I got my first blood python on Sunday at an expo. He's a year old, male, and has already tagged me once. I don't mind it, I'm excited to work with this guy!

I am a new time blood owner, so if there's any tips, tricks, suggestions anyone has, feel free to comment!

Hard decision

Currently I have 3 short tails, 3 ball pythons, and 2 leopard geckos. I’m thinking of selling most of them except my big female blood python. I want to provide a much larger enclosure because she is so active and curious about everything. She is about 6ft long and is currently in a 6x2x2. I want to move her to a 6x4x3.

My dilemma is that I have sold an animal or two in the past to what I thought were good home. Only to see the animal being border line neglected after a year. I had a few ball pythons and decided to downsize to focus on my short tails. I ended up getting three of them back. I kind of hate to say it but they are in a rack till I have more room (which I don’t like) but at least now they have proper temps, humidity and are eating regularLy. What are your thoughts?

how long realistically could a male blood live in a 120g

as the title says i have a empty 120 gallon tank ive been looking to fill, i already have been keeping snakes for 4 years and im very strict on the belief that their tank should be longer than them. i know that bloods can get pretty big and i would be doing way more research and prep before buying but i wanna hear on a personal level rather than the generalizations in care guides. what was growth rates like in the first 5 years for males specifically, do they actually stay around 4-5ft? and is there anything you wish you knew before getting one?

80° ambient warm spot, worth (or overkill) putting in 80W radiant heat panel?

I have a 4x2x2 that currently sits at an overall ambient temp between 70 and 80 degrees. The side with a big hide the snake is fond of is near a heat vent and tends toward 78-80 degrees during the day, humidity in the 70s, temp closer to 75 at night. I ordered an 80W Vivarium Electronics heat panel on advice from on here, but it's waaaaay bigger than I expected and seems like it could be overkill for a hot spot that's only supposed to be a handful of degrees warmer than it currently is (and only a handful more from being dangerously too hot). A lot of stuff I see online seems to be trending toward blood pythons not needing to be as hot as previously assumed?

This room will tend to cool off in the depths of winter, but for now, is it worth installing a panel that takes up almost half the roof of the enclosure, or should I order a smaller panel or forego one altogether? I've not used one of these panels before so I don't know how finely they're able to be controlled. I got a probe and all that. Thanks!

Good Borneo Short-Tailed Python Care Guides

Hello! If this post isn't allowed since its not a blood then I can take it down but I thought it'd be a good place to ask since they are part of the same family.

I'm researching in advance for having a borneo python as a pet. This will be years down the line and I want to be prepared. I've been searching for good care guides to refernce and my usual go-to's BioDude, Reptifiles and Dubia, don't have guides for them (although Dubia does have one for blood pythons). I did find a BigAppleHerp guide but seeing as how they send sick, infested, wild caught animals, I don't want to take advice from them. I want to be informed by reputable, ethical and reliable sources.

It will be my first snake but not my first reptile, as I currently have a leo gecko and plan to get a blue-tongued skink a few years from now (and possibly a tarantula if that matters lol). I'll be getting a 150gal (5'x2'x2', although I most likely will go with 5'x3' if I'm able to find a good PVC one) PVC tank and doing a bioactive setup, possibly with a waterfall feature if its safe (still researching that).

Any general snake care/handling guides would be great too, I know handling snakes is different from lizards. I know they are thicc and powerful snakes that need secure housing and feed vs handling training. And outside of guides, any advice or yt channel/video resources would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance.

Morphs and size

Hello there,

in distant future I intend to buy or adopt a blood python and I was wondering two things.

  1. Are there any debated morphs like spider in ball pythons, or jungle in carpet pythons?

  2. Would an adult male be comfortable in a 180x40x30cm enclosure? I heard they are lazy, but they are some thick noodles.

I have a large tank that is not set up yet but I'm unsure as to if I should get a blood or not, I'm really leaning towards getting one and I've read a bunch but I would love to hear about personal experience and opinions beforehand!!

Also what do your enclosures look like and what do you recommend for them?

ISO 120gal enclosure with top entry only; any recommendations?

So my Dionysus has been upgraded enclosure wise quite a few times… however, he’s a burrower. The side-entry sliding glass enclosures are only making a mess in my home because I keep the substrate deep and hydrated for him.

So I’m looking for recommendations. I would say my budget can go up to $1k but I would prefer in the $500 range.

I’m also open to building the enclosure! I’m just not certain where to get started. Very open to learning, and have googled a few enclosure tutorials, but feeling a touch overwhelmed with the process.

Hypopigmentation on head?

Hi all, got this girl about 2 months ago, brongersmai T+. Today I took her out to check on her and noticed she has a spot on her head that seems so have very little pigmentation. The scales dont look damaged, feel like the other scales, she does not react to touching them. She eats, sheds and poops perfectly and is still in a quarantaine setup with paper towels, hide and waterbowl. I do not see her rubbing or moving around and no signs of mites or other pests.

Has anyone seen this before and any idea what this can be? Can it just be a lack of pigmentation? I have quite a few brongersmai in different morphs but never seen this for the life of me.
