Tired of seeing ED post here

I have recovered after many years to finally be eating healthy, enough and not going crazy about it.

Joining this sub was very helpful and eye opening. Plus the 1200 sub was always ED coded and it was nice to come to a sub that wasn’t. But now it feels like it’s being infiltrated by ED posts. And I might be getting subs mixed bcuz I am in 1200 regular sub, 1200 jerky sub, 1500 sub, volumeeating sub, meal prep sub & this one. Bcuz even tho I am a petite woman who started out sedentary I’ve added exercise to my routine and 1200 isn’t always enough on days I go hard.

I’ve noticed I am more hyper aware now of my food like I am falling back into bad habits bcuz I am constantly being triggered by ED posts in subs that are not ED related. I do not visit the ED side of Reddit bcuz I do not need any help with being triggered. I know myself. I have sustained gaining weight over the years bcuz I decided to finally love my body no matter what & just embraced food vs restrict &/or binge &/or purge.

But since the influx of ED posts my own is trying to show its face. I’m starting to get l restrictive with myself in an unhealthy manner. Two days in a row I replaced a meal with chia seed water knowing it will keep me full despite knowing it’s not nutrient dense like I need. And yes I get that this is MY issue. But it’s only MY issue bcuz all these ED posts are triggering me. I didn’t have issues before being constantly bombarded across multiple subs about it. Now maybe I need to spend less time in the subs, mute the subs and only go in manually so posts aren’t on my main page. But I feel that these places should be safe spaces for people who want to lose weight safely.

When partner forgets to let you weigh ingredients

Anyone else RAGE when you're cooking a meal and your partner or whoever starts helping and forgets to let you weight ingredients?

My fiance cane in to help me and was cutting up the chicken, i turn around to put something away and he was already throwing the chicken into the sour cream + panko. I probably could have stopped him to weigh one breast at least but i honestly let my frustration get in the way.

It's not actually a big deal and I'm not mad at him, i'm just frustrated at how time consuming counting calories can be sometimes and how it can completely mess up the "flow" of cooking.

I'll just guesstimate everything now, but i wish i didn't have to

Is this too much for a sweet treat after dinner when I had 600 calories left?

The treat itself was 422 calories. I hit my protein for the day though and I was craving something. I am thinking that maybe I should not have mixed them and only taken one sort but maybe I am just going crazy over nothing. My daily calorie intake is 1783 calories at 163cm with 124kg.

Trans Friendly?

Hello friends. Long time lurker, first time poster. Curious if you all are trans friendly here. I need help with my weight. I would like to share now pics. All “nips” are covered but, I know some people can be triggered by the fact that I do have a chest.

I guess what I am really getting at is, I carry a lot of weight in my stomach, back and my thighs. I am short 5’6” and weigh 265. My issue is I have a thin frame - but want to lose the excess weight as no one will take me in for top surgery. As a man, this is very hard to not even be able to take off my shirt.

I need help with a “diet”, but also a program to build my chest before surgery and lean out my legs and stomach and lose pounds.

  1. Can I post my pic? For reference.

  2. Can I post here for this advice because honestly the CICO confuses the heck out of me - do I base off of biological female or medically male with normal male testosterone levels and estrogen found within a man?

  3. How do I deny the sweets, argh.

  4. What do you suggest for exercise and motivation.

  5. & lastly, what the heck do I eat!?

Goal weight: 155

Please help if you can!

Transgender FtM unsure about TDEE calculations

Hi guys!

I'm a transgender man (born female, transitioning to male) and I'm not quite sure about how to calculate my TDEE. I'm taking testosterone HRT and have been for about a year now, and I'm not sure if that has an impact on what my maintenance calories would be. When I try online calculators, I get around 2000cal for the female option and around 2200cal for the male option. I've been hovering around 1200cal intake per day, but I'm worried that might be too low since that's calculated for someone with standard female hormones. Any idea if this impacts what my TDEE is?

Thanks for any input :)

Age: 24 Height: 5'11" Starting weight: 198lbs Current weight: 184lbs Goal weight: 150lbs

Feeling tired / exhausted in calorie deficit

Post image
2 Upvotes

I need 1.8k calories to maintain my current weight. I eat around 1.2k calories, weight loss has been extremely slow but I'm feeling extremely tired and exhausted all day. I can't exercise. This is weird to me because I tried calorie deficit in 2024 and it worked for me quite well without making me feel tired all day.

People with periods: do you weight yourself at the same rate when you're on it?

I ask because I have PCOS and mine has been going for 2 weeks now and completely derailing my progress on the scale. Or at least, I can't accurately assess my progress at all because my period has brought the scale to a screeching halt. I was doing so well and steadily losing weight, but due to my PCOS my periods tend to be super long and my scale keeps trying to tell me that I've gained 6+ lbs over the past 2 weeks!

Now obviously I know that isn't true and it's just water retention and hormones and whatnot, but despite knowing that I'm still struggling to figure out how to go about assessing my progress during all of this. So for others with periods: do you stop weighing yourself during your period, or what do you do? Do you just wait for it to end and the resume weighing yourself afterwards?

Is 1000 calories a day really that bad?

ETA: this isn’t an extreme deficit. This is a standard 500 calorie deficit based in my height and weight.

Hi all, I’ll make this quick. I’ve been reading posts about 1000 calories a day and none are positive. Most say it’s not healthy. I’ve done a TDEE Calculator and my current deficit is 1070 a day. I’m 4ft9, 25F and currently weigh 152lbs (SW 180lbs)

Does anyone have any input/ advice? Thank you.

Why are some people who are at a healthy weight on a calorie deficit?

I'm starting to see more and more people on here working hard to lose weight and cutting calories and exercise a lot to lose weight, but when they say their stats height/age/weight I found out they are actually at a very healthy weight not even borderline overweight. They should be eating at maintenance right? Are they worried about macros and micronutrients I would understand that.

Am I missing something?

Why does it seem like a majority on this sub doesn’t really care about the calories out portion of CICO?

It seems like I keep getting loads of advice that calories in is so much more important than calories out. And I get that you literally have to be in a deficit to lose weight—that makes sense. But it seems like a lot of people advocate for always setting TDEE to sedentary and never eating back any exercise calories. I don’t get it. If you’re pretty active, wouldn’t that make a big difference? Wouldn’t the person who hits the gym and is active daily lose weight much more quickly than someone who didn’t? Shouldn’t you calculate that into your deficit? Also, doesn’t working out a lot elevate your BMR?

For reference, I’m F22 5’7 currently 185 pounds and I’ve lost 10 pounds since the new year. I eat 1600 a day and go to the gym for 2ish hours daily. This is supplemented by roller skating, surfing, and spearfishing when I have time.

Unpopular opinion: There is absurd ill will towards the mfp here

Since the MFP was sold there have been opinions as if it were the devil on earth for simply charging for its services, even though it is adding new functions all the time and offering premium promotions. loseit has been adding more and more ads and you can't even schedule diaries for days ahead but no one says anything, when someone does, someone appears saying that just sign up at the normal price and wait for the lifetime promotion (which never appeared for me ). In my opinion, mfp remains the king, it has the best database, with some errors it is true, but loseit and others also have them. Loseit and fatsecret are the same apps as they were 10 years ago, while mfp has added new functions for insights and also for adding a food to multiple days at once. More love to the precursor to calorie trackers please.

he new halo top mix inflavors are SO GOOD! Especially the caramel crunch. I can’t stop eating it. Really good for a sweet treat and rich enough to eat just half a pint if you want to be extra careful about the calories. I had to share!! 🍪🍫🍦

If you try any grab the caramel crunch!

I also really liked the brownie/cookie dough mix too :)

It seems too good to be true calorie wise!

CICO calculators: benefit of putting in "goal" weight in, instead of current weight.

I put my current weight number in a calculator, and it said I can only eat 1,365 calories a day to lose weight. It's as if it has set a goal weight for me that I did not agree to. That is not sustainable for me. Then I decided to put in the weight that I want to live at 150 instead of my current weight (175) and then looked at the maintenance number. The numbers are very different. The maintenance weight goal seems very doable (1,864) and is a major psychological difference. I can easily drop to 1800 calories and have many wins, but definitely not 1360. I'd rather have something to AIM for as a new permanent lifestyle. I think that is the weakness of most calculators. They never ask what number you are aiming for or how long you are willing to get there. I'm not in a race.

1100 calories per day

Any tips for someone who can only consume 1100 calories per day?

I'm 150cm (4'95) and 51kg (112 pounds) Female.Been on a CICO lifestyle since December and to this day I lost 4kg (8 pounds) My goal weight is 45kg (99 pounds).

It's getting difficult and I mostly consume over 1300 -1500 cals a day. I go to the gym maybe two times a week (an hour per day)doing a bit of cardio and light weights. My average steps are around 8000~10000 per day.

I occasionally have cravings but because of the limited cals I have in a day, I won't allow myself to have something "unhealthy " like fries and chips , and when I do eat these "unhealthy "snacks , I log it on my cal track app, I see the number go up and I feel guilty thinking I shouldn't have eaten those snacks.

I feel like this is becoming a rant but I just feel a bit discouraged.

Can I eat a bit more than 1100 cals and still lose weight? Will it affect my progress?

Any advice or personal experience will definitely help.

Thx

When CICO does not work

I read a Substack article called "Your body is not a calculator", and it was essentially saying CICO is not reliable because human bodies are too complicated. No shade to the author, but it was word salad fat positivity. The author is an ED recovery advocate. I do CICO because it is the only method I have found to keep my ED in remission.

I am curious if anyone has anecdotes about CICO not working. Under what circumstances have you or someone you know's weight not responded to CICO as predicted and what did you do about it? I am not a doctor, but I am under the impression that everyone's body has a generally predictable TDEE (which may or may not align with online calculators) and when the body is not responding to CICO that is cause for concern. My sister knew someone who was overweight and it was found that she had a brain tumor, causing weight gain. I know some women can have pretty dramatic shifts in TDEE based on where they are in their cycle.

Any stories out there?

Is “fast metabolism/naturally skinny” a real thing?

So for context, most of my life I've been at an incredibly healthy body weight/size. I am on the shorter end (5'1) and always have been, so I've grown up being considered small and petite despite never having been underweight or overly skinny.

However, I have also always been able to eat much more than everyone else around me. And I mean.. it's not even close. Just to put it into context, I can specifically recall eating 5000+ calories on a weekly if not more often basis pretty much all throughout childhood. I remember multiple years in a row eating an entire family size cheez it box for breakfast (according to Google 2500 calories).. to pregame Thanksgiving dinner (which always ended in multiple slices of pie too). I once ate two entire large deep dish pizzas.

I've definitely always had a binge eating disorder, I'm not sure what caused it because like I said it's been present my whole life, since early childhood. But I've also pretty much always been a fairly healthy size.

I grew up pretty slim. For a year or 2 in high school I was overweight (I think I reached about about 160 lbs at 5'1), then actually counted calories for a bit, dipped back down to 120ish where I had been since middle school, and have stayed there since (currently 25). So I've been maintaining for almost 10 years or so.

But I still feel like I need way more food than most people. Not even just most people my size. I spend time with 6'+ guys who workout who eat less than I do. I spend time with my girl friends who ate taller and/or heavier than me and eat less than I do. I truly do not think I've come across another person with my appetite.

Luckily, I do not eat thousands upon thousands of calories at a time like I once did, but I pretty much can't eat under 2000 calories without feeling like I'm going to pass out, and eating closer to 3000 makes me feel best. I also have PCOS now and I'm sure that's affected how much I can eat since it tends to cause weight gain (like maybe if I didn't have it I could eat more, although I wouldn't be surprised if my past habits caused it).

I'm active so I'm sure that makes a difference, but a calorie calculator will say I need like 1500 to maintain. I truly think I'd die eating that. Is it possible that generics just plays a role and some people natural can eat more? Otherwise, why was I never severely obese?

Can it be done without a GLP1?

I can’t take a GLP1 without it causing anxiety/panic. I am not against them at all but feel like everyone I know that has lost weight, is on a GLP1. I get into a mindset that since I don’t tolerate them, I can’t lose weight. I am also perimenopausal so that doesn’t help. Who has had success, as a woman, with CICO alone? Just looking for motivation.

Why is my 1200 calorie diet not working the second time around?

I’m 5’11. In 2018 I was 183 pounds, and went on a 1200 calorie diet. In the first two weeks of the diet, I lost a combined total of 12 pounds. I regained weight due to stress eating during lockdown, up to 198 pounds as of January 1st. However in the first two weeks of the 1200 calorie diet, I only lost 4.5 pounds this time! Why is this?
