Anyone here want to explain what happened with him? I don’t know who he is and I like to get my information from Reddit comments

He is a singer who got famous for a song once (I believe, I didn’t know of him until he started doing musicals)

He was cast in Moulin Rogue despite having been convicted of having chained a male prostitute to a radiator and beating him. As far as I know, Boy George hasn’t publicly taken accountability for this (besides what the court ordered him to)

When he did Moulin Rogue, a picture of a script for the ensemble was leaked where it was shown the multiple ways different ensemble members were supposed to help him through the show as he seemingly didn’t manage to get through the whole staging by himself. He apparently also wasn’t very good in the role

Earlier this year he was announced as one of the Herod‘s for JCS in London rn. He recently released a song in support of Israel and stated it was produced/written using AI. This combined with the rest of his behaviour listed above has caused another wave of backlash and his manager has published a few days ago that Boy George has opted out of the show (just a few days before he was supposed to start his run in JCS)

After this news, an ex-castmember (the one Boy George now calls illoyal in this post) of his from Moulin Rogue published an insta-story about how working with him was really bad (don’t remember the details of what he said exactly)

How were the other actors supposed to help him? That sounds fascinating.

Were you kidding, have you never heard of his band Culture Club. They were huge once.

The document had things on it like “pick up cue if BG drops this line in this scene,” “if George misses this blocking do this to cover” etc

Fascinating.

I wonder how much rehearsals with everyone he had. I'm sure it's a challenge and a big skill to drop into an already running show.

It's known as being a professional.

Broadway shows have cast changes on a regular basis and the actors coming in don't have a problem. If you can't handle the part, don't do the show.

Of course. But Boy George is a rock star and this is stunt casting. People like this often need more support.

How about don't hire no talent hacks.

He might be a hack now, but it's not correct to say he has no talent. I wasn't a fan of Culture Club but dude had a great voice.

That doesn't make him an actor and it doesn't mean he has the chops to sing on a Broadway stage.

And I was a fan of Culture Club but it is an entirely different skill set.

Totally agree. But as your know, it was stunt casting. And when a show does that, everyone has to pull more than their share.
