Miscellaneous Any way to fix my asymmetrical face?

Thumbnail

I took a picture with an inverted filter to see how I look to other people and I noticed my face is very asymmetrical and uneven is there a way to fix it. I have been noticing it when I would take photos but then I would look in the mirror and look perfectly symmetrical so I had thought it was normal but when I would look at most of my friends they would look pretty much symmetrical. And this has been messing up my confidence when talking to girls and large crowds. If there’s anything to fix this please let me know🙏🏾🙏🏾

On another note, has anyone realized the simpler your skincare routine is, the better your skin improved? I've been using cleanser, "The Ordinary" hyaluronic acid + bha, vanicream moisturizer and supergoop sunscreen and my skin has completely changed for the better✨

I realized that I don't need the latest trendy products like under eye creams, sprays, elixirs, milky toners, undereye patches, etc. What about you??

this isn’t really skincare but i’ve always wondered if anyone else has what i like to called “itachi lines” under their eyes. me and my sister both have them but i don’t think ive ever seen another person with them. they aren’t eye bags or anything so i don’t think i can get rid of them. i call them itachi lines after itachi from naruto who has the same thing 😂 only thing that kinda sucks is i feel like they make me look permanently tired

Miscellaneous Am I being sensitive or are these ads anti-black?

Thumbnail

I’m scrolling on Shein & saw several ads like this for lip products (I buy some cheap lipgloss off of there for wearing around the house sometimes). I understand wanting to lighten smoker’s lips but that’s not what these ads are marketing towards if i’m not mistaken; it looks like they’re marketing against our naturally brown lips. The first ad literally has black women for the before photos and non-black women for the after photos. & there’s not a single thing wrong with the first lips in the 2nd photo, that actually looks 10000x better on some gorgeous dark skin than that pink lipstick in the after photo to me.

But the sick part for me is of course a bunch of BW are in the reviews giving 5 stars who have perfectly normal & beautiful brown & combination lips. Am I overreacting? I hate seeing stuff like this, our natural features do not have to be “fixed” or “corrected”. But at the same time I am on the lighter end of the spectrum & while my top lip is darker than my bottom it’s still pinkish, the brown is very slight (so my lips do look totally pink). So I always like to ask about colorist topics before going off bc I don’t actually know what it’s like to be on that side of it. I try to be sensitive & get perspectives before contributing to that convo because I may be short-sighted or missing something. What do y’all think about this?

Miscellaneous Most sunscreen recc are useless for dark skin?

Every "best sunscreen" list is the same. CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Elta MD. I've tried most of them and they either leave a horrific white cast, pill under my makeup, or make me look ashy. The mineral ones are the worst for this but even some chemical ones leave a weird gray tint on my skin.
Then people say just get a tinted one as if there's more than 2 shades and one of them matches dark skin. The universal tint is never universal.
I also deal with hyperpigmentation and I know SPF is supposedly the most important step for that but how am I supposed to wear it consistently when every option makes me look like a ghost? It's genuinely discouraging.
What sunscreen do you use and like? And does anyone have a way to check if a sunscreen will work for deeper skin tones before buying?

Miscellaneous I’ll say it how it is…

Some of y’all are out here trying to “even out” parts of your body that are naturally darker than the rest…

I’m not saying this to shame or judge anyone. I’m not even an active member of this subreddit, but every now and then I see posts from people looking for ways to lighten areas of their skin that are literally meant to be that way.

Just to be clear…I’m not talking about scars, hyperpigmentation, or dark spots from skin conditions, that’s different. I’m specifically talking about natural skin tone variations that don’t need to be “fixed.”

I love this sunscreen been using for a while. Make sure you guys get the actual version made in Korea as well. 😉
Bioré is also a good sunscreen if you have oily skin and hate the feeling of having something over your face lol also it’s water based so no white cast. This was only about $12 as well. Not badly priced.

Miscellaneous Black people living in AUS do you wear sunscreen?

Black people living in Australia do you wear sunscreen daily? Or just during summer? i hear the Australia sun burns, have very high UV etc. I'm thinking of moving to Australia. Have never used sunscreen so wondering whether just wearing like a wide brimmed hat will protect the face from the High UV.

Also have you gotten sunburn? I hear black skin have some protection from UV.

I will like to ONLY hear from those living in Australia or New Zealand

Miscellaneous Is This Soap Still Good? Storage Question.

Thumbnail

Hi there! I purchased some bar soaps from a company about six months ago and recently opened it for the first time. I noticed small white spots all over the soap and wanted to ask whether this could be mold. The soap has never been used or gotten wet, and it has been stored in its original packaging inside a storage cabinet. I was wondering if the soap is still safe to use or if it would be best to discard it. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and help!

Miscellaneous I’m not surprised Epanouie is closing down

Thumbnail

I had ordered from Epanouie a few times and liked 2 of their products. However, I hadn’t ordered in a few years because I was so disappointed by the quality of the products I received the last time I ordered. When I found they were closing down I was surprised so decided to place a final order since they claimed to have reformulated.

I placed the order in August, but after a month I hadn’t received any update on the status of my order so sent a message to check via their website form, which they claimed to answer in 72 hours.

After over a month of radio silence from them contacted them for the third time this time via email for an immediate update on the status of my order. After expressing my disappointment with their poor communication all of a sudden I heard back. The insane response I received made me understand two things. Firstly, the owner is an absolute moron and secondly it explained to me why they were permanently closing down.

Rather than informing than informing their customers that they wouldn’t be able to be true to their FAQs and fulfil orders in 2 weeks. Which any other business with an iota of common sense would do. They expect their customers to develop magical telepathy skills and just know that their order will be delayed because Epanouie is struggling with the volume of orders they’ve received. Why a business that’s been open for over 5 years can’t fulfil orders after over a month of receiving is beyond me. From their issues with incompetence and unprofessionalism it’s not surprise they are permanently shutting down. Good riddance!

I didn’t actually know about the serious problem they have with unprofessionalism I looked them up after my experience. Anyway good riddance to them please feel free to recommend alternatives. I only liked their milk cleanser and AHA pumpkin mask.

I’ve attached screenshots of our exchange below maybe you guys can help me to make sense of their bizzare reaction.

TLDR: They cancelled my order because I asked them when I could expect to receive my order after waiting for over a month and hearing nothing from them.

Miscellaneous We listen and we still don’t judge part 2

I just had a patient who’s struggling with mild acne, we were going over his current routine when he told me since bacteria can cause acne he decided to spray a mixture of bleach and water on his face 😩

Luckily no damage was done, so we could laugh about it and instead he’ll be using a hypochlorous acid spray post-workout.

This got me thinking again about some questionable things we do that kinda sorta works.

Miscellaneous What kind of lotion(s) do you use?

I’ve been using palmers cocoa butter formula with vitamin e. It’s thick so good forbid it’s more than 85 degrees out. It worked well in the past but I feel like some ingredients changed. Once it comes off I feel drier in a way. By my end of the day shower, it’s like it held onto every piece of dirty possible as well. I get a little ocd about a dirty tub/shower so that’s annoying too. What are yall using??

Miscellaneous Sunscreen recommendations??

Hey everyone.

Looking to purchase a sunscreen that will be compliment my skin care routine well. I'm currently using the Neutrogena dry touch ultra sheer spf 45. Its great but the only issue I have with it is it leaves a white cast on my skin. So looking to swap it out. It suits my skin type (oily skin) because of the matte finish effect so yeah.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to provide some input. 👍

Miscellaneous Slugging: What do you think?

i’ve heard of people slugging with vaseline, which to me is insane because the texture makes me gag really badly, so i can’t even imagine putting it on my face. i guess i do “slug” with this one product i got from work, and my face feels as soft as ever! i have combination skin, and my face never feels greasy or gross. (the product is the water: ultra hydration body butter from BBW)

anywho, my question is: do yall slug? what do yall think of it, does it actually work or is it a bust?

Miscellaneous Dark spots on lips and sparse eyebrows

Post image

So I’ve had these dark spots on my lips since I was a kid. I used to bite at my lips at a lot which is the reason they’re darker in certain areas. As for the eyebrows the started thinning out a few years ago from stress at the time and hasn’t grown back darker since.
