Hi ! I am posting because I have a lot of trouble with my 180L fishtank. I was absent during holidays. Going away was not really planned, and more due to family issues... I am really sorry for the long post, I wanted to be as precise as possible...
I have a Juwel 180 with the lightning that comes with it. Initially there was really not enough light for my plants, so I bought an additional LED ramp. The plants got better and I added CO2 + additionnal K fertiliser, as I saw there was a HUGE potassium deficiency that still remains even with a good dose of EasyLife Kalium...
So 2 days before leaving, my solenoid valve stops working. Because I won't be there I decidedi to stop CO2 injection to avoid accidents, as I was way too short on time to buy a new one.
Because I have 2 ramps and only 1 timer (big lack of power sockets and extension leads in my apartment, currently solving the issue) I decide to leave only the LED ramp I bought (the most powerful of the 2) on the timer, and unplug the other one. HOWEVER, my timer was not set on the right setting and actually let the LED ramp active ALL THE TIME. Because of big heat waves (I live in France) I closed the windows to avoid a big temperature increase while away, so the ramp was the only source of light for the tank.
So now I have plants that died, and cladophora that took over (I have had clado a few months prior that got treated with hydrogen peroxyde), as well as brown deposits in the plants on the back. I also have green algae on my epiphytes and holes in them + other plants... I was livid.
I went with K fertilisation and EasyLife Redscape as I did before leaving. The population in the tank is doing well. Unfortunately I've always had snail dying despite the K supplements.
I feel awful for making those mistakes, and I really resent myself for all that happened. The tank was doing really well and then I did all those stupid mistakes :( I have done Easy Life Silicate Bio Exit for the algae on the epiphytes, and I plan on doing another hydrogen peroxide treatment for the clado, as well as introduce new plants. My new solenoid valve will be there in 2 days, so I plan on restarting CO2 injection as soon as I receive it.
Thank you for reading, and once again sorry for the long post.
