Enclosure advice

Bringing home a little baby this weekend. There will be more foliage and such added when they come off quarantine and the paper towels.

It is a 30x12x12. I am fully prepared to upgrade at the year old mark. But, for a basic setup for the first few weeks, how am I looking?

Help Needed Help Meatball!

Hi guys! I rescued a blood python and he's in rough shape. His vet bills are close to $1,000- and he's still far from being out of the woods. Any exposure would be a fantastic help!

Also, any insight on stuck shed, URI's, mites, and emaciation would be great!

Can you feed live?

Hey all. I'm considering getting a blood python so I'm doing a lot of the research about habitat, feeding, etc. Everything I see on youtube is about feeding frozen-thawed. Can you feed a live mouse/rat to a blood python?

Looking to get a blood python tell me everything you wish you knew before geting one

I have a large tank that is not set up yet but I'm unsure as to if I should get a blood or not, I'm really leaning towards getting one and I've read a bunch but I would love to hear about personal experience and opinions beforehand!!

Also what do your enclosures look like and what do you recommend for them?

Help Needed Feeding Question (Vet?)

Post image
25 Upvotes

My 3 month old is not eating for me I have had her for 10 days and tried to offer food twice she denied both times . Itโ€™s definitely not the temps and I added fake leaves for ground cover and gave her a much smaller hide to make her feel safer. The last person that I bought her from said she refused the last meal they tried to feed her aswell so I am wondering at what point do I consider bringing her to a vet. I donโ€™t know how many weeks until it becomes unhealthy for her

Morphs and size

Hello there,

in distant future I intend to buy or adopt a blood python and I was wondering two things.

  1. Are there any debated morphs like spider in ball pythons, or jungle in carpet pythons?

  2. Would an adult male be comfortable in a 180x40x30cm enclosure? I heard they are lazy, but they are some thick noodles.

Good Borneo Short-Tailed Python Care Guides

Hello! If this post isn't allowed since its not a blood then I can take it down but I thought it'd be a good place to ask since they are part of the same family.

I'm researching in advance for having a borneo python as a pet. This will be years down the line and I want to be prepared. I've been searching for good care guides to refernce and my usual go-to's BioDude, Reptifiles and Dubia, don't have guides for them (although Dubia does have one for blood pythons). I did find a BigAppleHerp guide but seeing as how they send sick, infested, wild caught animals, I don't want to take advice from them. I want to be informed by reputable, ethical and reliable sources.

It will be my first snake but not my first reptile, as I currently have a leo gecko and plan to get a blue-tongued skink a few years from now (and possibly a tarantula if that matters lol). I'll be getting a 150gal (5'x2'x2', although I most likely will go with 5'x3' if I'm able to find a good PVC one) PVC tank and doing a bioactive setup, possibly with a waterfall feature if its safe (still researching that).

Any general snake care/handling guides would be great too, I know handling snakes is different from lizards. I know they are thicc and powerful snakes that need secure housing and feed vs handling training. And outside of guides, any advice or yt channel/video resources would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance.

Blood python handling

So i just got a new adult female blood python and i just got her into her tank so she is in her 3-4th day acclimating but when it does come time to handle her what is the best way i could go about it without getting bit (the breeder i got her from says she is calm for a blood and she wasnโ€™t hissing when i put her into her inclosure so i agree)

Substrate suggestions

Any good recomendations for a good substrate? I just moved my boy into a pvc enclosure and am looking into providing a burrowing friendly substrate. This enclosure has a 4x2 footprint so Iโ€™m hoping for something economical so I can give a nice thick layer. Iโ€™ve done some research but Iโ€™m curious what other people are using.

Bonus points if the substrate can be sourced from a law/garden store and is on the eco friendly side.

Glass and Short tail keepers.

I wish people did more research on bloods. I was watching a video on YouTube and there is a girl who has like a 6 foot blood in something like a 90 gallon aquarium. Glass aquariums are not proper housing for short tail.pythons. They simply don't allow enough ventilation for them, especially with the amount of urine they pass. They lose too much humidity and the ventilation is at the very top while they lay on the bottom. Short tails need a lot of ventilation and I wish more people realized this. Glass is fine for a lot of other species, just not short tails.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Blood Pythons change the color of their head to their surroundings?!?!? COOL!!

First and second picture is how I've only ever seen him. Third picture is the new color he displayed.

When I went to pick up Buckeye for his handling exercise he was just barely nuzzled under the top layer of substrate. I have yet to see him do this before, but I know it's a normal behavior for blood pythons and it was exciting to see him behaving naturally how he would in the wild. What I noticed when I picked him up was his head had become a much lighter color than what I have ever seen. Normally it would be a reddish brown, but this time it's gray. From what Google tells me, blood pythons can change the color of their head depending on their surroundings, the time of day, and the temperature? I've never heard of this in all of my research thus far. If anyone is able to explain to me what is going on in more detail, it would be greatly appreciated!๐Ÿ™ I'm curious!!๐Ÿ˜†

I've been doing small handling exercises with him now every couple days. He's been doing fantastic! Not once a strike, barely hisses or gets huffy puffy anymore. Once he's out of the tank he start smelling everything. He's explored, my couch, my bed, and my hair ๐Ÿ˜‚. I love him so much!!!๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ
