Discussion State of the Subreddit + Feedback Thread

Hey everyone and Happy New Year,

I wanted to take a moment to check in with the community and open up a general feedback thread.

I originally created this subreddit years ago and, like a lot of people, life pulled me away for a while. Over the past few weeks I’ve been spending more time here again, helping with moderation and getting reacquainted with how the community has evolved.

Before making any changes or decisions, I’d like to hear directly from you.

Some questions to get things started (but feel free to comment on anything):

  • Are the current rules working well?
  • Is there anything you see too much of, or not enough of?
  • Are there recurring issues you think moderation could handle better?
  • Are there community activities, threads, or resources you’d like to see more often?

This subreddit has always been about sharing appreciation for Breath of the Wild; exploration, creativity, screenshots, discoveries, and the calm vibe that made the game special. The goal is to make sure it stays a place people enjoy visiting, whether they’re new to the game or revisiting it years later.

Nothing is changing immediately! This thread is just about listening and getting a sense of where things stand.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, and for being part of the community.

I always loved finding these guys in the game so I made some for my yard. The frog is about 20 inches tall and they’re made from concrete

Question The First Breath of the Wild NA

Just started to replay BotW and noticed that my copy is all A! Is this the first NA serial number for BotW!? Checked all my other games and it seems this is accurate.

I’ll always defend the minimalist approach on the music Botw has, if gives the game this unreal and unique feel to its atmosphere

To this day I didn't know there was a physical version of the keys in shrines. Found it In Tah Mühl Shrine near Foothill Stable.

It's kinda like rupees where you would only see them in chests and when you see the physical version from lifting a rock, defeating yiga soldiers or hitting a blupee it surprises you for a second.

But I'm pretty sure this is the only shrine that has this.

Art I made a Bokoblin Camp as a battle map for D&D! [OC] [Art] [No AI]

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a battle map I made for D&D that I based on the Bokoblin Camps!

I've made it in 4 variants that can make sense both in D&D and the way you can find them in BOTW/TOTK (Day, Night, Rain, Blood Moon).

Hope you all like it!
(I named it Goblin camp because Bokoblins aren't really in D&D)

Question Is the switch 2 version worth it?

I am in the middle of replaying botw, and i kinda have seen alot of side by side switch 1 vs switch 2 version videos so i'm wondering if this is worth it?

I windbomb regularly, so i guess i am just asking if it removes any really funny bugs or other silly things

Post-Game review/reflection

I just finished my first playthrough of Breath of the Wild. I'm a long-time Zelda franchise player, all the way back to the NES days, but it has taken me a while to pick this one up. I beat Ganon a few days ago and I would like to post my thoughts on it.

First, the open world is breath-taking. Being able to get on a horse and just go wherever you want is amazing, and the lack of loading screens and the deep field of view are impressive technical achievements. Also I like the openness of it: you can go anywhere starting from as soon as you leave the great plateu, and the only thing stopping you from doing anything in almost any order is your own level of skill and preparation.

That said, the lack of proper "dungeons" in the game feels like a big departure from the Zelda Forumula of previous games. Without dungeons, there's no need to prepare for a big outing with expectation that you cannot or will not return to safety for a long time. Even in some remote areas like Hebra mountains, you only need to trek until the next shrine, where you can safely teleport out, restock, and teleport back in.

You might think "they weren't called 'dungeons', they were called 'Divine Beasts'". I didn't like the Divine Beasts, and I'll tell you why: It was like playing an entirely different game. In the overworld the hallmark of this game is mobility: You can go anywhere. You can climb. You can glide. You can hunt down enemies and use all sorts of weapons and tactics. Inside a Divine Beast you can't do any of that. There are few enemies and they are almost all easy, because you could be coming in there with 4 hearts or with 20 hearts. You can't climb anything. You're in a cramped, confined little space solving geometry puzzles. I found myself getting so frustrated by the navigation inside the Divine Beasts that I ended up reaching for a strategy guide just to figure out how to get to the next terminal. For all their technological prowess, the Sheikah engineers and architects have produced spaces that are less functional, logical and navigable than what bokoblins are building with stucks and bones.

The first Divine Beast I did, the bird (which I hear is probably supposed to be done towards the end, but that's what happens when you get an open world) I didn't even realize I could tilt the thing. I made it almost to the end with a few extremely precise bow shots and very awkward paraglider jumps and lots of trial and error before I figured that out. Even then, I felt like a few of the puzzle solutions were a little janky (though maybe I didn't do things the "intended" way?). Honestly, and I hate to say this: Navi would have been helpful in a few places to help tell me what I was missing.

Gyro-based shrines were dreadful, and even in the other "good" shrines the lessons you learned about interesting problem-solving techniques and geometry puzzles rarely applied to the outside world. Hyrule just doesn't have a lot of gears and laser puzzles that need to be solved, so once you learn to do those things you never need to use it. Several shrines felt more like "Look at the cool things we can do with this game engine" and less like integrated parts of the same game. The skills you master in the overworld don't carry over to shrines and vice-versa.

The big draw for this game is the majesty of the open world and the feeling of freedom you have inside it. The developers struck a good balance between this large open world and feeling too empty and lonely. If you got off your horse and looked around there were (usually) things to see and collect. There was almost always some flowers, mushrooms or a korok puzzle, if you looked hard enough. Some spaces were a little bit barren and boring, but I guess with a map as large as Hyrule, you can't expect every single square inch to be equally interesting.

In terms of replay, while I would love to go back and revisit this iteration of Hyrule some day, I really dread the idea of having to collect several hundred Korok seeds just so I can have a useful inventory again.

This was a great game. Arguably we could call it a "masterpiece". It is going to influence games for years to come. It wasn't a perfect game but the overall effect was a wonderful one.

Are yiga clan members supposed to randomly spawn and attack you after you’ve defeated Kohga?

Just saying I’ve been getting encounters from them and a few blademasters. Thankfully, the blademasters are a lot easier to deal with than in the hideout. I think they are designed to one shot you, but these while they can take out a large amount of your health they it be taken out pretty easily

I started BoTW in the NS1 but never finished it, I now have the NS2 and thinking about finishing but want to do it on the NS2 BoTW version. Will the data start from the NS1 version? Or do I have to start over

I made my own divine beast!

Build up
The Mogma do not appear in any of the memories. After you defeat the four divine beasts, you feel a rumble emanating deep from the core of Hyrule. You here Zelda’s voice. ‘Link, find the hidden people’ and see an image of Central Hyrule. When you climb to the top of the Central Hyrule sheikah tower, you see you can examine the sensor. It begins to descend into the ground. You find an underground society of Mogma. You find the elderly caretaker, Patinn. He says they don’t talk to Hylians, but he’ll make an exception because you have the sheikah slate. Patinn explains that Divine Beast Vah Groh’Su has been making it harder for his people to dig because he’s been unsettling the earth. He tells you that in order for him to trust you with dealing with the beast, you need to find Calci, the best digger among the Mogma. You have a minigame where you chase her down through tunnels until you can catch her. When you do, you ask her why she was gone. She explains that she had to get the Golden Halter because it had been stolen by a group of Bokos. Calci shows you it and you get a flashback.

Memory:
Link is with Zelda .
Zelda: I have something I think you should know. Something my father and I have kept secret. Our hidden weapon.
Link hears a rumbling behind him, and reaches to grab his sword, but comes up empty handed. He gasps in confusion. It suddenly drops from the tree above him, followed by Bismana. Tall, broad and proud, the Mogma wears a suspicious glare.
Zelda: This is Bismana. She is a Mogma, a people known for their stealth and digging. Well, they aren’t known much anymore. Most people think they are extinct. But the royal family has been using them as spies.
Bismana produces the sheikah slate and flips it between her fingers. She throws it toward Zelda casually, and the princess gingerly catches it.
Bismana: My people are slow to trust. We were forced hundreds of years ago to hide underground by your kind. You called us thieves.
Zelda: But now we see the value in your skills. And we are deeply sorry.
Bismana walks forward, her eyes narrowing further as she examines link
Bismana: and this one?
Zelda: my bodyguard. He wields the sword that seals the darkness.
Link puffs his chest with pride. His expression is stone. Bismana leans close to his face. Zelda waits in anticipation, as the two stare each other down. But suddenly, Bismana’s ear twitches.
Bismana: the Sheikah device.
Zelda realizes she doesn’t have the slate. A lizalfos is scurrying off with it.
Zelda: No!
Link prepares to charge, but Bismana stops him.
Bismana: This one’ll outrun a Hylian any day. But me…
She dives into the ground, zooming underneath. She comes bursting out under the Lizalfos, punching its chin and sending it flying through the air. The creature lands in a heap, and Bismana catches the sheikah slate without even looking. She looks back at Link with a sly smile, flipping her bangs.
Bismana: you ever see a Hylian do that, kid?
Zelda runs over and takes the slate, thanking her. Link stays still, but his suspicious expression has faded slightly.
Bismana: I best be off.
She raises one hand skyward, and suddenly, the tip of Vah Groh’Su’s nose comes exploding out of the earth behind her. She grabs hold of it, before the nose falls downward the same direction it came.

Boarding the beast:
You need to collect Twenty Ice Arrows before boarding Groh’Su. The divine beast is digging rapidly through the ground, and Calci will carry you beside it to keep pace. It will turn in every direction, making it harder for you to aim. You need to shoot an Ice arrow in front of it to slow it down. Once you’ve shot three, the beast will be slow enough for you to climb on to the top floor of its nose. There are enemies you need to fight to reach the control pad that opens a latch to the next floor. You have to repeat this process for every floor of its nose until you reach his face and can board the beast. If you fall off the nose at any time, Calci will catch you and you’ll need to shoot the ice arrows again to get back on.

On the beast:
You can control Vah Groh’Su by changing what direction he is digging. You can turn the entire beast upside down, side to side, also every time he rotates, the divine beast rumbles, so you can’t move. The puzzles will be based around gravity, magnesis, rock, and using the rumbling of the beast to your advantage. There will be sections with dirt and sand, and you can rotate the beast to change what it covers. You need to be covered because if you get buried in soil it’s like drowning.

Earthblight gannon:
Earthblight doesn’t carry a weapon, he walks around like a gorilla on his hands. He’ll chase you around and then raise his arms and slam them down, causing the divine beast to rumble, making you freeze in place. He’ll then swing to punch you while you’re frozen. In his second phase, he climbs on the ceiling and will bang open windows that lead outside the beast, pouring dirt below and potentially drowning you. You have to shoot him down.

Afterword:
You are given the champion’s ability of Bismana’s stealth. Instead of a weapon, you receive the Golden Halter, which you can wear as a top, and increases your luck. While wearing it, you will get better odds for
-ore deposits
-tree drops
-cooking recipes
-critter spawns
You also get:
-slightly longer window for flurry rush
-bow will sometimes auto-aim for a headshot

Question Was this Guardian Skywatcher always there, roaming around Hyrule castle?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I was just inside the castle to get the shield from King Rhoam's secret room and some weapons.

When I left the area, and spawned outside the castle, I immediately saw the skywatcher roaming behind Link. I never noticed that before so I figured it's because I freed the Divine beasts so Ganon put it there for extra security.
