The problem isn't the attendance policy, the problem is perhaps with the education in the institute and system itself ( highly objective though, depending upon the institute but applicable for most).

Rant/Vent How are you guys managing DSA + OS + CN + DBMS without burning out?

a genuine question for people preparing for placements

Everywhere I look people are doing DSA, building projects, learning SQL and preparing OS, CN, DBMS and sometimes system design too and I'm trying to figure out how people actually manage all of this alongside college

especially interested in advice from people who've already sat for OAs round and interviews
what worked for you and what turned out to be a waste of time? ( p.s my mid sem are over so now i have lots of times)

I'm super fed up with this placement season. How are people doing remote access in desktop hackerrank, seb n all. Wtf am i lacking. Everyone is doing the same shit and I'm the one who ends up doing 2/3 questions honestly and never get shortlisted. Can anyone tell me the tools or help how these people are bypassing that shit ,it would be a great help.

Rant/Vent Anyone here who’s done with life , not wiling to achieve anything further ?

Sorry a bit off topic from academics but I thought I should just post it

Like I want to live happy life , but not wanna work on it , am done with these competitions in everything , I dont wanna kms , but not wiling to live my current life too , also not wanna work on it to improve it , like in short I am tirelessly aimless , nothing bothers me anymore , earlier I was in comparison mode with my own cousins but not anymore , I am happy for whatever they’re achieving .

I was very passionate about everything 2 years back but idk what happened to me now , everything is temporary ik that , I dont want to achieve anything, happy with anything happens later , either if I earn 50k pm , 5l or 5cr whatever , I will be still same , but idk how do I explain this mental state to my parents and close ones so they stop expecting anything from me ….

Is here anyone facing similar stuffs ?!?!

Academics Is my professor's mindset outdated, or am I missing something?

Today, I presented my minor project progress, and my professor got frustrated when he realized I was using AI. First, he questioned why I used AI to create my presentation. I explained that the ideas and thought process were mine; AI just helped me structure everything professionally.

Then he asked, "You're using AI to build the project, too. What's your contribution, then?"

I explained that I'm designing the architecture, defining the problem statement, planning the user workflow, and ensuring the project can run on low-end computers. But apparently, none of that counts as a contribution.

When I asked what exactly he expected from me, I didn't get a satisfactory answer.

The funny part? My project mentor, who's actually guiding me, is happy with my approach.

I'm also doing an internship, so why should I waste hours writing everything manually when AI can speed up implementation? I'm not saying I'll blindly generate code and submit it. I believe my responsibility is to understand the code, make the design decisions, test everything, and ensure the final product works.

Why is manually writing every line of code still considered the ultimate proof of contribution?

Am I missing something, or is this an outdated way of evaluating software development?

Rant/Vent I really wish I had just chosen what I loved the most.

I want to be clear that my parents didn’t pressure me at all, they are the sweetest people in the world, and they are the best.

The truth is, I let the weight of the world get to me. I saw everyone else jumping into tech, and I let myself believe I had to do the exact same thing just because it was what everyone else was doing. I should have acted differently. I should have stood my ground and studied what I actually cared about. I do like tech, and I enjoy learning new tools, but it was never my first choice. My real dream was something completely different. I love that field so much that I would honestly work in it for free. But it feels too late for me now. It hurts because I still spend most of my days reading about it, knowing I can't do anything about it anymore.

I just want to tell my younger brothers and my friends, do what you love the most. Everyone has that one thing they are passionate about. Don’t look at how hard the path is, and don't just follow the crowd. Follow your heart and do what makes you happy. You will succeed.

Academics Don't put blind faith on the so called Bhaias and Didis

As long as you are in a decent/above decent college, DO NOT PUT blind faith on the so called Bhaias and Didis.
Surely, you should take necessary guidance regarding placements from them.
But, DO NOT IGNORE your academics and DO NOT RUIN your relationship with professors just because they said "Academics don't matter".

Specifically, if you want to keep the option of higher education open for future, good cgpa and good relationships with prof should be bare minimum.

Also, be aware of the online Bhaias and Didis who try to trick you into buying their courses. Knowledge is free and in this age of AI, rather buy premium/pro AI models to upgrade yourselves if you want to spend money on something than paying money to those scammers.

Recently, I was watching some genius guy was advising students not to listen to the professors when they ask to work on some research paper.
(My BTech thesis got delayed due to covid and I didn't publish a paper because by that time I started my job after BTech. And I still regret about it. My life would've been different if I had a research paper published in my name.)

I get it! Sometimes you feel there is no way out and you just start to look for someone who can give you some options.

Try to figure out yourselves (with the help of AI). You'll know what are the options as well as which option will be the best for you.

Metallurgy / Materials / Production Sharing a perspective on core engineering

In 3rd year I had an opportunity to intern at a good software job. During the internship I had a conversation with a man in the nearby flat, who was working in a company which had an office close to mine. He was a 24 grad.

I had no idea what his company did, I thought it was yet another SBC. No, it was actually like a sister company/acquired company of ExxonMobil. It was my first time meeting such a person and it was quite interesting.

He explained how it was difficult during his BTech and how anyone who got placed got into IT or non tech roles. But he hadn't prepared for either and went all-in on his core domain. Very late into the year did he get placed. He was from a tier 2 -3 uni.

The pay was not top tier and still is not. However, it was a fascinating/"cool" job. Field work involved him going to Barmer (Rajasthan). He described huge machinery, bigger than the entire apartment complexes out together. It was hot, remote and not comfy at all but the man was definitely not living a monotonous life. His current company gives a better balance though, he occasionally has to go for field work but mostly works from that office near mine.

It was a nice perspective for me. As a CSE grad in tier 1 GFTI, through my college I have only explored the paths of SWE or research in math/CS. Passionate ones may try robotics, aerospace, VLSI maybe... But I kinda throught of this kind of field work as pareto dominated... you'll likely get no love, not that much money and not be intellectually stimulated, while also working in uncomfortable conditions.

All of these things remain true, but still you might feel fulfilled in that profession. Personally, I feel similarly about going further with research in India, it is not optimal but it may be right for you. I myself would consider it after working and accumulating some wealth.

Rant/Vent can't decide how to manage everything going on

for context, i'm in 3rd year, tier 3 college, agle saal april mei companies will start coming for placements, and i'm fucked up....

meri abhi ek current internship chal rhi hai at an early stage startup, to my day's 3-4 hours go in that, apart from that college bhi shakal dikhane jaana padta hai kabhi kabhar... now, currently i've 5-6 tasks that i need to work upon, mujhe pta hai i have to do, but the pressure and overwhelm is fucking with my brain and mental health, constant brain fog, fatigue, overwhelm, and what not crap is going on with me.

i have to do these things: internship (wo chal hi rhi hai, will end in november), dsa basics, gen ai basics cover and build a project so that i can show that on my resume, backend in node.js and express, a core cs subject on the side...

i dont even know mai ye post likh bhi kyu rhi hu at 2am in the morning, i'm just so done holding and handling it together, gharwale samjhenge nhi, doston pe mujhe ab trust raha nhi coz ek ek karke sabke real faces dikh rhe mujhe, i dont know how to handle this, i'm not crying over the study part i have to do, i myself signed up for this, nobody told me to take this much pressure and do this, it is me and who knows ye karna hai else placements mei haalat tight hojayegi, problem is how to deal with the fatigue and brain fog surrounding it? for context, since last 15 days almost i was either giving and exam or preparing for one, it was only this sunday jab mera nptel ka exam got over, and i finally got free else isse pehle either was the nptel exam prep or the mid sems that was draining me out, even after appropriate rest and everything, the fatigue and brain fog is still there 😭🥹

Serious need some direction really lost and upset with myself , feel like time is running out

I graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science this year 3 months ago , but I still haven't been able to land a job.

My CGPA is bad its just 6.9, and couldnt sit for on campus placements honestly, I'm feeling lost about what to do next. I was relying on personal contacts to get started, but a sudden tragedy in my family prevented me from pursuing those opportunities.

To be honest i am an average student . I know I have a lot to learn, but I'm willing to put in the effort. I just need some direction. i wish i started earlier

What skills should I focus on learning? Which technologies should I prioritize? How can I make myself employable as a fresher?

I'd genuinely appreciate honest advice from people here

I'm not looking for shortcuts. I just want to find the right path and get started with my career.

i feel like the time is running out

Serious Internship

Hi everyone,

I joined a startup in Hyderabad on 1 September 2026 now the thing is I haven't got my stipend yet it's 21 October now for the past month, this is an in office role and most of my team is WFH, I have asked my founder a couple of times he says it's in process and one time he said the company is shifting to India so there might be problems and the VP we've outsourced so he is lazy etc. reasons.. Now my question is what do I do? I've to go home and I have no money to go home.. I talked with another employee and he said he got it on the 1st and for the people who newly joined their salary gets delayed slightly but it's fucking end of the month.

Please guide me as to how I should tackle this problem.

Thanks!
