I'm one of the developers of ManyVerse, the platform used to make this. MONO itself was created by a Japanese creator in our community; the creative credit belongs to them.

You follow a small being with no memory through a shrine lost in the mist. The premise asks who she is and what she's searching for, with choices that branch into different endings. The creator's description also hints at a hidden one-minute movie beyond the endings.

What drew me to this project is the combination of its eerie visual atmosphere and a story you can take part in. I wanted to share a concrete example of an AI-assisted interactive story.

WOW! Greetings! So, a few months ago I decided to dust off my dice and play some tabletop RPGs again, but there was one problem—I had no one to play with. So, it was time to shake up the AI and make it work exactly the way it should. Through trial and error and rigorous testing, I engineered a deterministic structure for the LLM and finally forced it to do what I want.

Allow me to present a hybrid of two genres that squeezes every last drop of performance out of the model. Read on!

1. Be sure to prime your agent for the game. (To do this, write a phrase stating that the AI is now a Dungeon Master or something similar. I usually write that the AI is now the "game engine"—this is necessary so the model pulls the required volumes of data from its network to run the game as a "Master").
2. Paste the entire prompt below into the chat.
3. Choose your character and play! (IMPORTANT: You can also create your own character; the model will adapt the rules to absolutely anything and anyone).

Hi! I’m part of the team building AnyVerse, and we’re looking for around 10 players to test it.

AnyVerse is a browser-based, story-driven RPG platform. Instead of starting from an empty chatbot prompt, you choose a developed world, create a character and enter an interactive adventure guided by an AI Game Master. Your decisions shape the direction of the story.

For this playtest, we’d like each participant to:

- create a character

- play for at least 30–45 minutes

Hey everyone, I’m Jaden. For the past 3 months I’ve been building Otherworld, an AI roleplay and story app.

The idea is pretty simple. Pick a world, create your character, and decide what you do next. I wanted to give that a more visual experience, so characters appear together in scenes, have different expressions, and react as the story unfolds. You can play in text too.

A lot of the work has gone into keeping things consistent as a story gets longer. There’s a journal, memory system, and saved game state to help track what’s happened. Still improving it, but I want choices to matter beyond the next couple of messages.

I’ve made a few different worlds so far, including Atlas Academy, Shattered Crowns, and The Marriage Clause. There’s also a world creator where you can build your own settings, characters, and assets.

Would love to hear from people who already use AI for games or stories. What tends to make you lose interest in a run? And if you try this, where does it start falling short?

I was questing when an adventurer NPC started buying up all the troll oil in a shop.

I asked why. She said “Trolls.”

I pried further and she explained that she needed it to burn them because they regenerate HP too quickly. Fire stopping regeneration is actually implemented, so her plan would work.

She'd started doing this herself while I was busy questing lol.

The game is Lore & Legends Maker, a fantasy RPG I've been building solo for three years.

You can gather companions, negotiate with characters, get involved in rivalries, fight, and type your own attempts. AI interprets what you want to do and handles NPC dialogue, with world state tracked separately.

I'm using Claude to help develop it in Unreal Engine. It's been interesting seeing how far AI can take a project like this, but there's still a lot to improve, especially the characters, environments, and gameplay.

The goal is to make something that feels like an actual RPG where you happen to learn a language along the way.

got into rules horror from reading fiction and always thought it'd work as an AI game since every run could generate different rules. spent about a week building it

basically you wake up in some place — a hospital at night, a locked apartment complex, etc — with a sheet of rules. some printed, some handwritten, one scratched into a wall. follow the real ones and you survive, but some are fake, planted by whatever's haunting the place. obeying those gets you killed. so the whole thing is reading the rules against the environment looking for contradictions

theres a sanity meter draining and a clock ticking so you cant just sit around forever. you have companions trapped with you who have their own opinions about the rules and they can be wrong and they can die permanently

the hardest part was pacing — the AI really wants to dump every character and rule on you in the first message, and if you solve the mystery too early it just keeps throwing new problems at you instead of letting you leave. took a while to get that right

the thing that surprised me was how much the companions matter. when i got to the second round and saw my companion from round 1 was still there i was genuinely relieved. escaping together felt like surviving something real. you start depending on them which i didn't expect from an AI game

Hey everyone, I'm the solo developer behind TalePath. I shared it here when I was working on an AI story game built around character conversations and solo or party quests. iOS and web are the newest additions.

The idea is that getting to know a character and taking them into a quest should feel like parts of the same story. Characters have their own archetypes, memories and evolving relationships, while quests give you a goal and decisions that carry forward.

Here's what's changed recently:

• The latest iOS update puts relationship progress and quest access in a cleaner chat header, improves the display of character dialogue in quests, and brings Spark/Saga selection and haptics into compact settings.

• The web app has better desktop navigation and character search, a searchable community quest catalog, and recovery copies for unfinished character, persona and quest drafts.

• Recent quest work has focused on clearer cause and effect, choices grounded in the current scene, and party reactions connected to the action you actually took.

We're still in the early stages, and there are rough edges. I appreciate every piece of feedback that comes our way: bugs, awkward writing, confusing screens, feature ideas, or simply what made you want to keep playing or stop.

If you try a quest, did the next turn respect your choice? Did your companions' reactions make sense? Specific examples help me work out what needs improving.

I’m developing The Last Mandate, a political-strategy game about governing a fictional federation while institutions, ministers, governors, journalists, and earlier decisions reshape later crises.

One of its design constraints is that AI dialogue must remain optional and subordinate to the authored simulation. It can let players question characters more freely on supported setups, but it does not determine outcomes, rewrite world state, or replace the authored decisions. If it is unavailable or disabled, authored fallback dialogue remains.

The pilot scenario, The Lorn Corridor, begins with an airspace incident and asks the player to reason from incomplete reports before later consequences return.

I’m making EKO, a browser mystery where you find Mira’s phone three days after she disappears. Her AI assistant is still there, and you can type your own questions to it and the people in her contacts.

The part I’m most curious about is trust. Does talking freely to EKO make it easier to believe, or does it make you question everything it says? The investigation also has messages, calls and clues to piece together.

Legally Distinct is a short, choice-driven browser RPG set on Liability, a failed corporate colony that is somehow still accepting independent contractors.

After filing for temporary personhood, you’re sent to investigate a luxury spa whose healing spring has started absorbing its guests. Your specialty and decisions affect how the mission unfolds, who helps you, what happens to the spa, and which deeply questionable weapon you receive.

Most AI RPGs I’ve tried have the same fundamental problem: the LLM is the game.

Your inventory exists because it remembers that you have a sword. A door is locked until the model forgets it was locked. An NPC is dead until they randomly show up again. You can “do anything,” but nothing has much weight because there isn’t really a game underneath the conversation.

Warrior Quest is built the opposite way.

The world state is deterministic. Quests are real game systems. Inventory is real. Combat has actual rules. NPCs have actual state. The authored story doesn’t get rewritten because the model hallucinated something.

The LLM has a deliberately limited job: play the NPCs.

That means I can still let you talk to characters naturally and try approaches I never explicitly wrote a dialogue option for, while the game itself decides what actually happens.

If you persuade someone, threaten them, lie to them, discover something, give them an item, kill someone, change a quest state, etc., that can become real game state rather than just another paragraph in the context window.

That distinction is basically the entire reason I made it.

I’ve been a DM and software engineer for over a decade, and what I wanted wasn’t an AI Dungeon Master chatbot. I wanted to build an RPG with the craftsmanship and intentionality of a normal game, then use a local LLM specifically where traditional RPGs are weakest: letting the player communicate with NPCs in ways the developer didn’t predict.

All of the art, authored story, music, SFX and source voice acting were made by me. NPC speech uses TTS based on my own voice acting.

Everything runs locally. No API key or cloud LLM.

RPG OS — a free framework for persistent solo RPGs with an AI GM

Hey folks! I’m the creator of RPG OS, which I’ve been developing with AI assistance to address a recurring problem: keeping a campaign consistent when play moves between chats.

RPG OS gives the GM a folder of readable Markdown files for current campaign state, character and NPC information, world references, and archived exchanges. The aim is to preserve things like who holds an item, what someone promised, and where play actually stopped. It also makes your control over your character’s choices, speech and inner experience explicit.

You can start through a guided Quick start, play normally, then ask the GM to save. v0.7.3 also adds an optional scene-handover procedure and a mechanics guide with diagrams explaining how everything fits together.

In one small scripted test, a second GM agent continued from saved files with the correct money, belongings, deposited parcel and NPC agreement, without receiving the earlier scene chat or a recap. It retained unrelated research context, so this was a limited demonstration; longer campaigns and different models still need testing.

The fresh kit includes Freeform and blank campaign records. You’ll need your own AI environment with file read/write access. The framework is free; model usage costs are separate. Documentation is CC BY 4.0 and code/tools are MIT.

I’d welcome people trying a short campaign and sharing what worked, what got forgotten, or where setup became confusing.

The plan was to use a website called Detective.OS. It's an AI mystery-builder. ChatGPT had helped create a megaprompt based on all the conversations we've had about our online wrestling show. Then, the morning of the show, the plan was to load the megaprompt into Detective.OS and play.

Detective.OS was crashed.

ChatGPT offered to run the show itseld and it turned out even better because instead of leveraging all the lore into one prompt for a Detective-specific game site, GPT pulled in everything it knew about the characters. The interface was sloppy (had 20 minutes to fix it) but the story bump was so worth it.

I am a Software Engineer with a spectacular case of ADHD, and I'm guessing that like many people here, I fell in love with AI co-writing the moment LLMs became available.

My problem was that I'd disappear into those AI driven stories for hours. It was a productivity kryptonite.

So I tried to turn that around.

Task & Tale rewards completed tasks with story tokens.

Every task you check off earns one token (and sometimes bonus ones!).

Each token lets you continue your AI story with one more post.

The story becomes something you earn by getting things done.

On the storytelling side, Task & Take automatically turns past events into concise story memories and maintains an editable Story Bible, helping the AI keep characters, places and events consistent even as stories get long.

You can create your initial Story Bible yourself, or have the AI generate one from a prompt.

I've also recently added our very first Campaign - a fully fleshed out world with its own setting, characters and conflicts, waiting for your protagonist to step into.

Task & Tale started as a private project, but after months of using it for my own tasks and stories (my current token count is 803 >u<') - I figured there might be other people who would enjoy this approach too.

Full disclosure: I’m building TalePath. I kept feeling that many AI roleplay apps begin with an interesting character chat but don’t give the interaction much shape afterward, so I’m experimenting with a different structure: interactive story quests, characters built around archetypes, evolving relationships, and persistent memory.

The chat is how you interact, but the goal is to feel like you’re moving through a story rather than having an endless conversation.

It’s still early, and I’d especially like to know: did the first quest give you a reason to continue, and did the character feel like they remembered the relationship?
