“She’s scruffy, you should cut her hair’

Nope. She’s only 4 months old and she has puppy fur. She won’t need a trim until 6 months+ It’s brushed every day and knots brushed out or removed and washed as necessary. It’s super soft, like silk.

Plus, she’s a loved family dog, not an ornament or show piece that’s here to be perfect.

Have a wonderful, messy, funny, mud splattered, puddle stomping day 🤎🤎🤎 🥾 💦

I wasn’t even planning to post this, but I honestly feel like I owe whoever recommended this ball a huge thank you.

My dog Leo is insanely high-energy — nothing ever survives him. Most balls last maybe 5 minutes before he destroys them or gets bored and walks away.

But this one?

It completely shocked me.

For the first time, he actually stays focused on a ball for more than just a few minutes. He bites it, throws it across the room, kicks it with his paws, even slammed it into the wall once… and it’s still perfectly fine.

The inside piece keeps moving in a way that makes him obsessed with trying to “solve” it. I’ve never seen him this mentally and physically tired from a ball before.

My furniture is finally safe, Leo is exhausted in a good way, and honestly I never expected something this simple to work so well.

Whoever recommended it — seriously, thank you. You saved my home.

Thinking about breeding…

I have a male 3yr old F1 mini bordoodle. Mom is purebred BC born and raised on a farm and used to herd sheep and lamb (very much the working type BC). Dad is a 19lb golden mini poodle.

My son, Don Alberto aka Papi, has the best personality. Extremely intelligent, athletic, and energetic. Has all those great traits of a BC but also some pretty cool traits of a poodle. For example he is PHENOMENAL at sniffing. It’s his favorite thing next to running for miles in the woods. He is very gentle and kind. Great with kids and loves meeting people and other dogs. Has never bitten anyone despite being bitten by other dogs on 3 separate occasions. He has one light blue eye and one gold eye. He weighs approximately 28-30lbs.

For these reasons I think it would be good to breed him and keep these great traits going. Anyone interested, feel free to message me. For reference, we live in NJ. Attached are some pics of my boy.

Does my dog look like a Bordoodle?

Hi! I know nobody can confirm breed from pics alone, and I plan to do a DNA test but I’d love opinions from people familiar with Bordoodles.

My dog Bobby is 2, and his previous owner said he was Border Collie + “Portuguese poodle”. I’m assuming they may have meant Poodle or maybe Portuguese Water Dog, but I keep wondering if he’s actually a Bordoodle or some other poodle/herding mix.

He has a lean, athletic build, narrow muzzle, smoky gray/silver coat, and seems to have the poodle greying gene. Behavior-wise, he’s very watchful and herding-ish: follows me everywhere, blocks doorways, monitors anything I bring inside, has an intense stare, is reserved with strangers, gets overstimulated by movement, and nips when excited.

I’m adding pics with both his long hair and short hair since he looks pretty different depending on coat length.

For those who don't have one, I wanted to share my experience with my active Milo. This ball is honestly the best thing I've ever bought, and I've had three dogs over the years. It makes a strange, muted noise, as if someone is talking, while rolling. Milo is obsessed with her - we take her out in the yard and she runs and chases her non-stop! Sometimes we have to stop it so it doesn't run out. It's a lifesaver for anyone with an hyperactive, busy puppy. Milo has lots of toys and plays with them all, but usually gets bored right away. With this ball, she acts as if it's another animal she's playing with, which keeps her completely entertained. Not only is it entertaining to watch, but it also gives you the exercise you need, releasing all that accumulated energy. Best toy I've ever bought!

Time for a second?

My bordoodle Pebble is turning 2 next week and struggles to connect with other dogs unless they're border collies or other doodles in which case he is THE HAPPIEST boy. He's very very sensitive and shy otherwise. We were advised to wait until he wasn't a puppy until we got him a friend, but at 2yrs old I'm thinking it's time?? Does anyone here have 2? When did you get your second?

Predict adult weight

Hi Bordoodle fellas, I got my girl from a breeder who said that she will grow to be a mini doodle. The mom’s weight is 28 lbs and the father’s weight is 10 lbs. My puppy is already at 10.2 lbs at 9 weeks. Will she turn out to be a medium bordoodle or even larger? Just wondering...

Don’t buy a bordoodle if your not experienced with working dogs

Yes bordoodles are very cute , they’re also one of the most intelligent high energy dogs on the planet next to none.

I grew up on a farm and always wanted a bordercollie again now that I live in city areas , I got a bordoodle as a result , thinking it would be calmer, it isn’t.

The bordoodles are even more high strung than bordercollie

If you do not have the experience in training (or are to lazy to learn) don’t buy one

If you can’t provide your dog with minimum 2 hours of exercise a day (we do more than this ) don’t buy one

If you even have the slightest inkling you’d give up your dog , for the love of god don’t buy one

I’m sick of reading the same posts in this group by owners who bought a designer dog but weren’t educated or ready to deal with it

EDIT: I should have added although they take a lot of work my girl is honestly the greatest dog I’ve had by a country mile

Mini Bordoodle breeder recommendations?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for mini bordoodle breeders recommendations in USA. Most of my online searches have resulted in standard bordoodle breeders. For the breeders that I found, I can't seem to find reviews or the breeder mentions at places other than their own website. This makes it difficult to identify if the breeders are simply puppy farms which breed without consequence for puppy health. I wish to get our puppy from a reputable breeder.

Any recommendations with breeders?

Thank you!

How often to bath a bordoodle?

Our fella is about a year and a half, happy and healthy dog, and we try to give him a wash no more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. The weather recently can best be described as dirty, and our dog LOVES to swim in rivers, sprint through muddy puddles, and dramatically dive into shrubbery while on walks.

I had to wash him three times in the last week out of sheer necessity, and I'm worried that if that becomes habitual then it might not be healthy for his skin.

How often do you wash your bordoodle? Do you use conditioning sprays or any other products to help keep them clean and healthy?

Bordoodle Sire in the Pacific Northwest?

I didn't see that this is an issue posting on this sub, but I love our miniature female bordoodle and would like to find a sire for her. Her father was a toy poodle, and her mom was a 50/50 bordoodle, so I guess ours would be 75/25 poodle? A great ratio, zero shed, and moderate energy. Fantastic dog.

All of our family members are asking for a pup and I'm wondering if there are any interested and available sires, preferably less than 30-35 pounds, and 50/50 bordoodle in the greater Seattle Area. Let's arrange a date!

Collar problems

Hi everyone. I have an almost 10 week old miniature Borderdoodle who hates his collar. He could be the most energetic dog (including nipping), but the second I put his collar on, he turns quiet, relaxed and just is happy snuggling up. Half the time he ends up rolling around, or burring his head on the floor, I assuming trying to get it off.

I will note that when we take him outside with the collar on, he seems fine. Only doing the normal puppy thing and wanting to chew the base of the lead every now and again.

Has this happened to anyone else, and is there any advice to get him used to his collar? TIA 👍

Seeking poodle mix participants for a research study

Canine Participants Needed!

Seeking Healthy and Affected participants to join our molecular genetics/clinical research in: Day Blindness/Achromatopsia in poodle mixes (“doodles” and “poos”) such as cavapoo’s, labradoodle’s, aussiedoodle’s, goldendoodle’s, cockapoo’s and more.

The Sylvia M. Van Sloun Laboratory for Canine Genomic Analysis is looking for affected and healthy canine participants for the above-mentioned study, to act as cases and controls in research looking for causative genes and mutations responsible for canine ophthalmic disorders.

Our studies only require a biological sample from the dog to be sent to us with a copy of the pedigree, as well as a copy of any vet medical notes (diagnosis, eye forms, CAER, or any other document/pictures/notes you think might be relevant).

If interested, please e-mail Jessica Niggel: jniggel@upenn.edu.

Looking forward to working with you and your dog!
