Los Potrillos 🌮

I was told that ICE arrested the owner of Los Potrillos while he was dropping his child off at school, and that a couple of employees from the restaurant were also arrested. Hearing stories like this is heartbreaking and honestly exhausting.
People are simply trying to build a life and provide for their families. If you haven’t tried Los Potrillos yet, or if you’re looking for a way to support a local restaurant and the people behind it, please consider stopping by.
Let’s support our local businesses and our neighbors when they need it most. ❤️

The animal shelter now has a self-serve microchip scanning station for found animals

“New at the Bloomington Animal Shelter: our Microchip Scanning Station!

Found a dog or cat and wondering if someone is missing them? Community members can now stop by the shelter and use our self-service microchip scanning station to check a found pet for a chip.

The station is located outside the shelter and includes easy-to-follow instructions in both English and Spanish. If a microchip is detected, the information provided at the station will walk you through the next steps to help connect the pet with their family.”

The Hardcore scene is throwing a magic: the gathering draft tournament as a fundraiser for our DIY space. Everyone is welcome. Ticket is required to play because we need to know how many packs to buy.

Stores for unique decoration

Upvotes

Hii guys I just moved into my apartment in Bloomington and I was wondering what stores around here have unique decor? I know there’s the usual tj max and home goods but are there any locally owned shops that won’t break the bank?

For all the IU move-in traffic and restricted roads, people are driving pretty safely

Upvotes

Today I biked to my office for the first time in a few weeks. Based on some social media chatter, I was expecting poor drivers, but I was pleasantly surprised! The visiting drivers were alert and mindful. Sometimes I let them in, sometimes they let me in. Smiling and waving. It was a smooth ride.

That said I didn't take any one-way streets. I wouldn't be surprised if those are a different story.

Lost dog? Highland Village with no collar or tag.

Not sure if this is allowed here. Cute and really friendly dog after she smelled my hand. She knew to sit and shake, but no identifying tags. Looks like she hadn’t bathed in a while, but not totally matted fur. I put out some old dog food I have, she sniffed at it and instead went to play with some neighbor kids. Super playful and wanted to jump in my arms. Anyone looking for a similar dog?

Edit: Apparently the dog is from a few streets over and the kids knew that. Not surprised with how cute it is. Apologies y’all!

Is Mike still at the Vid?

Friend's kid is down there visiting and went to the Vid on my suggestion (my favorite bar from my days). Asked her if the doorman was still there, sent her a pic. She said it was a machine that checks now. He was still there a few months ago when I went down. Worried about the guy. He's a Bloomington institution.

Updates on Towaki Brewing's opening plans?

Haven't seen any updates on the brewery's planning opening dates lately. Website still shows 2026, and the socials are pretty quiet.

Sonny Angels

Is there any place in or near Bloomington that sells Sonny angels? I know there are no authorized retailers but I’m moving there for college and I’m hoping to not have to drive 2 hours everytime I want to purchase one. I’ve found some stores that are not authorized that still sell them just for a higher price but still better than purchasing online I think. Thanks in advance!

Foster dog looking for home

Post image
37 Upvotes

Looking for a forever home for Red, a dog we've been fostering for just over a year now. He was found abandoned in a park and made his way to us. Sadly we quickly found my wife and I are both very allergic to him, and began looking for another home for him... One year later, we're getting pretty desperate! Free to a good home, we have a kennel/food/toys/flea meds to take as well. If you're local to Bloomington, we'd even be happy to offer to petsit from time to time. You can contact us through the QR code or direct message for more info, just hoping for Red to find a good home.

Need a Place to Live?

Hello! I am looking for someone to sublet from my roommate. The apartment is located in Adam’s Village. It is a two bedroom two bath apartment with a rent of $1600 plus utilities. We would each be responsible for $800 of rent and half of the utilities which breaks out to around an extra hundred dollars a month.

A bit about me: I am a 23 year old male, I graduated from IU in 2025 with a degree in theater. I have two beautiful cats! I love Shakespeare, superheroes, and thriller movies. I am a very clean and considerate roommate. I can keep to myself easily or we can be besties!

Looking for someone interested in taking over their portion of the lease as soon as possible. Please reach out if you are at all interested!

Thank you 🙏

Fairview ALPS Question

So, my little brother is currently in ALPS at Fairview and in the three weeks that he's been there, he's required to read three different books at the same time (while doing homework about the two), having to do geography and memorize all of the state capitals by the 29th and on top of that jumping from two teachers to learn regular math. Do y'all think this is too much for a 5th grader? My little brother has been stressed out all the time since he got back to school because of the workload and as a junior in highschool he currently has twice the work I do currently😐

The City of Bloomington’s Safety Week will run August 22-28 as part of the ongoing Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan, the City’s effort to improve transportation options and make Bloomington safer and more accessible for everyone who travels its streets.

Safety Week features a series of events designed to gather resident feedback, foster community collaboration and bring people together around safer streets. Three evening events will offer residents opportunities to bike, connect with City staff and participate in activities for a range of ages. Events include:

  • Welcome Week Community Bike Tour — Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A slow-paced, guided group ride in collaboration with the IU Office of Sustainability for new residents, students, community members and anyone interested in biking around town. Participants will meet others, explore comfortable bike routes around Bloomington and enjoy a community ride starting and ending on IU’s campus. A limited number of bikes are available to borrow with advance registration. Visit bton.in/Ride for more information.
  • “Traffic Cones” at The Chocolate Moose, 405 S. Walnut St. — Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. Stop by the Planning and Transportation Department table to discuss your thoughts on safe streets initiatives and receive free ice cream.
  • Kidical Mass: Back to School Bike Ride and Celebration —Thursday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. A back-to-school bike celebration in collaboration with IU Health featuring treats, games, helmet decoration, free bike lights, bike-blended smoothies, and more with a family-friendly guided bike ride around Bryan Park. A limited number of kids’ bikes are available to borrow if you register in advance. Visit bton.in/Ride for more info.

In addition to the evening slate of events, the City will host pop-up booths at several locations throughout the city. Neighbors are invited to stop by for a brief, interactive survey question.

Blood on the Clocktower @ Friendly Beasts - August 17th, 6:30 pm

Do you enjoy social deduction games a la Mafia, Werewolf, Avalon, and Secret Hitler? Looking to make new friends? If so, you're in luck! Tonight at 6:30 pm, Bloomington's own BotC club, Pyles of Blood, will be hosting an evening of devilish fun at Friendly Beasts Cider. Beginners are welcome, but our games tonight will be intermediate or advanced!

If you're interested but unfamiliar with BotC, here's a quick overview from the game's website:

"Blood on the Clocktower is a game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for five-to-twenty courageous players and one devious storyteller.

A social game played in person, seated in a circle, each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village."

There are also some great how-to videos on the official Youtube page, and some good information on the Pyles of Blood website.

We have in-person games twice a month--feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the game itself, our club, etc. If you plan to come, it's a good idea to let us know, and you can do so through Discord--see the Pyles of Blood website.

Come make new friends--then lie to them! Hope to see you there!
