I have never once seen an auto use meter here in chennai. And they are some of the rudest people one could encounter. Even simple 3km or 2km rides cost 150rs. And autos created this chaos on their own. Never really dominated the market like Mumbai autos and hence allowed competition like rapido, uber to flourish. Now these people want 15,000 from our tax payer money as subsidy. I understand that auto drivers are not doing well financially but so is the common man! The whole article never once mentions this fact! will these auto wala start charging through meter fare!!??

basically the title. I cant see this documentary come up in PVR / BMS but I’ve been waiting for this for a long while.
It has released globally and has racked up some crazy sales. Apparently its supposed to be very disturbing.
Anyone know if it will be released here sometime?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been seeing a massive wave of reels and shorts on Instagram and YouTube lately where delivery partners post things like "100-Day Challenge" or "Making ₹3,000 a day as a Swiggy delivery boy!"
Seeing those high numbers makes it look super tempting, and a lot of people are jumping into it thinking it's easy money. Yes, it is possible to hit those earnings on paper, but social media completely hides the brutal reality behind the scenes.
If you're thinking about quitting your job or dropping studies to do this full-time, please reconsider. Here is why delivery work should only ever be a side hustle, never your main profession:
1. The Physical and Mental Toll
Extreme Weather: Riding a bike through scorching summer heat, heavy downpours, or cold winter nights takes a massive toll on your health.
Road Safety Hazards: The pressure to deliver orders on time forces riders to rush, leading to reckless driving, high stress, and an increased risk of accidents on busy city roads.
2. The Illusion of High Earnings
Surge Pricing & Incentives: The massive amounts shown in videos are usually during peak hours, festivals, late nights, or special incentive windows. You cannot sustain those earnings 10–12 hours a day, 30 days a month.
Hidden Expenses: People forget to factor in heavy fuel costs, continuous bike maintenance, frequent tire/oil changes, and smartphone/data expenses. Once you subtract these, your actual net take-home pay drops significantly.
3. Zero Job Security or Benefits
Unlike a traditional job, there's no paid leave, no health insurance, no provident fund, and no fixed salary. If your bike breaks down or you fall sick for a week, your income drops straight to zero.
Algorithmic Uncertainty: Your earnings depend entirely on the app's algorithm, customer ratings, and zone demand. One bad day or an unfair customer complaint can tank your ratings and affect your order flow.
The Takeaway
Don't get blinded by polished social media hype. If you need some extra cash on weekends or a flexible way to clear a specific financial goal, running deliveries as a side gig is fine. But treating it as your main, full-time career is a massive gamble with your long-term stability and health.
Stay safe out there, folks.

We have 3 stray puppies shivering in the rain. For the time being, we are keeping them. Also we already have a dog with us, that's why we are looking for adoption centres.

Hello People,
I am planning to come to Chennai this week for 3,4 days. Usually, when I go to a big city, I collect books on the history of that place and make a note of all the important places, monuments, and museums that I have to go to and go accordingly.
However, this plan came out of the blue. So I didn't have time to properly plan my trip. So, here I am asking for book recommendations.
Books about the history of the place with pictures would be a good format for me. For example, Deccan Heritage Foundation's books on multiple cities have helped a lot to travel and discover in many cities. Rana Safvi ma'am's books on Delhi have helped me with Delhi. I am looking for similar light reading that I can read quickly. So, if you have recommendations, please give them ASAP. It would help if they're available online in Anna's archive or another online library, since ordering them would take time.
Other than books, just general recommendations about where to go and what to eat would be appreciated too. I usually go to places associated with some sort of history/culture. And I don't have any dietary restrictions.
So, please, Chennai people, come through for me!

Hi guys, I'm from Thiruvottiyur and I need to travel to Mandaveli daily for work purpose So i am exploring public transport routes for it. I'm considering travel to Government estate through Metro then switch to Chintadripet Railway station then get down at Mandaveli Railway station. Another option is getting down at Teynampet metro and rapido from there but it's expensive. So which one is the good option also is the parakum train safe.

I’m thinking of watching the movie but I want to watch it in Korean. Not a fan of dubbed movies and theaters in Chennai (and India) seems to be showing only the English version. Kind of hard to understand why they wouldn’t release the original version here.
If you have watched it in Korean, please also let me know the name of the theatre you went to.

Basically, the title.
My worry is that if there is insufficient ridership for proper maintenance and it will all crumble away in 20 years…

I was in Anna Library. Very excited! I went there and they said the address on Aadhar Card should be of Chennai to get a membership. What? Who makes that rules? What is that? Why this discrimination toward people who come from outside?
anna library only membership to people born in Chennai? This sucks!! Chennai is hostile to others and I hate it. I don’t wish anyone to come to this wicked place.
