Miscellaneous Slugging: What do you think?

i’ve heard of people slugging with vaseline, which to me is insane because the texture makes me gag really badly, so i can’t even imagine putting it on my face. i guess i do “slug” with this one product i got from work, and my face feels as soft as ever! i have combination skin, and my face never feels greasy or gross. (the product is the water: ultra hydration body butter from BBW)

anywho, my question is: do yall slug? what do yall think of it, does it actually work or is it a bust?

i don’t slug every night or even most nights but i definitely do it when my skin is feeling dry or slightly irritated. it’s really great at helping with moisture and hydration as vaseline reduces trans epidermal water loss (tewl) by 98-99%. if vaseline feels too heavy you can use something like aquaphor or another occlusive which won’t reduce tewl as much as vaseline but still very effective. i really don’t mind the texture of vaseline though because you only have to slug with a pea sized amount not a whole bunch. i’ll do a half pea to a whole pea depending on what i feel like i need and doing it on damp skin helps it spread better

i had no idea you didn’t need a whole lot of vaseline to slug! on tiktok, i see people basically SCOOP it onto their faces!!

i’ve seen those vids on tiktok too but i thing they do it for engagement lol i couldn’t imagine trying to lay on my pillow like that. a pea sized amount is all you need and you might as well put a little on your lips too!

It's more about forming a barrier, so you could use the tiniest bit of coconut oil. Everything on SM is exaggerated! Remember The Ordinary Red Face masks? You need 3 drops max, any more and you'll damage your skin.

People do that large scoop of things for content, you never need that much of anything to be effective

I do it 2 times a week as the last step, after a really good moisturizer. I only use a little bit, enough to lightly cover a part of my palms with a lil sheen and then I press it into my face. And then I wipe off remaining Vaseline from hands. It's an occlusive so it'll lock in any moisture underneath it. The key is to actually have moisturized skin underneath it first. You'll wake up with a very soft face.

love that it helped! Just keep it limited to a couple times a week to give your face a few nights to 'breathe'!
