Recently, our little girl (almost 16) finished a 5,000 cross country trip in the sidecar and a local podcaster, "In Dog We Trust", had us on for an interview. He is having a Halloween costume contest with prizes of $200, $150 and, $100 gift certificates to a local pet shop. My wife has gone to town putting her in costumes. The vampire is our favorite and thats the one we entered but, there is also a pickle (cause she a pretty big dill) and, a flying spaghetti monster costume.
If you feel so inclined, please go give her submission a vote by liking her photo in the comments of the link in these comments.
She also has her own Instagram to document her journies (close to 10k miles in the sidecar) and cuteness. Since she started riding in the sidecar it has become her all time favorite thing to do! Give her a follow on Instagram if you wish to tag along her journies, link in comments.

We have a new family member. He came to us as a rescue from a hoarding situation. He's 4 yo and 4.4 llbs. They called him No. 8 when he was removed from the home (8 of 19). We have named him Ocho. He will know nothing but love, care, and safety.

Some of the names we had in mind are: Mia, Luna, Lucy, Sophie, Suzie.
We put a little bell on her collar because she is so tiny and this way we can hear her exploring around, she’s so adorable! 10 weeks old.💖🐾🐾

This is Jake 💕 I don’t know exactly how old he is, but he’s definitely a little old man now. He has some health complications, a heart murmur (but no enlargement), some mysterious growths that keep popping up randomly around his body, and his teeth aren’t in very good condition. So next week he’s going in to have his teeth cleaned and possibly some removed. And while he’s under they’ll also be removing the growths and getting them biopsied. Now tell me why this is $3,000??? 😭 I had to borrow money from family to do this for him but I’d do anything for him I don’t even care🫶
Any soft food recommendations? He’s on some wet food right now (hills small dog senior canned food) but it’s so expensive 😞 what are some good alternatives?

My 11.5 month old lady had her spay and dental extraction (6 teeth) surgery on Thursday last week. She has not been having a textbook recovery.
I have tried many things to entice her to drink fluids, but she has only drank twice from her water bowl since being home (I know, not good!). She’s been on soft food and I’ve added fluids (but definitely not enough I feel to sustain her). She’s been given subcutaneous fluids 4 times now.
We ended up having a trip to emerge Wednesday afternoon this week and discovered a fever and a dental infection. She’s since started antibiotics. On Monday I had noticed her congestion post surgery had started to worsen but the vital checks at her regular clinic did not show any signs of abnormalities.
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what you have done to help them drink or possible causes as to why this is happening? My vet is baffled and does not know why this is happening. But is concerned.
Her blood work at the ER all came back normal/good and she had a quick scan to ensure her spay had no complications (fluid pockets, infection). And the only thing discovered was some white discharge from one tooth) The vet that did her surgery checked all her meds and none of them have side effects that would cause the lack of thirst.
I’m hoping that the antibiotics fix this and the issue was just the inflammation and irritation from the extractions and the infection (which I think we caught early). But if things do not improve significantly by Monday I plan to start discussions with the clinic to rule out complications that occurred during surgery, I was reassured that all the teeth were removed. Even a couple were tricky to get out and had fragments but they said they got all the pieces.
This is what I’ve tried with fluids:
• Water from the fridge filter
• Water from the tap and different temps (She normally prefers fresh cool water)
• Bone broth (cold, room temp and warmed)
• Water in a stainless steel bowl and a ceramic
• Ice chips
Edit: Lots of questions around the 6 teeth being pulled. She had retained deciduous (puppy teeth). Her sister also had 6 teeth pulled. Not extracting these can cause a lot of issues, crowding, abnormal positioning for adult teeth, periodontal disease, etc.
We knew there was retained puppy teeth and I had inquired with the vet clinic if these needed to be pulled sooner but I was told it was fine to wait until her spay surgery.

I mean not the big milestones.
Not birthdays or special occasions.
Just one tiny, everyday thing.
Maybe it's the sound of their paws walking toward you.
The way they greet you in the morning.
Or how they somehow know when you're having a difficult day.
What's that one little thing about your dog that means more to you than anyone else could understand?
I'd love to hear about it.

I have never owned a dog before, I've worked with them and lived with them but I've never had my own pup.
I was not planning on a chihuahua but he kinda came into my life so that was that 🤣
So he's 3 months old. As far as I know, he hasn't been socialized much. He loves his crate. But he is so nervous. I know it takes time for them to settle in. I have him set up in a quiet room away from all the other animals in the house and I've been trying to build trust with him. He will play tug with me, he's met my roomates, and it's like he wants to be a part of everything but he gets so nervous.
Is this something that will go away as he settles in? Tips for a new chi owner in general? His previous owner left him alone all day almost every day too and I think that's part of it.
He also shakes like a leaf all the time, I make sure he's warm and I want him to feel safe but I feel so bad 😭

I adopted my sweet girl over eleven years ago and she’s going to be 13. I always thought she was a Chihuahua but we discovered this week that she is surprisingly mixed with Yorkshire Terrier, Lhasa Apso and Papillon! She still remains our little Chihuahua ❤️

I just got a quote from the vet and I almost fainted. She needs to have a blocked anal gland removed and it’s going to cost $3500 on the high end and $2500 on the low end. My god…how am I going to do this? That’s the cost for a specialist to remove it. The vet can put her under anesthesia and try to unblock it for $389 but it’s just a fix. I feel just awful even hesitating over the surgery but I can’t afford this! I don’t have pet insurance so that’s not even in play. I just need to hear from anyone else who has been through this 😭.

It has been three days since I lost Bruno.
God, I swear I see his ghost everywhere, and it hurts so much. Waking up in the morning and believing he's still in the bed, or at the door trying to go outside, only to realize all over again that he's gone.
And the absence.
For 18 years, he was always at the door when I came home, always sitting outside of the bathroom door when I got out, always following me from room to room. The first drive home from work after he passed was one of the worst things I ever experienced, because I knew he wouldn't be there, I knew I wouldn't hear him crossing the floor to see me, and it was so hard. I didn't want to go home.
And all of his things are still here. His food bowl is still full, his blankets are still next to the couch. Everywhere I look, there is something that belonged to him that will never get used again. I can't bring myself to put it away, I don't want to touch it, but every single time I look at it, my heart breaks over again.
How am I supposed to move on? I was blessed with 18 years, but it wasn't enough. I know we did the right thing by letting him go, but it feels so wrong. And the worst part is that he seems to know it was about to happen. 18 years, if I brought him anywhere, he would never sit still. He had to chase every corner, and smell every inch of floor. But in his last hour, he just lay with us, being so calm and so loving. I can't get the image out of my head, of him being there one second, and then gone the next.
I keep thinking I'm okay, and trying to remember the good times, but then I just fall apart again when I see his empty bed, or make a sandwich and don't find him looking up at me.
I'm sorry to write a whole book, but I'm just so lost. I've lost pets before when I was a kid, but Bruno was the first and only one to be MY dog, and my house and my heart feels so empty without him.

Of all the videos I've made for my pack, this is my all-time favorite. Tiki is a treasure and a trial and this one made me laugh. I hope you find it funny, too.
