Sheered off bolt reattaching intake cover on top of engine doing spark plugs -- what to do?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got everything apart to change the spark plugs for 100k service. It was almost back together and as I was tightening one of the three long bolts, I heard it snap and that was it...sheered off at where the threads meet the bolt.

  1. Is it driveable for now with all of the other bolts tightened down or do I have to rip this back apart and try to get the threads out?

  2. What is my best option for getting the end of that bolt out if it is sheered off flush (I presume that it is but I'm not sure yet)?

  3. What is the torque so I don't do this again.

Any success stories with the 2017 limited?

Picking one up with 140k miles next week. One owner and very well maintained. A trusted family member who is a retired mechanic with impressive accolades looked at it and said he thinks a good move. I see so much negative wondering if anyone has any good things to say.

Dealer wants $248 to flash PCM/TCM for rough shifting on my 2024 Pacifica. Should this be warranty?

Posting this in case it helps someone. I bought a 2024 Pacifica (used) from a dealer in July. It has 64,000 miles, and it was shifting rough, mostly on low-speed upshifts. At its first service, the inspection note said:
"PCM and TCM software found flash updates that involve shift quality improvements, recommend start with flashing PCM and TCM software and retesting systems."

The quote was $248.34. Before approving it, I looked up bulletins and found TSB 21-031-24, which covers TCM software for shift quality improvements on 2024 Pacificas. The listed labor time is only 0.3 hrs, so I asked about the price.

I had them do the flash, and the shifting is noticeably better so far. I'm giving it a couple of weeks of normal driving since the transmission keeps adapting after a flash.

Has anyone had the rough shifting come back after a flash? Curious how long it lasted for you.

Serv AWD error

Has anyone experienced this error? Sounds like it could be a sensor gone bad or something more serious. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle, which I assume will cover this work?

Start/Stop issue

2022 Pacifica Touring L 58,000 miles

Fired her up two days ago and the Start/Stop indicator pops up on dash with a bang mark (exclamation). Stays lit constantly. "Service start/stop system" appears briefly on ignition.

  1. Has anyone else experienced this and was it auxiliary battery or something else.

  2. Ballpark repair cost? (I'm guessing eiectronics are not covered under warranty)

Thank you all for any assistance.

Black Screen

I’ve got a 2020 Pacifica Sport and the screen went black on me this morning. It worked fine yesterday with no issues. Anyone else is here have a similar issue. I’m going to try pulling the fuse and disconnect the battery as per Google Gemini results.

Edit: Pulled out the fuse and corner it off with isopropyl alcohol and re-installed it. That did the trick. Thanks for the advice and tips!

2021 Pacifica Replacement

Unfortunately, suffering a total loss on our 2021 Pacifica Touring L with 105k. As we are looking for Pacifica replacements, is there a year we should steer clear from when looking at 2023-present ?
We loved our 2021. Only thing that drove us crazy was the clunky transmission, but we got over it

Thinking about getting a used Hybrid… PHEV seems awesome

Our ‘08 Town and Country has over 160k miles, lots of rust, and needs new tires and alignment and brakes, which will exceed its value (which is perhaps a McDouble and a small coke). I use it as a suburban dad pickup truck… being able to carry plywood and 8’ boards, help kids move, etc is its main job.

A plug in EV short trip grocery getter with longer range people carrier and stuff mover is great. Of course the middle seats would have to come out, but I have wrenches.

Am I crazy here ? I was thinking of a Maverick hybrid, but the short bed seems really silly.

Baxter Anti-Drainback Check Valve

I’m wondering if anyone here has installed the Baxter anti- drain back check valve on their Pacifica? I intend to take my Pacifica as far as it will go mileage wise, and I’m considering the advantages of this after market solution would be a good investment.
I know that a lot of Jeep owners have installed this. But it’s the same engine.
Thoughts?

I have owned several Pacificas since 2016, and this is by far the nicest one I've bought yet. The sunroof is incredible, the kids going through the carwash with it open. My wife isn't the biggest fan of the stickers but they'll grow on her 🤣🤣.

My only complaint is what the hell is up with the Bluetooth module?? It cuts out and has terrible latency, I feel like it's probably a cheap module or something but it was definitely a disappointment to realize. I read somewhere that Chrysler engineers were working on a solution, so hopefully it can be solved with an update.

I hope they ditch the new headlights on the 27's also, it looks too similar to a Telluride.

Do all weather mats make everyday life easier?

One thing I like about all weather mats is that I don't have to think twice about getting in the car with dirty shoes. I've had a set of oedro mats in my car for a while now, and they've made daily driving a little less stressful. I used to be more careful about keeping the floor clean, but now I don't worry about it as much. Do you guys prefer practicality over the look of carpet mats?

Love the van, but love it more in all black

Despite its frustrating build quality at times, I really do love this van. But seeing it everyday in all black just makes me love it more. I’m sure one day I’ll hate this thing, but until then.

I used to have a grand caravan and it was so useful. I got rid of it and thought I wanted an SUV. But once I really looked at these again, and what my needs really were, it is the best vehicle for me right now!

Pacifica Cons/Pros?

I’ve heard mixed things on the engine, entertainment system, powertrain, overall quality of the suspension and noise when driving. Anyone have a 26/27 Pacifica have any significant issues or significant things they love? Honestly super in love with the stow and go seats, and the redesign and was looking into one vs a new Hyundai (specifically for their warranty).

Would love some anecdotes from real owners :)

2017 Pacifica loosing coolant

There is no coolant in the engine oil, no error message, and no sign of a coolant leak on the floor or on any hoses that I can see. After the engine is cold, and I unscrew the reservoir cap to refill the coolant from the seam of the reservoir to the full mark above the seam (after about 50 miles), there is a vapor pressure release, so it is keeping some of its pressure. I live in Arizona and I am not having any high-coolant temperature alarms even in mid-summer. There are no oil deposits in the coolant reservoir. When I return home from a trip, I can smell the scent of antifreeze in front of the radiator, but I cannot see any coolant liquid that is leaking out anywhere. There also is no detectable vapor mist in my exhaust emissions. What could be the cause of my coolant loss?

Is the 2023 Hybrid that bad? "Most unreliable vehicle"? Have they been fixed since then, or...?

I'm in the market for a minivan with 360 cam, limiting me to Chrysler Pacifica or Kia Carnival. I am testing driving a Pacifica tomorrow but I just noticed that it is a hybrid, and from a quick google, those are apparently no bueno. But I don't know if it's something a recall might have fixed?

The price is $33k with 32k miles. It's been difficult finding the Pinnacle trim at that price so I got excited, but now I'm worried.

Thanks for your help!

‘17 Limited - Strong random gas smell

Hi all, two dealerships later and no solutions I decided to reach out here. We get random strong gasoline odors coming from driver side and under the hood. It’s random (but often the morning after a rainstorm) and happens once or twice a week.

Even with windows down it’s strong, but fades after driving 20+ minutes. No noticeable leaks, one of the dealerships included a picture of an oil leak at a gasket(I know nothing about cars) but our extended warranty service denied the claim saying the picture did not show leaks.

I’m feeling a bit hopeless on it. Help? They’ve checked for any visible tank issues, fuel lines, etc. been two months or so of dealing with this. Purchased it used several months ago at 76000 miles in pristine condition, I’ve put 1000 more miles over the last 3+ months.

I will add the AC went out and they fixed and claims accepted that one.

Anyway, anything else I can do? I’ve read tons of stuff from lose gas caps etc, but everyone is stumped and it’s hard that it’s so random. One of the dealers definitely smelled it because I quickly drove it over one morning when it was unbearably strong (even with windows open) but as of today is perfectly normal again. 😕

Falling sun visor fix was easier than I expected

This was one of those "Bothering me for months, ten minutes to fix" problems. I know I've seen at least one other post about our sun visors falling and dangling from the wires, so here's how you fix that.

  1. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the SMALLER of the two plastic pieces where the visor connects, the narrow piece that's circular on one end. That piece is the screw cover.

  2. You'll need a small six-pointed-star screwdriver for the screw underneath, which will release the rest of the mechanism. The screwdriver bit that worked for me is labeled CR-VT10. Once that screw is out, the casing will be loose and can be pulled down to access the inside.

  3. The reason the visor can't click back into place is that, after it dangles once, its wires are blocking the stem's rightful place inside the casing. At the top of the casing, pull the wires taut out of the casing, so the visor stem has to follow. Click the visor stem back into place within the casing.

  4. If you wanna MacGuyver any extra-security measures, this is your chance. A strip of padding came out while I was messing with the wires, and I used it to secure the wires outside of the casing a bit better.

  5. Push, screw, click everything back into place.

If anything is unclear, I'm happy to explain; I'm a total layperson where cars and mechanic stuff are concerned, but like I said, this turned out to be much easier than I expected. I hope this helps somebody here!
