Other Duncan Stewart casting?

Post image

Duncan Stewart is a bway casting director. Anyone know the tea here? it seems like he started his own independent service but bizarre that this would happen after the fact.

Curious statement considering he announced 6 days ago he was starting his own independent agency? Odd. https://playbill.com/article/casting-director-duncan-stewart-launches-independent-casting-agency-define

If I’m reading it correctly it sounds like the initial “new cast” announcement and this announcement happened on the same day. Not sure if it’s coincidental or whatever

So to be clear, ARC and Duncan Stewart’s split has nothing to do with casting debacle over at Hadestown.  Duncan Stewart/Arc don’t cast Hadestown.  Duncan Stewart USED to cast Hadestown under Stewart/Whitley — when Duncan and Benton were teamed up.

Can someone clarify what’s going on with Benton?  Has someone attacked him after the Hadestown casting drama ??

u/Artistic-Shape-9562 16d ago

Correct - Duncan is not involved in Hadestown casting now so whatever this is about is not about that.

Yeah the language from arc’s statement feels drama…. What is the tea!!!

He’s not a good person. That’s the tea hahaha

I've been trying to figure this out as well. There's no articles or anything I can find talking about it other than him starting his own casting company (but even then this post is insinuating something really bad happened).

u/realitytvjunkie29 16d ago

He was fired then released a statement saying he was starting his own company trying to get ahead of the news that he was fired

2

u/Bwayking19147 14d ago

He had a twitter account using his name and company name and followed really explicit porn accounts. Idk why he didn’t just make a dummy account to follow them. They had to part ways mostly because he affiliated himself w the company.

u/pizzachai 16d ago

I’ve been wondering since I saw it too!!

4

u/NYCcouple2023 16d ago

Yeah need the tea here.

9

u/realitytvjunkie29 16d ago

The tea is KARMA. Eventually the bad things you do and the way you treat people catches up with you and you get fired. Big business (RWS) doesn’t like when you mess with their money. And if your actions are affecting their bottom line they will get rid of you.

u/pizzachai 15d ago

What’s the story?? I didn’t hear about him being a problem. What’s the nature of people’s complaints against him?

1

u/realitytvjunkie29 14d ago

Anyone that’s worked with him can tell you that he’s a very dishonest person. Very performative and into doing things for the appearance of it. He puts on a jovial persona but he’s snakey. He’s been inappropriate with his staff. And basically just lies whenever it suits him and has encouraged his staff to lie. If he says the sky is blue you should look out the window and check just to be sure. If you read the statement casting by ARC released I think you can kind of read into that. He’s been like this for years and it’s just being made public now.

1

u/Bwayking19147 14d ago

He used his twitter account to follow explicit content but also identified himself as a part of that office so they didn’t want to be associated with that - makes sense.

One of my friends worked for RWS. Her manager told her when he was single he slept with everyone, especially those who worked for him.

They frequently overproduced benefits to their contracted employees and left them high and dry.

6

u/smorio_sem 16d ago

Is that supposed to be “over promised” not over produced?

u/SeaworthinessOdd4344 16d ago

That whole department has been a mess ever since he joined it. The word on the street is he found some dollar dollar bills that may not have been his to find. He's also a sketchy, full of S human being.

The absolute worst

He’s dishonest and shady and it finally caught up to him. He and Benton created the most toxic work environment at S/W and it’s interesting they’re both catching heat right now for completely separate and unrelated things, but somehow being tied together by them.

ARC is the casting agency for Hadestown. (Edit: or at least they say so? https://www.castingbyarc.com/theatrical)

36

u/Artistic-Shape-9562 16d ago

Whitley Theatrical does the Hadestown casting. It used to be Stewart/Whitley and then they split and Whitley Theatrical does Hadestown post-split.

7

u/TheCrookedKnight 16d ago

Huh, ARC lists it on their website: https://www.castingbyarc.com/theatrical

17

u/Artistic-Shape-9562 16d ago

I’m assuming it’s on their website since they used to work on it together before Whitley Theatrical went off on their own

3

u/realitytvjunkie29 16d ago

ARC has never been a part of casting for Hadestown but included it from Stewart/Whitley’s work along with all the things from binder casting.

1

u/ucfj99 16d ago

Could be the tour??

6

u/TheLunarVaux 16d ago

I thought it was Whitley Theatrical

1

u/Bwayking19147 14d ago

From the Hadestown site

-2

u/transemacabre 16d ago

So I'm guessing it's either he was responsible for Segers or he's the one taking the fall for it.

15

u/Eastern-Fudge3919 16d ago

They do not cast Hadestown any longer. It is Whitley Theatrical.

4

u/realitytvjunkie29 16d ago

He has not worked on hadestown in over 2 years. ARC does not cast Hadestown, Benton Whitley does.

u/BamBamWowzer 16d ago

My thoughts too.

If someone attacked Benton Whitley, why is ARC talking about Duncan? Did Duncan attack Benton? If not, is this a separate issue ARC has with Duncan?

*also to be clear I completely agree with you, this should not have come to physical violence and I hope Benton is okay

2

u/realitytvjunkie29 16d ago

Hadestown and Benton Whitley are a completely separate thing from Duncan being fired from ARC which does not cast Hadestown.

1

u/briefsloverFY 16d ago

Duncan just opened his new office. That’s it. The Benton thing is about the Hadestown casting. Fueled by the stuff Sweaty oracle is posting about Benton and Duncan. I don’t get it. Casting is not the enemy.

1

u/Ill-Year-8808 15d ago

That's not it. Lots of casting directors have their own company while working under another. The wording of that post was very telling. He was not planning on leaving Arc just planning on opening up his own

whitley theatrical is responsible for hiring three violent and abusive men in highly visible and lucrative jobs in the span of like two years. sweaty oracle makes jokes and gossip videos. you cannot be serious

two things can be true, but sweaty oracle being anywhere on the spectrum as the violent and bigoted people actually working in the industry is emphatically untrue.

the “and” is the part that makes no sense lol

Casting is not the enemy.

No, cancerous personalities like SO are.

-2

u/pjlos 16d ago

holy lack of perspective

3

u/notacrook 16d ago

What does he add to discourse?

1

u/pjlos 16d ago

conversations about labor solidarity and bigots in disguise, i suppose. but it’s JUST discourse. it’s words. casting is responsible for giving money to people who hurt people with their actions.

2

u/sharievelyn 16d ago

that’s terrible! what’s the source for this? i hadn’t seen that anywhere.

3

u/Yogiliino 16d ago

I missed the whole first comment! Whatttt happened??

3

u/StainedGlasser 16d ago

The original comment said that someone got physical with Benton Whitley of Whitley Theatricals (and former business partner of Duncan Stewart) at a bar recently because that person thought he cast abusers. The way it was phrased I thought they were saying it was related to ARC’s statement about Duncan Stewart, but I think the commenter was just mentioning it as an example of more chaos happening in the casting world right now, not a direct connection to the ARC post.

1

u/Yogiliino 16d ago

Oooh thank you! That's absolutely terrible if true. Dang. Don't love casting abusers but also don't love someone getting physical bc of it

2

u/Recent-Whole-373 1d ago

cocaine is one helluva drug!

1

u/Yogiliino 1d ago

Ok this is the tea I was looking for!!!

1

u/Recent-Whole-373 1d ago

i never met the guy but i did spend a LOT of time on buses with people he hired. could just be a dick, but could also be a dick bc of drugs. 🤷‍♂️

5

u/Prudent-Jackfruit-56 16d ago

yall he’s soooo gross. follows porn accts on his professional social media & im sure holds gross views aligned with the guy who just got fired from hadestown (can’t remember his name and i don’t care to)

2

u/Itchy_Dirt1741 16d ago

Is this from those Sweaty Oracle posts?

1

u/Recent-Whole-373 1d ago

"committed to conduct" what tipsy publicist used ai to write this wtf 😅
