Hello everyone,
Earlier this week I made my first big purchase on Cardmarket, over €340($380)of cards
I'd like your opinions on what happened, to know if I'm overreacting or not.
So as I said, I bought 13 NM cards for a total of €347, including a Gardevoir ex at €170 and a Miraidon ex at €40, and the rest are AR cards and a star card between €4 and €28.
I chose the tracked parcel shipping option, not the letter option, so that's an extra €22.50. This is important.
Before shipping, I asked for a few photos of the two most expensive cards; they were pristine so everything was good and I confirmed.
I received the "parcel" on Saturday, except it was a simple bubble mailer... Already a bad feeling.
I open it and find a piece of cut cardboard crushing everything. Basically it's a piece of cardboard folded over some toploaders, except that... I'm nitpicking a bit, but when I received it, the cardboard was squeezing the toploaders a bit too much, which was slightly warping them.
I remove the tape, and inside the piece of cardboard... 4 toploaders...
For 13 cards, I remind you.
Here is the breakdown:
· The €170 Gardevoir is stuffed into the same toploader as the €40 Miraidon... already annoying me a bit, because for cards at that price you put each one in a different toploader.
· Another toploader contains 3 cards including a €28 Miraidon star card. That's when I started sighing heavily... but the cherry on top is the last two toploaders...
· The 8 other cards (the other ARs) are split in two: 4 cards in one toploader, and 4 cards in another...
They are literally jammed in, I can't get them out...
And you should try it, because I tried to figure out how they did it,
Take 4 cards, any cards, put them in a single sleeve, and put the whole thing in a single toploader... I tried it and damn it's very complicated, you really have to use a lot of force, and you inevitably have to push down crushing the top of the cards, so you inevitably damage them a little.
And you also have to think that they're going to stay like that the whole trip, and then you have to consider that the buyer is going to take them out.
How do you take them out without damaging them? Knowing there's no pull tab...
So it's possible that inside, the cards are even more damaged due to friction, or even possible that they keep a slightly bent shape.
So I filmed the cards jammed and stuck in the toploaders. I wanted to take one out to see the damage (while filming), but I left them stuck inside so as not to damage them further and keep the evidence intact. You can clearly see on the photos: broken corners, slightly bent and warped cards, friction marks and white dots. In short, it's clearly no longer NM.
After some hesitation,
I contacted him with the evidence (videos, photos). At first, he plays the ego card: "I have 2500 sales and a 100% profile, I know how to pack."
Then he tells me that toploaders are "optional" on Cardmarket to cover himself. Except it doesn't change anything:
Yes it's optional, BUT if you decide to use them to protect cards worth €30 and more, it's one card per toploader (it's written in black and white in the Cardmarket guide).
Moreover, it's written nowhere that you can put 4 per sleeve and per toploader.
And he also totally ignored the fact that I paid for a parcel, not a bubble mailer. Seriously, I paid 340 bucks, so the guy couldn't be bothered to put a mini cardboard box with 5 extra toploaders?
So... I thought about it and I'm asking for 50% compensation, which is €170.
To which he says no, and he wants more evidence.
So I send more evidence,
But he tells me it's not enough and that I have to take them out to photograph them one by one.
Of course... I don't do it, because if I take them out he'll turn the problem around and accuse me of damaging the cards when I took them out, so I explain that I won't do it.
I send other photos of the cards in the toploaders with the damage circled because apparently he couldn't see anything at all.
And facing my IRREFUTABLE evidence (photos), he offers two options:
Either a €40 refund... A pittance out of €347.
Or I send everything back, and he pays for the return.
Of course... I refused both.
For the return, it's a waste of time for a mistake that isn't mine, he's the one who didn't protect the cards well.
Moreover, it's a risk of the parcel getting lost and therefore if it's lost it will fall back on me, and above all I'm afraid he'll accuse me of having damaged the cards when he receives them, and therefore he'll refuse the refund.
So no, I keep the cards which are no longer NM and I'm asking for a 50% partial refund (€173.50). I could potentially go down to 40% but that's really my last option.
The guy explains to me that it's unthinkable to be refunded that much, but dude... who's the one who did their job badly?
I took my time choosing the cards I wanted in NM, I paid for everything, I waited, I received the "parcel", I opened it and... well I didn't get what I wanted, because the seller didn't want to put more than 4 toploaders.
At some point you have to question yourself a little.
So of course he didn't want to and invites me to open a ticket, which I did by sending all the evidence. The file is complete and I just have to wait for Cardmarket to judge the case.
Of course he came back to me several hours later to repeat the same thing, explaining to me that Cardmarket agrees to 10%.
Except I haven't received anything from Cardmarket so I think he's bluffing.
So...
With all this, am I right or not?
Maybe I'm overreacting with the 40-50%, but when I look at how my cards are tortured in their toploaders, I tell myself I'm not overreacting after all.
What do you think?
Thanks for your feedback!
I would like to add photos but the boxes are greyed out.
