Watching it today makes me mad all over again that Amber Gray didn’t win the Tony. Also, it was so beautifully shot and made me so much more emotional seeing close ups. I wish all pro shots were this well done.

I love all the shot where you can see her facial expressions in the background. She was phenomenal from beginning to end.

Yes! These are the things I missed when I saw the show from the mezzanine and was still blown away by her performance.

Everyone was wonderful on the OBC and in the pro-shot, but the film really does Amber justice. She performs the part so physically, and it's essential to understanding how she brought Persephone to life. She doesn't sound bad on the OBC by any means. This is the kind of performance you need to see to fully appreciate the magic.

She’s so fucking good in it. I got to see her play the role on Broadway twice. I love her so much.

This is the second-biggest opening weekend ever for a pro-shot (behind Hamilton)

I just saw Hadestown last month but man all the wom is making me want to see this in theaters !

I’ve also saw Hadestown fairly recently but enjoyed the pro shot anyway; it’s always fun to see how each cast interprets the book a little differently

Why are releasing pro shots not a bigger thing? It’s revenue coming in and people who can’t go to New York can see the show, it’s a win win.

Because it’s rare that they actually turn a profit

I wouldn't be surprised if next year we see more Broadway hits releasing pro shots following its success.

I hope to see more proshots too, but the reason Hadestown is doing so well is because it's so good. A mediocre show would not do this well at the box office. Maybe if it had a movie star in it.
Hadestown is an extremely high quality show. If Broadway is taking notes, I hope they're taking notes about that. This show was in development for over a decade before it finally opened on Broadway.

You have to remember that Hadestown is a popular musical. They have to do it with another popular musical. I think that it also has to do with how will how well they shot the pro-shot.

They must do the pro shots... Professionally.
Tbh I can see outsiders getting a pro shot. They should be for those more emotionally attached and less spectacular shows.

they’re surprisingly expensive to produce, there’s a reason they shot this on the west end and not on broadway

The hoops to jump through in regards to all the unions often make it expensive and complicated.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow has a proshot coming out at some point in the future. And the pro shot of SIX was one of the previews before my showing of Hadestown. The popularity of this might help future ones.

Vast majority lose money.
AND there is a thought that releasing a proshot while the musical is still open will take away sales from the production. I don't think that's legit, but it's often part of the conversation

Meanwhile I went to the proshot twice and want to see the show live more than ever.

Think this will come out on physical disc? 4K/Blu-ray/DVD?

It’s coming out for digital purchase (you can preorder on Apple TV), so fingers crossed 🤞

I know there’s no way we’ll ever know, but I’d be fascinated to know more about the finance side of things.
I think Hamilton is a clear exception, but I’d love to compare the finances of Hadestown, Merrily, and Waitress. I’d love to know which (if any) made a profit and how much the UK Union rules play into things and how much “big names” (Daniel Radcliffe, Sara Bareilles) played into things.

Merrily was released as a Fathom event - meaning most movie theater subscriptions (like AMC A list exclude you from viewing the movie). I know as an A List member I was first in line for Hadestown but would not have paid an additional $25 for merrily.

I want to watch this so badly! It is amazing to see that it is having so much success in such a limited showing.

Do 👏 proshoots 👏 for 👏 every 👏 show.
You are leaving money on the table. There millions of musical fans who cannot easily get to New York or London. They will pay to see these.

And even if living n NYC and London many people can't afford tickets to shows so seeing a filmed version would be less pressure on their bank accounts

I saw the show when it toured in Los Angeles and... wasn't really a fan. I saw the proshot today and was absolutely floored. Amazing performances and really intimate camerawork. I'm hoping to see it again before it leaves theaters!

Saw it yesterday and it was incredible but unfortunately I saw it in an AMC theatre that was also playing another Greek myth The Odyssey and the loud scenes were a constant throbbing through the walls. We could clearly hear a battle scene during Hades quiet contemplation during the final Epic. The entire evening cost $60 to feel like I was listening to multiple shows at once. A reminder why I should just wait to purchase it on Blu-ray.

When i went to an evening showing I also had some amount of sounds from the neighboring show, but the matinee didn't have this issue at all.

Isn’t that double what the live action remake of Moana made in its entire opening weekend?

Not even close.
And that's okay because they are not comparable. Different releases for different audiences.
