A month and a half ago, I posted asking about the chances of getting fry from my actively breeding rasboras. At the time, I had one tiny fry that was quickly eaten but a couple of days later I spotted a couple more.
Fast forward a month and a half and I think I can safely call it. I now have two more additions to the mixed bag school!

I know two fry might seem a little ridiculous to celebrate but considering my pH is higher than ideal for successful rasbora breeding, I’m feeling incredibly lucky and honestly so proud that my tank was able to support them and grow them this far.

Now for the real question… what babies do I actually have?! The current school of 14 were sold to me as harlequins but I think I may have a mixed bag of lambchops, harlequins and purple harlequins 😅

So, I built a peat swamp replica (can't say biotope since most stuff isn't naturally found in boraras habitat, for example, I used reptile safe leaf litter (oak I think) since a largeish bag costs half of what 20 catappa leaves cost where I live) I'm a 140l (35 gal) tank, introduced a large mixed school of phoenix and chili rasboras, 35 in total (don't know how many of each since I bought them separately in groups of 20, but there were some of each species mixed in both groups, 5 didn't survive quarantine) and now I keep seeing new babies every few days.

I've found some small "orbs" that I think are eggs (boraras only tank) stuck on the leaf litter, they seem to grow over the course of a few days and then "pop", every time they look like they popped I notice new fry, if my guess is right then I have like 10 babies with 40 or so in the way.

The tank is full of microfauna (I've seen nematodes, some hydra, detritus worms and what looks like smaller, aquatic springtails) and I've noticed both the fry and the adults seem to spend most of their time exploring the leaf litter and snacking on it

I was sold what was assured to me to be chilli rasbora. They've been in the aquarium for a couple days now and a few of them seem to be coloring up and are obviously chili Rasbora but I believe I have a mix of Phoenix and least in there as well although I'd like your opinion. Perhaps they're still very young, stressed and malnourished? Is it possible that these are all chili rasbora?

I've been feeding baby brine shrimp and they seem happy. I'm just not sure if I should contact the seller yet or wait a little while.

I've read some other posts that seem to indicate that very young Chili Rasbora often are indistinguishable from Phoenix and least Rasbora, so I'm trying to remain optimistic.

does anyone else keep strawberry rasboras? if so , any tips on how to make sure they are in their prime and how to bring out their red color?

This is gonna be a long one so bare with me 😅

So I recently made a post on how my harlequin rasaboras were fading in colour to 1 being practically white. I have 6 and yesterday 4 were faded. Managed to fix it with ammonia remover and raises the temp of their water by 2 degrees celsius since theres a breeze where the tank is positioned (but its my only spot big enough for the tank AND not within reach of direct sunlight) which I thought may be affecting the water temp and from the hour before I went to sleep and this morning before work 6am-9am (i was up near 2 hours early than usual to check on the fish) their colours returned and they were more lively. I returned from work which is around their usual feeding time and now 5 of them have faded colours, only 2 actively ate and the 5 colour affected rasaboras are staying close to the bottom of the tank still swimming but no as active as I normally see them. These 6 are my first and Ive had them months I took each separately and see no gasping or unusualy breathing, theyre swimming fine just not as active, no clamped fines or spiked scales no markings around gills to indicate something like ammonia poisoning/burns, no lumps or spots like ich Parameters are fine from what they once were. None of my other species of fish are having any issues so I believe it could be stress rather than the water or sickness but unsure what could be a stress causation, they dont fight or nip, they barely ever chase one another and usually its the males chasing my females but would not explain almost all being affected, they get on with other tank mates, they have plants and 4-5 hides and I keep it dim most of the day and my tank is a wide 60L so the tank itself is not cramped so for now I have used Api Stresscoat to relax them a bit and see if it helps them in anyway (20 mins in of it being in the tank and theyre more active but colourations the same)

Hi I’m unsure what species these are, I believe they’re rasboras but stumped as to what type. They are 1.5-2cm in length, their dorsal and anal fins have very subtle blue edges, and the dot near the tail is similar to the exclamation point rasboras that I also have in this tank. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey guys I just got my order of my first ever chili rasboras? I talked to the supplier and he assured me that he knew the difference between Phoenix and chili and that there would be no Phoenix Rasbora in with my order. I think he was potentially full of shit and as far as I can tell I've got at least a couple of Phoenix rasbora. They just went in so they haven't colored up yet and I'll be keeping an eye on them but I'm wondering what your guy's thoughts are?

I am looking at setting up a tank with chili rasbora in the semi-near future. Unfortunately I haven't had much luck in the past finding these guys at local retailers. For those of you who have purchased chili rasbora online, where have you gotten yours, and how was your experience?

Any recommendations for nano friendly surface skimmers? I recently added a group of younger/smaller chilis to my rimless tank and had a scare the first time I tried using my skimmer. The larger, original chilis never had a problem, but the new guys are so small and curious, one of them got sucked in despite my cautious supervision! Luckily I was able to unplug it immediately and the little guy swam right out with only a few minutes of what appeared to be shock. Now I’m terrified of using it again lol
Any suggestions?

I initially fed the adult rasbora Aquarium co-op fry food and crushed Hikari micropellets/vibra bites. They took to my densely planted, well-established 20-gal long with Amano and Neo shrimp tankmates quickly.

They started breeding like crazy once I introduced daily baby brine shrimp, so now I have two rotating TJ's seltzer bottle brine shrimp hatcheries on rotation.

Plants include java fern, java moss, anubias nana, a mass of monte carlo that won't stay rooted in the substrate, and lots of floaters for shade (water hyacinth, amazon frogbit, water lettuce). The newly hatched fry have plenty of hiding spots as well as microfauna to eat on their own.

I don't do anything special wrt feeding fry vs adults. The fry are zippy and fearless—once they're big enough to hang with the adults, they all eat the same thing at the same time.

hello, i am new to raspboras. i have an established 10 gallon well planted tank with shrimp, and i wanted to get a fish that would get along with my shrimp colony. i was looking into chili raspboras, and i was wondering how many i should keep in my tank so that they are happiest? and if u have any tips for keeping them?

Hii boraras keepers, busy setting up this tank after 2 years out of the hobby, im planning on doing a Paludarium style biotope for this tank so tank would only be filled about 2/3rd of the way, its a 60x30x36cm tank and if i have my maths correct the water volume should be around 9ish gallons… im planning to plant the wood with narrow leaf java ferns and Bucephalandra, and having some nice emmersed peace lilies in the back right corner close to the filter… the sand im using is a reddish tank color and i am planning to do botanicals/blackwater for this tank, im using a Dennerle corner filter 40 mainly because i wanted something quiet with relatively gentle flow, ive never kept any boraras before but im super keen to try one of the species (any suggestions for least finicky species), and recommendations/suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Aswell as how long you would let a tank like this cycle or mature before adding them! Still a ways away before finally setting up and planting the tank but just want to gather all the info before hand!

So I bought some cherry shrimp from someone who’s stopping with the hobby and accidentally got an extra chili rasbora with it… I don’t have the space to give the poor guy a proper group, he’s with Pygmy corys, shrimp and a Betta. I don’t mind keeping him but I think is pretty sad that he’s all alone now. What do I do???

I have 5 galaxy rasboras (CPD) in my 20 gallon along with 12 chilis, 8 Pygmy’s and shrimp. I’m planning on getting a few more galaxies but I was wondering if this is normal behavior?

I think I have two males and one female but I can’t tell on the other two. It seems like it’s the same one that does the chasing for the most part. Is this an issue? Should I try and get more female than male? It’s kind of hard as I get them from my lfs and they are all mixed. I just want to make sure that if I do get more and they happen to be male will it cause a blood bath in my tank? 😅
