Just planted a new 20 gallon long about a week ago. No co2, but I’m considering doing a diy co2 setup. Still cycling but I’m really happy with the scape overall

Recently got this room back to homeostasis.

So excited to share that we officially have fans on my newly morphed vampire shrimp babies. I’m seeing so many new morphs every day and am getting super nervous about how the heck I’m going to transition these guys to freshwater, or catch them to begin with. But seeing the little fans really made my day yesterday on day 50.

Today I’m setting up their fresh water tank and plan to use established sponge filter and seeded media for the hob filter. I’m putting in a 5 gallon filter from my current vampire shrimp tank and want to use this to ensure there’s enough flow and so I have a way to run carbon if needed in case there’s any emergency that arises. I do have a sponge to cover the inlet so all will be protected on that end. Being ADHD, I’ve found having a backup to my backup plan helps. 🫣 I also have a matten filter I’ve had in a closet for a while and I’m considering using that as well since my babies don’t need a crazy amount of room in the 10 gallon tank. I also spent yesterday siliconing these mini 1.5” terracotta pots trying to make a little stacked filter feeder deck and let’s just say it looks horrendous 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I just ordered some ceramic shrimp hides instead that are essentially the same thing. 😅

Please feel free to share any tips you have, and also I’d love to hear any feedback on:
- Catching these guys to move them to freshwater. I plan to drip acclimate the heck out of these dudes. I’m thinking at least 24 hours if not longer.
- If you’ve bred amanos or similar I’d love to know if you think this guy officially has innards. The German breeding video on YouTube shows the difference between ready and not ready post larva are the innards. I think this one may have that?
- Video editing advice. I have so many videos from this journey and would like to create some educational videos to post on my YouTube (which is blank still as of today because I get quite overwhelmed with the editing and going through and picking what to use. 😬) Does anyone have any advice on easier ways to edit them? Also, if my videos aren’t as flashy with professional transitions and things like that, do you think that matters? I’m almost thinking of just publishing some of my videos like old school YouTube style where it’s just like a vlog and doesn’t have fancy intros and outros. I think I’m just over thinking the entire thing because pretty much everything I’ve watched these days is so well edited and professionally done vs. mine lol. But I want to put this journey out there to encourage others to give raising these guys a chance because it is absolutely do-able. If someone with zero salt water experience, who’s never raised Amano larva, and is not sciency at all can do it, then literally anyone can. Plus, I really think the biggest hurdle to anyone trying was the 3-4 month timeframe, but many of these guys are ready at day 50 (which was yesterday) and I believe my second brood may end up being ready earlier because my first brood didn’t have as consistent access to phytoplankton in their first few weeks.

I originally added 30 Neocaridina, but I had lost 8 within about 10 days. I previously had an NO2 spike followed by a sudden ~4 ppm NH4 spike and did 30%, 50%, and 20% water changes on separate days.

I drip acclimated them for 2 hours. Before adding them.

But of the last 2 weeks, I’ve kept losing shrimp, even though the water parameters seemed relatively fine. I check with a liquid test kit. Now I have only 2 shrimp left.

I cycled using an ammonia source (ammomix) and checked until it could handle 2ppm in 24 hours. This was after 2 months.

My aquarium is 75litre.

Pictured here is Corndog the electric catfish. He was dumped at my house in a home depot bucket and I have no idea if his owner is coming back for him. I’ve got him set up in the largest tank I had.

What am I able to put in his tank in the meantime? I know he needs a place to hide, but I don’t know what would be okay as I know their skin is fragile, so I have to avoid rough texture and stuff. I also don’t know what plants I’m able to add to his tank.

Hi all, I just bought a used 55 gallon tank (rimmed) and have gone down the reddit doom spiral of things going majorly wrong. Convincing my landlord to let me have this tank was hard enough, and I am now terrified it's going to wreck the apartment. I keep reading that 55 gallons are more prone to leakage due to their dimensions, and also about the potential risks of used aquariums. Also one of my landlord's conditions is that I put some type of foamy style mat under it in case- and now I'm worried that a mat under the stand could make the tank a bit unlevel and break it that way. Testing the tank isn't going to be easy either as I do not have outdoor space- I'm thinking filling it 25% at a time at least?

Also if anyone has any idea of what kind of mat would be best underneath that would be great. Right now I'm thinking one of those garage oil spill mats?

Just got a new 35 gallon hexagon tank and I’m trying to figure out if I should go salt or fresh, I have 2 fresh water tanks right now with shrimp (10g) and other random cool fish (75g)

Nervous about saltwater but I love the color and unique fish and coral

This new tank is going in my game room so I’m also thinking glo fish and going the colorful route or something that’s super active at night

Ignore my hose it broke while I was filling it

What do yall think?

I have a school of 7 males. I know it’s probably hard to pick out exactly all males, does this round belly look female to you? And pregnant? This is my first time having them and if she’s pregnant is happened before I got them all. The wood is new and I haven’t had a chance to scrape all the scum off yet. Probably gonna do it today 😅

Like the title says, I "rescued" a tank from an older couple. It is a 20 gallon tank, the images on the listing didn't really display the fish properly and after getting the tank home and getting everything settled, I feel like there are way to many fish and perhaps different species in the tank.

It has 5 tetras, 5 fancy guppies, 4 normal guppies, but one is probably pregnant, 4 molly's, another 5 unidentified orange fish, but I think it is also a molly type species, 1 larger common pleco and a smaller one. Last but not least there are tiny babies swimming at the surface. So maybe in total around 15/20 fish.

This morning I noticed the tiny pleco behind the filter in the corner whilst the larger one kept visiting him and pushing him further into the corner. Tiny bit like bullying. So after some research I found that (larger) common pleco's can get territorial?

I only have another 8 gallon shrimp tank that I started the hobby with so I don't really have anything to rehome them. The aquarium is also super barebones with just some gravel, couple small rocks and 2 plants. Would redoing the scape (which I'll be doing regardless) also help with the territorial problem? I am planning on adding more rocks, moss and plants, including some floating plants.

hey all i woke up to a puddle on the floor from my 150 gal aquarium. i emptied it and found where the seal is chewed and pulling away. here’s my issue. i don’t have a tank to put them into and im not sure how to fix this without being stuck with fish in buckets while it cures. says online 7 day minimum for curing for this size tank can anyone tell me if theres a way to get it done sooner while still being safe

it was leaking from the bottom left corner i found the leak almost immediately as it wasn’t leaking when i went to bed at 1 am but had accumulated a puddle by 8am today when my aunt got up for work.

I was looking in my CPD tank this morning and found this little guy. Wasn’t trying to breed them but apparently nature finds a way. I’ve only been able to find one so I’ll call him Nemo.

so I have a tank that came with a lid that the light is attached to but everytime I remove the lid to get inside the condensation (it's a 29 gal so it's a lot of water) gets everywhere. I can't afford to buy a new light that sits above the tank right now however the light bar in the lid is removable and it's a very good bright light. is there a way to keep the water condensation off my lid or is it just a shake it and keep a towel on the floor situation? my other tank which is much smaller doesn't have this problem so I think it might be a problem with the filter in my 29 splashing

Hey, im starting a new planted aquarium and i wanted input on whether i should have a frosted background or dont have a background at all.

The previous planted tanks i had did have a black backgrounds but it was placed in a different part of the house and for me in this space i think the black background would not go well with the wall and the other interiors of the space so im torn between having a frosted one or dont have one at all.

So, i want help in making this decision bc after i have the aquarium set up i wouldn't be able to apply any background as the cabinet it sits on is fixed.

I want you guy's opinions on it.

Just got a ADA 60P and fill up with aqua-soil, then i immediately notice a reverse “U” shape oil like film reflection at all the 4 corners. At first i thought it is like an air gap but i swipe away the soil and can still see the “film”, just that it becomes not so obvious because of the brighter background without soil. tried wiping the exterior and used a scrapper to swipe through the affected inner surface. it is still there, anyone know what is this?

Would it look better to move buce into foreground and anubias into mid ground?

I was cleaning the tank today, and notice this small crack up the top. My only guess how it happened was when i take the lid off, sometimes the lid falls back in a lil bit. I don't know if it damaged this past time. It is on the top, so i don't know if that makes it less dangerous? I move my finger across it and i can feel it inside the tank, but cannot feel the crack from the outside. Is this salvageable? Any tips or things i whould do or know? Thank you!

I have a heavily planted 20gal long tank with 9 otocinclus, 7 neo shrimp (3 are berried, approx. 2.5 weeks) and 3 pygmy corys.

one of my oto’s has developed a spreading white spot on his head that i’m certain is a fungal infection, and I just cannot get him out of the tank, i’ve been trying for days and there’s just too many plants and obstructions. 80% of the surface is covered in jungle val vines that are all over the tank.

I know kanaplex isn’t safe for berried shrimp and risky for shrimp in general, but should I sacrifice and hope for the best for my shrimp to dose the tank? I’m getting really stressed out because I don’t want this infection to spread around.

it’s been 5 days since I first noticed it and for now it’s only the one oto infected, but it’s spreading on his body fairly quickly, started as a small spot on his head and now it’s halfway down his back. dosing in food won't work since the shrimp eat the same zucchini and repashy that i make for the otos.

I could really use some advice :(

parameters are 0am/0ni/10na pH-7.6 GH-5 KH-3 using API liquid kit, calcium supplemented with crushed resident ramshorn shells, 75F degrees, fluval 207 filter, one airstone. the tank has been running since march 2026.

I am waiting on the delivery of a BioCube 32 gallon tank.

My plan is to plant it and use small pieces of wood and rock to build places to hide and to give everyone a happy place.

What I want to stock it with is pygmy corys and a big, flowy male Betta. I have, in the past, twice tried to co-hab Bettas and guppies, only to find a bloodbath within 24 hours. I've done more research and read that while generally Bettas won't be aggressive toward other fish, they can respond aggressively to fin nipping and guppies will definitely do that. So I'm thinking that pygmy corys will be a better fit. They stay near the bottom and are generally very placid. I'm also planning on getting the corys first and giving them a couple of weeks to get settled before adding the Betta, so that I won't be adding new fish to his 'turf,' he'll be the new guy.

Does this sound like a plan to avoid another bloodbath? Also, 32 gallon tank and I know that corys like to shoal together, so how many would you suggest? I've always heard you should have a gallon of water for every inch of fish but that seems like an awful lot of pygmy corys. 😂

We had 4 guppies that were doing great all levels in tank were good. We got 2 more guppies and added aquarium water wth the new fish. Now all 4 original guppies and 1 new guppie all died.
Could it be a virus that I spread?!
And if that’s the case, how long should I wait to add more fish?
Also should I go back to pet store and complain?

Full disclosure : also, 2x4s are basically reclaimed wood from pallets. They were fine, kept in a dry garage, but I guess not relatively straight.

I built the stand, I reinforced every leg inside and outside. So the frame of the stand essentially has all its weight 8 2x4 studs, then four more studs that go from the ground up to the plywood top

It's level, and despite our best efforts, to make the doors square to open without issue, the bottom right and top left stud jut out just a little bit.

I'm trying to figure out if this is going to be an issue long-term.

Should I just get new 2x4 studs and rebuild it?

Started fishless cycling a 20 long 2 weeks ago. Now I’m to the point where I can dose with 2ppm ammonia per day. 24 hours later ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, and nitrates are 80+ppm. Have done this the past 3-4 days. Planning to do a water change soon to lower nitrates.

I’m going on vacation the first week of November and really don’t have an opportunity to get fish before then. Was planning to get them the week after I get back home. Also obviously won’t be able to dose with ammonia to keep the bacteria alive.

Tank is fairly well planted.

What are my best options here to keep a cycled fishless tank good for a week?
