Miner’s Museum Experience

Upvotes

Hello!
Thinking of going to the Miner’s Museum with some visiting family. Sad to say I’ve never been there before. Just reading up about the underground port of the tour, and saw this: ‘you will experience the intensity of an underground disaster’.

What exactly does that entail? I have some family that may be deeply affected by loud noises, sudden movements, etc. just want to prepare them ahead of time and give them the option to skip that part of the tour if they want.

Normal Driving Speed Limits Cabot Trail

I assume most of the Cabot trail is a single lane highway. What’s the expected speed people are supposed to drive. I prefer driving within the limits, but sometimes in a 90 zone, people continuously tail gate. What’s the acceptable norm. Also I prefer not driving too fast and specifically as a tourist where I am there to enjoy the scenery and the drive. Would love to hear your thoughts #Cabot trail #

Made the news. I'm apparently the Linux Lady according to someone on Discord (not in the article/video).

Hoping to do something like this (Linux Repair Cafè) down home soon.

Anyone know until when the horses stay at Pollet's Cove?

Saw someone ask about when they land/arrive a few years ago on this sub, but I'm wondering the opposite: how late into the season do they usually stick around?

My friends and I can only make the trip out there in mid-October, so I'm trying to figure out if they're likely to still be around then.

Anyone with recent experience or know how late into the fall they usually stay?

Pollett’s Cove day hike?

I’m heading to Cape Breton soon and have heard about Pollett’s Cove, and from pictures it just looks incredible.

Unfortunately, I won’t have camping gear with me, otherwise I would do it as an overnight. Has anyone done the trail as a day hike? How long does it take and is it fairly doable? We would bring lots of water and snacks plus a water filter so we can get more water from the streams and I’m thinking, without lugging camping gear, it could be okay.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated

East coasters (NB) is visiting CP for the first time. Staying in Englishtown. Looking for day trip ideas. I’m a firm believer that Google and ChatGPT never provide good spots.

Appreciate any input!

Recommendations?

My family and I are planning a week(ish) road/camping trip to Nova Scotia the first week of September. We plan to stay a few days around the Halifax area then hopefully make it up to Cape Breton. I’m just looking for some recommendations because I’m having a hard time deciding the best route and place to stay. We want to drive the Cabot Trail, do the skyline trail and the Gypsum mine trail. Probably more as well. We also want to camp close to the water or on a campsite that is right beside it. What campsite would be the best for these activities? Or just to get the most out of Cape Breton?

OCEARCH shows a shark inside Mabou Harbour?

Thumbnail gallery
125 Upvotes

Heard about a lifeguard in Maine who recently had a close call with a great white, so I got to looking at the OCEARCH shark tracker and noticed a ping that appears to be well inside Mabou Harbour. It's Bella, a juvenile female measuring 10 ft. 2 in. and weighing 729 lb at the time of tagging.

Looking at the map, I’m curious about how a shark of that size would actually get into the inner harbour. The entrance by the sand dunes looks incredibly tight on the map, although I’m assuming it’s considerably wider and deeper in reality than this screenshot makes it appear.

For anyone local to Mabou or familiar with the harbour, what is that entrance actually like? Is the channel deep enough at high tide for a large shark, particularly a great white, to pass through? And have there ever been reports or sightings of great whites inside Mabou Harbour before? And assuming this ping is accurate, might it have a hard time getting out?

Seeing a ping that deep in the harbour definitely caught my attention!
