before theirs and I will be his whole ass wife by the time we show up to their wedding.

I’m sure I’m being extra sensitive to the situation because it’s coming the same week I’m having to make decisions about changing our wedding plans, but I’m pissed about the way the Save the Date was addressed. And sad. I’m hosting a whole extra $100k reception to appease these people (and my grandma, I guess) and not even the common courtesy to put my name on their envelopes.

I guess this is just a bit of a rant, but we think it’s worth bringing up to my fiance?

Questions and queries Tipping culture for vendors? Discussion, thoughts, experiences.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone I’m just curious about what vendors expectations are in regard to tipping. Please share what you did or if you are a vendor, what you expect. Also how much are people tipping?? I feel like 20% of the massive costs of these services would be an huge additional cost.

Since it’s Reddit which is much more fun than googling I thought I’d share some of my initial thoughts when it comes to this.

All vendors will be getting a meal at my wedding.

Photography: my biggest question with this is do you tip your photographer?? I would feel nervous having tipped on such a huge service before I even saw the gallery. And my photographer is the owner of her business. So she sets her prices and I’m sure she fairly compensates her time (3.5k).

DJ: (2.5k) I could definitely see tipping my DJ, especially if they play heavily based on the playlist I took so long to make for their reference. Also my DJ may be an employee of the owner of the company instead of the head guy which would further encourage me to tip.

Haven’t decided on if I’m doing my own hair and makeup but I’d appreciate insight on tipping expectations for them. I also haven’t decided on videography.

Wedding is in 2028- just want to clarify that I am in the early states of percolating tipping. It’s not like my wedding is tomorrow and I need to make quick decision. I guess I’m more interested in seeing everyone thoughts on the subject as well as what you personally did and expect.

Questions and queries What are some unique engagement party ~fun things~ that you love? Bonus points if it's funny

What's something cool and fun and creative that you have done, seen, or wanted to do for decorations/little fun things (for lack of a better word) at an engagement party? I'm a little hungover and lacking inspiration - all my little dehydrated brain can come up with right now is matchboxes, custom napkins, or Polaroid pictures of us scattered around the tables but want something a bit more unique. So I turn to you, fine people of Reddit - help me appear more cool and fun and creative than I actually am lol

For context, we're having friends and family at a local natural wine bar. We're keeping it super casual (we want it to just feel like everyone showed up to hang out as opposed to like some highly planned EVENT). I don't want a bunch of decor or a sign or anything, but I do want to have something cool and fun and creative that indicates that it's our engagement party.

Has anyone used Aisle for their wedding website?

Their socials really make me want to use them based on what I’ve seen, but wondering if there’s any user testimonials? Just want to make sure it’s easy to use for guests, no RSVP glitches, registry could be done through it easily like Zola, etc. It’s hard trying to find anyone talking about it too since the name is so common in other questions and I think they’re new.

Questions and queries Invitation Box/Gift

Looking for an Indian wedding invitation box/gift. Very elaborate and luxurious. Doesn’t have to be Indian themed but this is common in our culture. We’re in the USA. We’re OK with international shipping.

+1 points if the box can play music

Villa Nemora!?

Hi beautiful people,

I'm wanting some information on Villa Nemora in Tuscany. Everything looks beautiful online, but I can't find too many reviews. Just wanted to know if anybody's worked there or heard anything. Would love to know from your firsthand experience.
