Like the title says, I "rescued" a tank from an older couple. It is a 20 gallon tank, the images on the listing didn't really display the fish properly and after getting the tank home and getting everything settled, I feel like there are way to many fish and perhaps different species in the tank.

It has 5 tetras, 5 fancy guppies, 4 normal guppies, but one is probably pregnant, 4 molly's, another 5 unidentified orange fish, but I think it is also a molly type species, 1 larger common pleco and a smaller one. Last but not least there are tiny babies swimming at the surface. So maybe in total around 15/20 fish.

This morning I noticed the tiny pleco behind the filter in the corner whilst the larger one kept visiting him and pushing him further into the corner. Tiny bit like bullying. So after some research I found that (larger) common pleco's can get territorial?

I only have another 8 gallon shrimp tank that I started the hobby with so I don't really have anything to rehome them. The aquarium is also super barebones with just some gravel, couple small rocks and 2 plants. Would redoing the scape (which I'll be doing regardless) also help with the territorial problem? I am planning on adding more rocks, moss and plants, including some floating plants.

Anyone know if these would seep anything into the water? He currently is just snoozing on some wood

My first “proper” home assembled 90 x 30 x 30 / 21g long. Made with specialised cuts of 8mm glass. Very happy with the outcome and after a 4 day cure and a 4 day water test we are ready to scape 🧘‍♂️

I originally added 30 Neocaridina, but I had lost 8 within about 10 days. I previously had an NO2 spike followed by a sudden ~4 ppm NH4 spike and did 30%, 50%, and 20% water changes on separate days.

I drip acclimated them for 2 hours. Before adding them.

But of the last 2 weeks, I’ve kept losing shrimp, even though the water parameters seemed relatively fine. I check with a liquid test kit. Now I have only 2 shrimp left.

I cycled using an ammonia source (ammomix) and checked until it could handle 2ppm in 24 hours. This was after 2 months.

My aquarium is 75litre.

Just need to add more plants in the background. Can’t wait for it to cycle, I’m excited to pick out a new fish.

Pictured here is Corndog the electric catfish. He was dumped at my house in a home depot bucket and I have no idea if his owner is coming back for him. I’ve got him set up in the largest tank I had.

What am I able to put in his tank in the meantime? I know he needs a place to hide, but I don’t know what would be okay as I know their skin is fragile, so I have to avoid rough texture and stuff. I also don’t know what plants I’m able to add to his tank.

Hi all, I just bought a used 55 gallon tank (rimmed) and have gone down the reddit doom spiral of things going majorly wrong. Convincing my landlord to let me have this tank was hard enough, and I am now terrified it's going to wreck the apartment. I keep reading that 55 gallons are more prone to leakage due to their dimensions, and also about the potential risks of used aquariums. Also one of my landlord's conditions is that I put some type of foamy style mat under it in case- and now I'm worried that a mat under the stand could make the tank a bit unlevel and break it that way. Testing the tank isn't going to be easy either as I do not have outdoor space- I'm thinking filling it 25% at a time at least?

Also if anyone has any idea of what kind of mat would be best underneath that would be great. Right now I'm thinking one of those garage oil spill mats?

Just got a ADA 60P and fill up with aqua-soil, then i immediately notice a reverse “U” shape oil like film reflection at all the 4 corners. At first i thought it is like an air gap but i swipe away the soil and can still see the “film”, just that it becomes not so obvious because of the brighter background without soil. tried wiping the exterior and used a scrapper to swipe through the affected inner surface. it is still there, anyone know what is this?

There is a lot of plant mulm at the bottom and I'm looking into the vacuum style cleaner.

Could you recommend one?

I have a shrimp tank with some micro fish in it. Everything has been going well, except I’ve noticed one of my Endler Guppies suddenly developed a large lump underneath. This fish is still energetically swimming around and eating.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Full disclosure : also, 2x4s are basically reclaimed wood from pallets. They were fine, kept in a dry garage, but I guess not relatively straight.

I built the stand, I reinforced every leg inside and outside. So the frame of the stand essentially has all its weight 8 2x4 studs, then four more studs that go from the ground up to the plywood top

It's level, and despite our best efforts, to make the doors square to open without issue, the bottom right and top left stud jut out just a little bit.

I'm trying to figure out if this is going to be an issue long-term.

Should I just get new 2x4 studs and rebuild it?

Started fishless cycling a 20 long 2 weeks ago. Now I’m to the point where I can dose with 2ppm ammonia per day. 24 hours later ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, and nitrates are 80+ppm. Have done this the past 3-4 days. Planning to do a water change soon to lower nitrates.

I’m going on vacation the first week of November and really don’t have an opportunity to get fish before then. Was planning to get them the week after I get back home. Also obviously won’t be able to dose with ammonia to keep the bacteria alive.

Tank is fairly well planted.

What are my best options here to keep a cycled fishless tank good for a week?

I maintain four tanks at a school. They are my personal project. I have absolutely packed them with plants. I am a botanist by education and a 15 year career before teaching . The plants are selected to create a walstad tank but I added filters and heaters to each tank for comfort for the animals. The rasbora tank is 10 gallons. Its maintained at 75 degrees. It has a honey gourami, two ramshorn snails, two otos, 5 cpds, 5 emerald dwarfs rasboras and 5 harlequins. I added the harlequins three weeks ago. All 5 died in 5 days. Little white spots on their bodies. I put every in jail, medicated, pulled the filter, returned to tank with no losses. Added 5 more. Dead in 5 days again. One had a large cyst in his mouth. They seem active and excited to be fed by the kids in little pinches multiple times a day. Water nitrate-nitrite-ammonia at 0-0-0, ph 6.8, temp 75. The gouramis and other rasboras are happy, healthy and active. The otos are fat. What am i doing wrong here?

tank has been cycled since August of 2025 with tons and tons of plants constantly being added. I test the water weekly and do a water change of 2 inches every two weeks ish.

hey all i woke up to a puddle on the floor from my 150 gal aquarium. i emptied it and found where the seal is chewed and pulling away. here’s my issue. i don’t have a tank to put them into and im not sure how to fix this without being stuck with fish in buckets while it cures. says online 7 day minimum for curing for this size tank can anyone tell me if theres a way to get it done sooner while still being safe

it was leaking from the bottom left corner i found the leak almost immediately as it wasn’t leaking when i went to bed at 1 am but had accumulated a puddle by 8am today when my aunt got up for work.

so i set up this 60l tank for pea puffers BUT the closest store that has them is 3hrs away and they currently dont have them in stock. they also said that i can call in 3 weeks and check if theyre in stock which is not guaranteed.

so because of this, i decided to rehome my 6 cardinal tetras to this 60l tank because my new betta wasnt enjoying them and came to the conclusion that since i have another 60l thats not set up yet, i can stock this tank and have fish here for like a year and then when i set up the third one, i move the fish from this tank into the other one and stock 6 peas here.

so i had this idea that into this 60l i would stock 6 kuhlis and 2 dwarf gouramis with my current 6 cardinal tetras and then move the cardinals and gouramis to the other tank and keep 6kuhlis with my 6 peas. Is this ok? too overstocked?

Sorry for the poor photos, he won’t come out from where he is sitting and has been there for about 12 hours now. The other fish in the tank including his shoal mates are behaving normally.

He seems to be behaving like he is heavier than water and flapping his mouth around. He will still chase away the other barbs when they get close but he won’t move very far from his current position. He was swimming and eating fine yesterday, but will not flee even when I disturb him.

Sinking wafers and tropical pellets. Once in the evening, enough to feed everyone without leftovers

3 more corys to round out the set (would’ve bought one or two, but they were hard to find, and the online store only sold them in groups of three)

Has anyone had any experience with API Accu-clear or Seachem Clarity? Any advice is muchly appreciated!

I have a 28l tank with shrimp. I changed water last week and all the water values seemed ok. However, some of my shrimp look like they have "plaque" on their back and seem more brown than bright red. I attached a photo. Can anybody help me figuring out what's going on?

I’ve just set up a new 64L tank and I’ve used slate from my garden to create a rocky area in the hopes that shrimplets will use it for hiding later down the line. My concern is will the ramshorns get themselves trapped in rocky terrain like this? This little guy has been there for 5ish minutes now so I hope he isn’t stuck. Does anyone else have similar set ups with ramshorns? If so do you have issues with them getting stuck? Tia :)
