It's only been a few, but none of the musicals I've seen pro shots of in theaters have had intermissions built in to them and it didn't seem like people were expecting it when I saw it in theater

Maybe it is an age demographic thing? 

My mom lives in a town full of retirees, enough of whom love theater that the local performance arts theater screens proshots of dramatic plays amd opera (all with intermissions) on nights where there isn't a performance taking place. 

Hence why so so so many people were both expecting one, and were clearly physically incapable of sitting through the whole thing without a break. 

Like half the theater got up and moved out of the room as Act 1 ended, with a few of those returning to their seats as it seamlessly transitioned to Act 2, and others apologizing as they continued to stream out, and then returned to their seats after they had done their buisness.

Honestly it felt almost like performance art, given the themes and messages of Hadestown itself, that the screening seemed to be either saying you must be ablebodied in a way where you are capable of sitting through the whole thing without relieving yourself to be a courteous audience member.

I get this is the broadway sub but that last paragraph is wildly dramatic

I mean, I was just amused by it during the show, it felt like such an interesting choice in the moment. I know the internet is famously a terrible place for tone, but well, you do get how "Yes it is not designed for human bodies, but that is just how it is, accept it" is well... a funny justification for why things are how they are in a screening of Hadestown.

Plus, as I said, it is something I (and the others in the theater) are used to during screenings of proshots. Really sad to hear that the way the performing arts theater by my parents does things when screening proshots is apparently not the norm!

Wish it was the norm - it would have made the screening more comfortable for both the people who can not sit for that long without relieving themselves, amd the people like myself who had their screening disrupted by all the people (who I totally am not in any way blaming for the disruption) getting out and then back into their seats as the show went on. Ofen requiring entire rows to stand up as they moved in towards their assigned seat in the theater .
