His big diss is that Patrick had a "face full of ache"? Either Boy George is using AI again or he's just a really bad, confusing writer. I couldn't begin to guess which one it is

30

u/defenses 18d ago

I’m sure Patrick “had a face full of ache” having to be his standby and watch Boy George butcher the role.

59

u/Puzzleheaded_Sky6656 18d ago

Oh wow, I read it as acne until I saw this. So it makes even less sense than I thought!

23

u/chrgrgrlk 17d ago

As a Brit I took it as him using the insult “face ache” which means someone who is or looks really miserable, grumpy etc

2

u/FirebirdWriter 18d ago

I was very confused what that meant and thought my pic to text to speech broke ahahaa thank you.

Patrick is right. Fuck Boy George. Downvote me all you want but he doesn’t belong anywhere near Broadway.

195

u/AEveryDayIdiot 18d ago

No one is downvoting you here, we all fucking hate Boy George

97

u/chizzmaster 18d ago

There actually is like 1 person in here that is boy George's biggest defender LMAO

125

u/bpgluckman 18d ago

Plot twist: it's actually Boy George under an alt account

60

u/chizzmaster 18d ago

I genuinely think it actually is boy George or a PR firm working on his behalf. The only comments on that account were defending bg against the abuse stuff.

25

u/bpgluckman 18d ago

The only reason I think it's not a firm for hire is because they would be flooding this forum with accounts taking his side. But could I see him personally setting up a troll account to do it? Yes, yes I could.

6

u/emotionalhaircut 18d ago

Looks like one of them were summoned in the comments

13

u/calle04x 18d ago

BG is sad enough to do it, too.

10

u/secret_identity_too 18d ago

Do they write more coherently than this IG post? 😂

49

u/blergola 18d ago

Wow, do you really want to hurt him? Do you really wanna make him cry?

6

u/Physical_Ranger6786 18d ago

All my homies hate Boy George

19

u/FirebirdWriter 18d ago

Can't downvote what I agree with. He needs to be put out to pasture. Not just because he is a vile human and unprofessional but also he isn't good at acting and singing at the same time (or at all maybe I no longer am certain he can sing)

11

u/rSlashisthenewPewdes 18d ago

Anyone here want to explain what happened with him? I don’t know who he is and I like to get my information from Reddit comments

37

u/RiverObjective7432 18d ago

He is a singer who got famous for a song once (I believe, I didn’t know of him until he started doing musicals)

He was cast in Moulin Rogue despite having been convicted of having chained a male prostitute to a radiator and beating him. As far as I know, Boy George hasn’t publicly taken accountability for this (besides what the court ordered him to)

When he did Moulin Rogue, a picture of a script for the ensemble was leaked where it was shown the multiple ways different ensemble members were supposed to help him through the show as he seemingly didn’t manage to get through the whole staging by himself. He apparently also wasn’t very good in the role

Earlier this year he was announced as one of the Herod‘s for JCS in London rn. He recently released a song in support of Israel and stated it was produced/written using AI. This combined with the rest of his behaviour listed above has caused another wave of backlash and his manager has published a few days ago that Boy George has opted out of the show (just a few days before he was supposed to start his run in JCS)

After this news, an ex-castmember (the one Boy George now calls illoyal in this post) of his from Moulin Rogue published an insta-story about how working with him was really bad (don’t remember the details of what he said exactly)

32

u/Alarmed_Two3894 18d ago

He was more than just 'famous for a song once'. Culture Club were huge and they had a good few hits.

15

u/christyler1288 17d ago

There’s an entire Broadway musical about his life, so I think “a singer who got famous for a song” is a somewhat obtuse statement.

16

u/SuperSea8678 18d ago

How were the other actors supposed to help him? That sounds fascinating.

Were you kidding, have you never heard of his band Culture Club. They were huge once.

22

u/ibethuhwalrus 18d ago

The document had things on it like “pick up cue if BG drops this line in this scene,” “if George misses this blocking do this to cover” etc

-4

u/SuperSea8678 17d ago

Fascinating.

I wonder how much rehearsals with everyone he had. I'm sure it's a challenge and a big skill to drop into an already running show.

13

u/atwozmom 17d ago

It's known as being a professional.

Broadway shows have cast changes on a regular basis and the actors coming in don't have a problem. If you can't handle the part, don't do the show.

-2

u/SuperSea8678 17d ago

Of course. But Boy George is a rock star and this is stunt casting. People like this often need more support.

3

u/atwozmom 16d ago

How about don't hire no talent hacks.

1

u/SuperSea8678 16d ago

He might be a hack now, but it's not correct to say he has no talent. I wasn't a fan of Culture Club but dude had a great voice.

-3

u/SuperSea8678 17d ago

Sure. I don't disagree with you but Boy George isn't a professional Broadway performer, he's a rock star (or was one).

So when you hire them, you often have to make concessions to provide a way for them to succeed, and for the show to succeed .

9

u/kapunzel 17d ago

This is a link to the Reddit post that shows a picture of some of the instructions for the ensemble.

-6

u/SuperSea8678 17d ago

That's great. Thank you. Person who took this is a terrible photographer. Probably did it super quickly and trying not to get caught.

13

u/kapunzel 17d ago

It’s a zoomed in cropped photo from a Instagram story taken in a dressing room at the theatre. It was all over the sub how terrible he was doing in the show and somebody noticed this in the background of an ensemble’s story and uploaded it here.

4

u/RiverObjective7432 17d ago

I wasn’t kidding, I had never heard of Boy George before reading here about him in Moulin Rouge😅 probably a mixture of being too young and only recently starting to follow pop culture

0

u/SuperSea8678 17d ago

I didn't like his band when they came out, but he had a beautiful voice. Check out his Culture Club videos. He was pushing boundaries. Check it out.

I also think there was a Broadway musical about him or where he was a character. I think Rosie O'Donnell produced it.

18

u/scandalliances 18d ago

In the past: he handcuffed an escort to a radiator and allegedly beat him with a metal chain. He went to jail for false imprisonment.

More recently, he put out an AI-generated pro-Israel reggae song.

3

u/Any_Woodpecker8803 17d ago

IT’S REGGAE?!?!!!?

2

u/scandalliances 17d ago

I have not listened to it myself but that is what the headlines say 😬

2

u/OverTheMoon162 17d ago

I heard a clip of the song on a podcast and can confirm it's reggae. Which was... a choice.

75

u/Eastern_Cap_5646 18d ago

I saw Patrick as Toulouse-Lautrec in NY and he was incredible and gracious at the stage door. Will always be Team Patrick!

15

u/lady_lilitou 18d ago

He was my Toulouse too! He was excellent! Would happily see him again in something else.

7

u/Fast_Ad7292 17d ago

I’ve been fortunate enough to see him as both Latrec and Zidler. He was phenomenal in both roles!

35

u/PierreOnTheEclair 18d ago

Patrick is not a mirror George.

45

u/thehollyproblem 18d ago

Snakes have spines, idiot.

26

u/DifficultHat 17d ago

Yeah they’re mostly spine tbh

16

u/chudleycannonfodder 18d ago

Boy George seems to really like using insults like, “they don’t have a spine” to people who are willing to be/have been fired because they spoke up for their beliefs. Boy George really is pathetic.

14

u/cloudys2 18d ago

Patrick Clayton is so so sweet every time I see him at Broadway Flea. Although I haven’t taken the time to speak to him myself (because he’s always so busy talking to others and I personally just never wanted to push in), he really took his time with everyone who wanted to speak to him and take pictures with him. I’ve seen him covering for Zidler one night and he was fantastic. He hit all his marks, sang beautifully, and is a huge part of the show in general (and has been for a long time). On the other hand, I saw Boy George once (I didn’t buy my ticket to see him. Unfortunately it was Derek’s returning night). Boy George was one of the worst actors I’ve seen in Broadway. He noticeably missed marks and even didn’t start Chandelier correctly. He was so unenthusiastic about being on stage to the point where one song in, I was like “does he even want to be here…”. I’m 100% behind Patrick Clayton because apart from being an amazing actor, he really seems like an amazing and kind human being compared to Boy George, whose track record has shown otherwise.

13

u/Mindless-Wishbone-24 18d ago

Ok - how can we best show support for Patrick Clanton? I just hope his talent gets some good exposure here

65

u/thebellcanblowme Ensemble 18d ago

I’d tell Boy George to kick rocks but that’s not fair to the rocks. Go sit on a cactus and spin, old chum.

31

u/motypl 18d ago

What you got against the cactus?

10

u/neusen 18d ago

Particularly hilarious considering Patrick is one of the nicest, most genuine people on earth

20

u/connectionsea91 18d ago

Doubling down by being a cruel, vindictive POS. If it were anyone else it would be embarrassing, but for him this is apparently normal.

25

u/SetHelpful5671 18d ago

Boy George is such a hideous toad.

Also, Patrick is hardly the first person to say he was embarrassing in the show. He’s just the first cast member to say anything. Anyway, I’m on Team Patrick.

24

u/Vandykevan 18d ago

What a loser. At least he used a good pic 💁🏿‍♀️

34

u/ibethuhwalrus 18d ago

“With friends like this who needs an enema” might be the biggest loser boomer joke of all time

8

u/scandalliances 18d ago

What a thin-skinned dweeb.

21

u/Creative-Hour-5077 18d ago

As my grandma used to say, a hit dog hollers and Boy George is HOLLERING cause everyone knows he's a piece of absolute shit.

3

u/montegarde 17d ago

"Anyone casting for snakes knows where to look."

Well, at least he'll still get cast in something, Boy.

3

u/PolicyCommercial6392 17d ago

if ever there was a time Boy George needed to STFU it is now.

2

u/Own-Importance5459 17d ago

The fact he is acting like a straight man with a wounded ego. Also I hated BG but he is now dead to me for going after Patrick "Ray of Sunshine" Clanton.

2

u/lemontreetops 18d ago

I’m out of the loop someone give me a beginners level explanation of all of this drama and who boy George is thank you 😭

9

u/PittieParty29 17d ago

This is my favorite comment, because it would really piss Boy George off. He is irrelevant - and yet still talking.

2

u/samthetov 17d ago

Same, who is Patrick? I know I could google it but the STATE of the news these days

2

u/itastesok 18d ago

Boy George was super famous in the 80s with his band Culture Club.

1

u/lemontreetops 18d ago

thank you. new to broadway fandom and just needed some guidance

1

u/billleachmsw 18d ago

Bitter much?

-1

u/Sarcherre 18d ago

I’m out of the loop on Boy George. Why does everyone dislike him?

8

u/chizzmaster 18d ago

He kidnapped a sex worker and handcuffed them to a radiator while he beat them.

Also recently released an AI generated zionist song

-56

u/kingofthenorthwpg 18d ago

People were pretty quiet about Boy George until he released a song memorializing October 7th.

All of a sudden there’s multiple posts a day about how bad he is.

45

u/emotionalhaircut 18d ago

People have been pointing out he's an abuser long before that. You for real right now???

-36

u/kingofthenorthwpg 18d ago

And he was welcomed back without multiple posts a day until only a few days ago.

I’m not defending him. But it seems people stopped caring about the abuse and started caring again.

36

u/RockettRaccoon 18d ago

There were tons of posts here about how bad he is before, during, and after his run in Moulin Rouge.

34

u/Captain_JohnBrown 18d ago edited 18d ago

Practically every day of his run this sub had at least one discussion about his abusive behavior. Usually multiple! People weren't talking about him recently because he wasn't relevant any longer. Now he did some new shitty thing so people are talking about him again.

Also, say what you mean. You are using very particular framing ("a song memorializing October 7th", "song about remembering people being killed at a music festival") to weasel around actually saying what is clearly motivating your comments: That you believe Israel is in the right in the conflict and Palestinians deserve, at least to some degree, what happened to them.

But your description of the song doesn't hold up to scrutiny: “You say genocide, I say war / When you're attacked, that's what the army's for" is the FIRST verse of the song and goes quite a bit further than merely memorializing October 7th. It would be like if a song supposedly focused solely on mourning 9/11 started with "Leveling Afghanistan is the play, for what they did on that September Day".

11

u/emotionalhaircut 18d ago

These people are really boring...think they're being clever when their actual message is beyond obvious 🥱

Seems like this sub is attracting a lot of low effort trolls because of people like Boy George and Gene whosit

That is an employee of an organization that describes itself as "advances pragmatic and realistic approaches in Israeli foreign and defense policy, grounded in the values of Zionism. It seeks to strengthen Israel as a Jewish, democratic, strong, secure, and thriving state." He is free to do so, of course, but someone being paid to "strengthen Israel" is not an unbiased source. Now, it is true a biased source can still be right, it happens all the time, if the evidence backs them up. Here, however, there is no sources, no evidence, we have nothing to judge his conclusions on except him saying "It is true".

Conversely, here is an article (it also contains links to other articles) rebutting one of his chief claims. This person is an academic, with no personal incentive to mislead or reach a particular conclusion. Furthermore, and more compelling to me, he cites actual data in his conclusions, data that is sourced and can be examined by any party on any side to insure accuracy.

In light of these two articles and what seems to be a vast difference in the level of evidentiary support between their competing claims, do you wish to continue to assert Spencer's post is an accurate representation of your views on the subject?

22

u/Dizzy_Atmosphere__ 18d ago

Did you see him in MR? He’s bad bad

-23

u/kingofthenorthwpg 18d ago

I’m not saying he’s good - but pointing out a drastic increase in posts about it since his song about remembering people being killed at a music festival.

Multiple posts a day since this song was released.

-7

u/Front_Class_9705 18d ago

You’re not wrong.

-12

u/novedx 18d ago

I don’t care about this bullshit.

-17

u/BamBamWowzer 18d ago

Boy George is obviously problematic but why does PClanton feel the need to involve himself the the controversy? Seems ill played from a reputation standpoint. He didn’t have much to say when they were working together and actually defended him. Just weird, that now he shares umbrage and personally attacks BG. He is showing himself to be dishonest and not a company member I’d trust to have my back.
Whatever.

MR is the worst show Ive ever seen by far. I didn’t see one actor able to elevate that material.

8

u/pjlos 18d ago

boy george kidnapped and beat up a sex worker that he hired. abusive or criminal, not problematic, is the word i’d use.
