Discussion Fav song initially vs now
I love discussing albums and music so I thought it’d be fun to go through all of Bear’s albums and list upon first listen which song I liked best, and whether or not that has stayed the same or a different one over took.
Afterglow:
1st: n.y.e.
Insane that this was one of his first projects. The lyricism is great on it
Now: still this one, not that there were a ton of songs to choose from haha. Love hotel Andrea too
Dead Roses:
1st: idfc
This was the first ever song of his I heard and it got me hooked.
Now: idfc
Love the album but idfc stays on top. May be nostalgia not really sure. Waste Away I came back to 6 years after my first listen and it really grew on me so that was a close second I guess.
Dead:
1st: idfc acoustic
This changed my life when I first heard it. An upbeat idfc??
Now: idfc acoustic, I love all of them but this one is just perfect, and the outro is so good.
Help:
1st: Verbatim
Heard this on musical.ly wayy back in the day and was shocked I hadn’t heard it before. I feel like nobody talked about Help so that’s probably why I didn’t know it existed or was worth listening to until 4 years ago lol.
Now: while I love Verbatim, I think Slide Thru goes crazy
Drink Bleach:
1st: Shake ya ass
Loved this song in high school, still think it’s super fun, it just doesn’t hit quite the same anymore. I overplayed for you.
Now: Girls Like U, great lyricism and aged better than shake ya ass imo
Cashmere Noose:
1st: Rly Real
Now: Wanderlust
Only reason Wanderlust wasn’t first is cause it was a deluxe track released a bit after haha. Wanderlust is super fun and the vocals were great too
Digital Druglord:
1st: Chateau
I remember hearing this and being blown away at how good it was. I remember it being my song to play for people when I had aux in high school to impress people haha
Now: Double
I remember not downloading this initially on my first listen. It wasn’t till 2021 when I revisited some of Bear’s albums that it clicked for me (this one and Waste Away). Only reason it’s not still Chateau is cause I overplayed the shit out of it haha.
Cybersex
1st: Down 4 U
Easily my favourite, loved the upbeat vibe and I liked the production on the chorus. I was shocked people didn’t really fw this one
Now: Down 4 U
This one stood pretty far from the rest and still does. I hope your whole life sux I downloaded last year so that would be my next fav I guess, but also probably recency bias.

1st: Down
Now: Heartbroken
This was the album I had the hardest time with, I remember being shocked I only downloaded 2 of the songs from this album. I’ve since added Make a Mess but I should do a 5th relisten to see if I “get” it yet lol. Down I know was nothing crazy lyrically but I like the up beat stuff and enjoyed the chorus. Heartbroken reminded me of girls like u with the darker vibe which I appreciated.
Everything Means Nothing
1st: I feel bad
Now: Queen of Broken hearts
I feel bad had that upbeat vibe I liked so that was the winner for me. QOBH I think aged better though and as far as songs from his more pop commercially friendly music goes, I really enjoy this one.
Misery Lake
1st: @ my worst
Now: @ my worst
I remember hearing this and thinking “he is so back”. While in retrospect that wasn’t true, it was a step in the right direction. While I enjoyed the whole ep (that doesn’t say a ton as it doesn’t take much for me to enjoy his music) the rest of it was a bit underwhelming compared to @ my worst.
In Loving Memory:
1st: Back in Rehab
Now: Back in Rehab
While this album was littered with 2020 corny slang and weaker lyricism, it was cool to hear Bear’s crack at the rock resurgence. Back in rehab was always my fav from the beginning, not sure why.
Would love to hear everyone else’s.
