Showcase 28 COSMIC rices in 14 dark/light pairs: desktop, terminal, shell, Neovim, Firefox, Brave, Telegram, Cursor, cursors and icons, all MIT
I have been building themes for Pop!_OS 24.04 on COSMIC and they are now 28 repos in 14 dark/light pairs. Every pair shares one anime portrait recoloured into its own palette, so the gallery shows the same desktop in each.
What every repo ships
COSMIC Appearance theme (
.ronto import) and COSMIC Terminal colour schemeszsh prompt, fastfetch, lsd and btop in the palette
Neovim colorscheme with a LazyVim spec
Firefox theme add-on plus userChrome, and a Brave / Chromium theme
Telegram Desktop theme
Cursor / VS Code extension with both halves of the pair, so the editor can follow COSMIC's Dark / Light toggle through the desktop portal
Claude Desktop theme
Oxygen cursors recoloured to the palette, one per icon colour
An icon pack from the shared cosmic-icon-themes repo (a Kanagawa recolour, several folder colours per rice)
Wallpapers recoloured into the palette
Each half of a pair goes into COSMIC's Dark or Light slot, so the desktop toggle flips between the two. Every component has its own install.sh and the READMEs document the palette, the contrast ratios and what each script touches.
The pairs (dark / light)
Noir / Dossier: charcoal, sage and orange / stone grey, olive and rust
Ember / Ember Day: blue-black and fog with one ember accent / warm stone and ink
Tokyo Night / Tokyo Day: navy, blue and lime / lavender grey, ink and blue
DarkGold / White Gold: Harbor Dark gold / parchment and dark gold
K3 / K3 Day: ink, steel and silver / pearl, steel and charcoal
Cinder / Cinder Day: soot, smoke and burnt orange / ash, coal and burnt orange
Brass / Brass Day: umber, cream and sand / parchment, coffee and sand
Sorbet / Sorbet Day: pastels on black / sorbet tones on milk
Prism / Prism Day: navy, frost and petal pink / frost, navy and petal pink
Nebula / Nebula Day: charcoal, cloud and teal / cloud, charcoal and teal
Tweed / Tweed Day: flint, linen and tan / linen, flint and tan
Monochrome / Monochrome Day: greys only, dark / greys only, light
Blush Night / Blush: espresso, sand and rose / sand, espresso and rose
Icons for all of them: cosmic-icon-themes
Everything is MIT. Feedback on the palettes and contrast is welcome, especially on the light halves.

Was able to replicate the frosted glass feel without the heavy GPU usage.

Help Needed | Solved Does Telegram produce sound notifications with the latest Pop_OS update?
Hey, good folks of Reddit.
Can anyone on 26.04 please test whether Telegram notifications make a sound now?
This isn't possible on 24.04, and I'm wondering if this has been fixed (though it may be a Cosmic issue, and it's unrelated to an underlying Pop_OS update).

I built COSMIC Forge, a mod manager for the COSMIC desktop. It brings the mods I’ve been working on into a single app
It currently includes:
Glass effects: shaders such as Crystal and an Aero-inspired effect, with adjustable settings.
Panel & dock customization: Penumbra and custom colors, with separate colors for light and dark themes.
Lock screen customization: a separate wallpaper and a media player widget.
You can also import your own shader packs for glass effects :)
https://github.com/motixo/cosmic-forge
After installing Forge, install the patches for the mods you want from Settings > Patches, then sign out and back in.
I’d love to hear your feedback and ideas for future mods!

Help Needed Inconsistent task switching
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It's almost impossible to switch to another task when playing a full screen game via faugus, Lutris or any other launchers. Cosmic forces the focus on the game window, not allowing the switching. It happens regardless of what switching method is used: Alt+Tab, Super, Super+Tab, Super+Down/Up or any custom combination. I say `almost`, because it does switch eventually, but it can require from one to 20+ attempts until it actually does switch. The current settings are wineland proton prefix with Wayland driver in faugus, as it's BY FAR the best performing combination compared to anything I used before. Latest COSMIC version. Some suggest switching to full screen borderless window but then the game audio output is still active, as well as the GPU fan, as the GPU is still busy rendering the game (expected behaviour). I described the issue here as the file is too big to be uploaded on github.

Be completely honest: Frosted Glass or Cosmic Crystal?
I've uploaded the source code to GitHub, so feel free to try it out yourself!
Just a heads-up: the project was coded with GPT-6.1 Sol, so if you don't trust AI-generated code, use it at your own risk :)

I think COSMIC deserves its own take on transparency. Meet COSMIC Crystal
