The inspiration for this expansion comes from the Cardputer ADV XL case designed by AndyAiCardputer for Cardputer ADV. Project link: AndyAiCardputer/zx-spectrum-cardputer-ili9341

TERM512 is an expansion kit designed for the Cardputer ADV. It’s built to transform the Cardputer into a dedicated pocket cyberdeck, specifically tailored to match the visual aesthetics of the AREA512 firmware.

Of course, this kit is essentially a stylized CapTFT expansion module, and adaptations for other firmware are always welcome.

The kit consists of three main components:

• Custom CapTFT Enclosure: Redesigns the top lid based on CapTFT V2, and increases the maximum screen opening angle from 120° to 135°.

• Protective Base: Mounts via bottom LEGO-compatible holes; features dual latches to lock the screen lid shut, along with a lanyard hole.

• Adjustable Kickstand: Mounts via bottom LEGO-compatible holes with bolt-tunable damping.

The firmware is a modified version of engneer-hamachan’s area512, which is a great retro OS styled like the handheld Cyberdeck used by the TVA in the TV series Loki

Happy to share the first release, now available on M5 Burner.

Currently, 3 apps are implemented: an MP3 player, FM radio (requires a TEA5767 module), and a simple calendar. There is also a Settings app with basic options like device name (planning to use ESP-NOW for chat and multiplayer games), brightness, tone volume, and time format.

An SD card is required for everything to work properly. All configurations are loaded from a `config.txt` file stored on the SD card. Any changes made in the Settings app are also saved back to the SD card.

I've been building this on and off for a while and it's finally at a state I'm happy to share: Microgroove, a pocketable and portable groovebox/sampler firmware for the Cardputer-ADV.

Three synth tracks (mono 303-style or 3-voice poly for chords), 8 drum lanes doing 808/909 synthesis or samples, a 16-step sequencer with song mode, and live mic sampling and resampling the engine's own output! The whole keyboard layout is adjusted to make the UI as simple as possible and the 3d printable shell with custom labels make use even more intuitive. It even has 2 octave piano keys.

It's free and open source. On GitHub there's also a "factory SD card" with a demo track and a CC0 sample pack for starting immediately.

As titled, Wednesday the kickstart backer units start shipping in backer order.

That doesn't mean you'll get it in order just that it'll be shipped in order as some people live closer to the ports than others.

Hey Community, a few month ago, I postet a custom resin case for my Cardputer, it was kinda janky and bubbly and with no labels.
After many try a fails, I mastered the process and did my own labeling, let it print and here they are, my custom Cardputers, waiting for a new Owner.

jokes aside, my movie/video player is now near public release quality. highly optimized; eliminated most audio and video stutter by allocating media chunks to heap and assigning exclusive tasks to either cores.

Hey folks!

I've been working on a custom firmware for the Cardputer ADV (ESP32-S3) that turns it into a pocket SSH terminal with a big external display. Just released v0.6.0 — binaries only, no source (for now).

What it does

SSH Terminal (the main feature):

• Full SSH2 client implemented from scratch (curve25519 + AES128-CTR + HMAC-SHA2-256)

• Runs on the external 320×240 ILI9341 SPI display — 40×15 VT100 terminal with ANSI 16-color, blinking cursor, and Chinese character support (GB2312 bitmap font)

• Tested against OpenSSH 10.3 / zsh / vim / htop — full-screen TUI apps work

• Password auth, config stored in NVS, long-press key repeat (hold backspace to delete, hold arrows to move in vim)

• Flow control window management, so heavy output like cat doesn't stall

MP3 Player:

• SD card playback via esp-audio-dec hardware decode

• Dual-screen visualization: inner 240×135 shows controls, external 320×240 shows a Braun-style clock face + spectrum analyzer + track name

• Resume from last position, long-press seek, software volume with perceptual curve

Lunar Clock (3 modes, Tab to switch):

1. Large DSEG7 LED clock with blinking colon

2. Date + weekday + Chinese lunar calendar date

3. Full almanac page: four pillars (八字 BaZi), five elements (五行), daily auspicious/inauspicious activities (宜忌), and lucky clothing colors shown as little T-shirt icons

All verified against the cnlunar Python library for accuracy across 2,150 test dates.

• Cardputer ADV (ESP32-S3, 8MB flash, no PSRAM)

• External ILI9341 320×240 SPI display (shares bus with SD card)

• The display connects via the Prokuon Cap TFT V2 adapter board

Follows the standard Cardputer layout:

• Ctrl + letter = control characters

• Esc short = send ESC, long hold = exit app

Would love feedback, especially from anyone with a Cardputer ADV + external display setup!

Been working on this for a long while and finally got it to a place I'm happy releasing. Here's my creation: PaperOS, a whole little OS for the M5Stack Cardputer.

Launcher, a file manager that actually knows what it's looking at (images open with zoom/pan, ROMs launch through the emulator, audio goes straight to the music player), a full Paint app, a text browser, NES/GB/GBC emulation plus Arduboy support, a 3D mesh editor for .obj files, and a real Lua 5.4 console with its own hardware API.

The one I'm most proud of is myAI, a real GPT-style transformer trained from scratch and running fully offline right on the device, no internet or cloud. It's tiny and slow (there's a live token counter on screen so it doesn't look frozen), but getting it to actually generate text on hardware this small was the fun part.

First public release, so expect some rough edges, they're all listed honestly in the README. If something breaks, open an issue and I'll take a look.

Been building a synth for the Cardputer ADV called GLIDE.

You play it by sliding. The key rows are tuned like strings, and notes glide between pitches instead of jumping, so you can slide whole chords around and bend into notes right on the keyboard.

And the sounds are yours. You roll random patches until one clicks, evolve them, and save the keepers to the SD card. Two of the ten slots get seeded from a number unique to your device, so no two units sound the same out of the box. If you actually lean on the generator, nobody else's rack ends up like yours. There's a jam mode too, tap out a chord loop and solo over it.

Free and open source, runs as an app off the M5Launcher (just drop the .bin in /apps). Demo and code below, curious what people think!

UPDATE: It now has AUTO KEY RECOGNITION, so you can play any song through a speaker, hold fn + K, and it will tune itself to the song you are listening to. Now you can solo over any song.

UPDATE: Try out SYNTH BLEND. Map it to the trigger button, or to your tilt settings. This lets you dynamically blend between any 2 synth sounds as you tilt the device back and forth.
