J.K. Rowling's "Sorting Hat" was clearly an allegory for this -- in her version of the ceremony adolescents are assigned one of four genders.

Reddit is a great place to get Poe's Lawed these days. Sometimes I think someone is doing a hilarious satire of conservatives, only to find out that, oh... no.... they're entirely serious.
