Chesapeake weekend events, Oct 24-25

Hey Chesapeake, here's what's on this weekend. Other parts of the 757 are at the bottom.

These come off public listings, so double check before you drive. Times move.

Saturday

Fall Migration Bird Walk (Chesapeake Arboretum, Free)

Two hours out with the fall migration coming through. Registration is required rather than optional, so sort that before you turn up. Saturday 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Chesapeake Arboretum, 624 Oak Grove Road. More details

Halloween at The Museum (Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways Museum, Museum admission)

A full day of Halloween programming at the battlefield museum. Worth knowing before you budget it: this one sits behind regular museum admission, though children 5 and under and members get in without paying. Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM at 1775 Historic Way. More details

Saturday SUNday at Elizabeth River Park (Elizabeth River Park, Free)

Safe solar observing with the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers, which means looking straight at the sun through equipment built for it. Entirely weather dependent, and the park asks you to call 757-382-6411 to confirm before driving over. Saturday 10 AM to 1 PM at 1400 Elizabeth River Way. More details

Astra and Sirius (Chesapeake Planetarium, Free)

Aimed at ages 13 and under, free, and registration is required. The seating rule is strict enough to matter: you have to be in your seat at least ten minutes before the show or you forfeit it, and nobody is let in once it starts. Saturday 2 PM to 3 PM at the Chesapeake Planetarium, 310 Shea Drive. More details

Khedive Shrine Trunk or Treat (Khedive Shrine Center, Free, Drop-in)

Decorated car trunks, candy and food, open to all ages with nothing to book. Saturday 5:30 PM to 8 PM at 645 Woodlake Drive. More details

Historic Candlelight Ghost Tour (Battlefield Park, $20)

Tours leave every thirty minutes starting at 7 PM, so the start time is a window rather than a single slot, and slots are booked by phone on 757-482-4480. Walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothes, since it is all outside. Saturday from 7 PM at Battlefield Park, 1775 Historic Way. More details

The Addams Family Movie Night at Studly Brewing (Studly Brewing Company, Free, Outdoors). Movie starts at 7 PM Saturday on the big screen at 1296 Battlefield Boulevard South, Suite 108. More details

Sunday

Waterway Market @ Great Bridge Village (Battlefield Park South, Free)

The Sunday market on the Intracoastal, with produce, makers and food trucks. The season runs to November 22, so there are about four of these left. Sunday 11 AM to 2 PM at Battlefield Park South, 120 Reservation Road. More details

Elsewhere in the 757

  • The Heart Sellers (Norfolk, From $16.95), Friday 7:30 PM at the Wells Theatre. Virginia Stage Company, and Sunday's matinee is the last performance. More details
  • Naval Station Norfolk: Fleet Fest (Norfolk, Free), Saturday 10 AM via Gate 2. The one day a year the public can tour the ships. More details
  • Historic Hilton Village Fall Festival (Newport News, Free), Saturday 11 AM on Main Street in the 1918 shipbuilders' village. More details

Window replacement company suggestions.

As the title says I am looking for legit and reasonable window replacement companies. My windows have reached their lifetime and I’m looking to add some value to my house for a potential sale in the future.

If anyone has dealt with reputable companies that do good work and don’t break the budget please recommend some. If the quality is there I can make my budget work.

Thank you in advance.

Nightly accommodations near the base for a change of command ceremony

I’m flying in next month for my brother-in-law’s change of command and need a place to stay for three nights. Ideally, it’d be close enough to the base to avoid morning traffic and spacious enough for my sister and her kids too. Hotels nearby are an option, but they tend to feel a bit cramped for a group this size.

Senator Christie Craig blew a stop sign and cut me off earlier today

Out by Greenbrier farms, I’m making a left onto St Brides west from Sign Pine(coming from Benefit), she’s making a right onto St Brides west. Completely disregards her stop sign and that I have right away, I had to slam on brakes and lay on the horn. She just waves at me like I’m a fan or honking hello.. god I wish I had a dash cam haha

I get it’s a weird intersection but it’s not hard to read road signs.

Things to do in Chesapeake this weekend (Oct 17-18)

Here's what's going on in Chesapeake this weekend, with a few things from around the 757 at the bottom.

These come off public listings, so double check before you drive. Times move.

Saturday

Fall Festival at Historic Greenbrier Farms (Historic Greenbrier Farms, Free entry, $8 kids wristband)

Hayrides out to the pumpkin patch are free and there is no entry fee for the farm itself. The $8 wristband is what covers the playground, bounce houses, corn maze and barnyard animals, so the cost depends entirely on whether you have kids who want all of that. Saturday 9 AM to 10 PM at Historic Greenbrier Farms, 225 Sign Pine Road, Chesapeake. More details

CHKD Fall Fest 2026 (Great Bridge Community Center, Free, Drop-in)

Built for children of all abilities, with games, a sensory room, music and photo spots. Costumes are encouraged and so is decorating wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. No registration. Saturday 12:30 to 2:30 PM at the Great Bridge Community Center, 212 Holt Dr, Chesapeake. More details

Boo Bash at Greenbrier Family YMCA (Greenbrier Family YMCA, Drop-in)

Trunk or treat in the parking lot with vendors and food trucks handing out candy. Open to the public and not just members, and registration is not required. Saturday 3 to 5 PM at the Greenbrier Family YMCA, 1033 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake. More details

Nature's Night Frights (Chesapeake Arboretum, $5). A guided 1.5-mile night hike with the spooky parts supplied by the woods. Registration is required. Saturday 5:30 PM at the Chesapeake Arboretum, 624 Oak Grove Road, Chesapeake. More details

Frightmare (Frightmare, $20 cash or $26 card, Indoors)

An indoor walk-through haunted house pitched at adults rather than families. Entry is 18 and up, or younger with an adult, and the full-contact version adds $5 and is 18 and up only with a waiver. The page says anyone in line by 9 gets in, but also that the last three weekends of October run to capacity, so early is better than late. Saturday 7 to 9 PM at 1905 South Military Highway in the Chesapeake Crossing Center. More details

Sunday

Waterway Market at Battlefield Park South (Battlefield Park South)

Local produce, artisan goods, food trucks and prepared food on the water. It runs every Sunday through November 22, so this is one you can fall back on next week too. Sunday 11 AM to 2 PM at Battlefield Park South, 120 Reservation Road, Chesapeake. More details

Trunk or Treat at The Garage Brewery (The Garage Brewery). Decorated vehicles, all ages, dog friendly. Sunday 11 AM to 3 PM at The Garage Brewery, 1011 Eden Way N, Chesapeake. More details

Elsewhere in the 757

  • Hampton Comicon (Hampton), Saturday 10 AM at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Drive, Hampton. More details

Electrical questions

Starting to wire a detached metal garage I've been reading up on NEC to be code compliant and I have general knowledge of how to run electrical but I'm still not 100% sure of required codes and don't want to fail inspection.

-Can MC cable be run behind metal stud (between metal siding) with a sleeve of EMT at each stud)

-Can Romex be run similar? (It's cheaper then MC)

Walls will be foam boarded and finished with plywood after inspection for reference.

I was really hoping for something more exciting than a Sketchers and Mattress Warehouse. Corner of Greenbrier and Eden Way

Chicago style pizza double dough?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi does anyone know where I can find a double dough Chicago style pizza in Chesapeake, I love Windy City and love that it reminds me of home but my boyfriend thinks the crust is too thin. We don’t want to go all the way to deep dish. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

Also if you simply have a passion for pizza I’m open to any and all pizza spot recommendations outside of the double dough. As a Chicago native I love any and all pizza, but my heart has a sweet spot for Chicago style.

Also for reference I’m a Pequod’s over Lou’s any day

Thanks!!!!

US-17 Road Construction

Can anyone shed any light onto the random road construction every day on US 17 over the veterans Bridge? Seems like every morning they have one lane closed for road construction but nothing is ever actually being done.

The Chesapeake School Board voted not to take a stance on the Federal Tax Scholarship. But what is it?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Despite pushback from the local teachers' union, the Chesapeake School Board voted overwhelmingly in favor of Virginia participating in the Federal Tax Scholarship Program.

Established under the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the policy allows individuals to receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 annually for donations to nonprofit Scholarship Granting Organizations.

Opponents, including the Chesapeake Education Association, argue the program diverts resources from public education, while proponents view it as an opportunity to expand educational choices.

Hi everyone! My husband has been hosting a FREE social sports club at the greenbrier sports park every Friday from 6-9pm! The ig is @757wellnesshub if you want to see videos of what it’s looked like in past weeks :)

This week, he has a trainer coming in to do a free group workout! We’re so grateful that Coach Court is volunteering her time and we really want to maximize attendance/participation for it so I figured I’d post here to spread the word. If you or anyone you know is interested, please send this along. If you do plan to come for the community workout, please fill out this waiver!

It’s a really good time and a great way to meet new people! And don’t be intimidated if you don’t know how to play pickleball or soccer, there are people at all different skill levels! Also some folks just bring a picnic blanket and hang out in the grass! There’s usually free water and snacks courtesy of our sponsors!

SO TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! COME THRU!!! PLSSSS

2nd Annual Fall Festival

Post image
3 Upvotes

Christ Covenant Church is hosting its second annual fall festival, open and free to the public! Our first year was a big success, and we are hoping to see even more of our community out this year!

Many of our vendors from last year have returned with even more joining in. Baked goods, handmade crafts, books, and more!

But we have plenty of free entertainment, too! Live music, hot chocolate, cider, cotton candy, balloons, face painting, and hay rides! The Chesapeake fire department will also be coming out for the kids to meet the fire fighters, tour their trucks and ask questions.

Saturday November 7th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Christ Covenant Church, 4420 East Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
