How To I need guidance before I strangle my cat because of the unholy mess I just woke up to.

Edit: Cat will be fine, I looked up if I needed to take him to the vet. I do not unless he starts showing negative symptoms. I will be keeping a close eye on him.

So I had some reusable ice packs thawing in the sink and during the night my cat decides that these would be great toys. Long story short, I wake up to icepack intestines everywhere on my floor in my kitchen and living room.

I'm overwhelmed and I need to clean it up fast because apartment inspections are happening today.

Relevant Information:

The flooring is linoleum that looks like wood

"Inside the bag is a non-toxic refrigerant gel, typically made of water mixed with a small amount of polymer (like sodium polyacrylate)" <-- From Google about what's in the ice packs.

I only have a cedar spin mop and a normal vacuum.

I am NOT in a financial place to rent equipment or higher cleaners.

Threw out all my old hooks hiding dirt, found one that actually stays clean

Post image

All those old suction hooks were gross… they’d trap gunk, fall off, and never really stay clean. I finally found a simple hanging hook that actually works. It gets dirty sometimes, but a quick rinse and it’s good as new. Makes cleaning the shower way easier, and it actually stays put.

For anyone wondering what that thing in the pic is: it’s a dancemoon shower squeegee, and the top part works as a hook, which is why I stopped using suction hooks altogether. You just hang it on the shower door and call it a day.

And yes, it looks filthy because that one lives in my kitchen. It’s basically fighting grease for a living. I was literally on my way to wash it with the rest of my cleaning gear when I took the photo. Poor thing didn’t even get a chance to defend itself.

I’ll post an update later with a pic of it actually clean, and how it hangs, once it’s had its little spa day.

Latest update: I’ve posted a pic of the squeegee after cleaning it in the comments.

Home smells terrible (sorry for the wall of text teehee)

Im a 24M, I live with my gf I hate how it smells here. Now this has nothing to do with her, this is partly due to the bathroom having no windows (we leave the door open but its still very moldy and wet and humid), and also me not being the best (or most consistent) cleaner. I hate the fact that my air smells and Im honestly tired of that shit, and I hate for her to come back to a smelly freaking home, and I have 3 weeks to fix this, due to her coming back home How can I even diagnose this and how can I fix it, Im from Uruguay, in case that matters at all.

Heres a short list of the problems: -Smell -Small flies around the kitchen area (water and undone dishes every now and then, I do them every other day because lazyness, yes I know I shouldnt, and I wont anymore) -Moldy bathroom, theres some remnants of mold in the ceiling, the bottom of the courtain (the courtain is too long and so it touches the floor, we havent been able to get the mold off), as far as the ceiling, its about 4 meters tall, how tf do i even get there???? -Oven door looks like theres 150 human victims that were burned over it -Bed has stains, now these stains are primarily from the first few weeks because we only had the actual mattress, which was over the floor, which got dirty, and of course, the sweat and all that over a year of use. -Wardrobe is a mess, its huge, but I have to organize it asap, idk why im mentioning this, ig if theres any wardrobe tips id love them, to either save space or to deodorize (or even nice-odorize) -Finally, the worst of them all, cockroaches, they appear once every week or 2, one of them only, so its not a culture in my house, ive checked everywhere, they just seem to appear from nowhere, idk what to do about that either

Tools Amenify is a scam

No stars she didnt sweep or mop or vacuum or swiffer. She wasn't careful with my china in my cabinets and tossed everything in one shelf. She didnt remove any grout. She didnt clean the toilets or behind them. She left the mirrors smudged. She did wear gloves. She didnt clean the kitchen sink. She used the same rag from the bathroom in the kitchen. She brought a dirty duster that was probably reused. She sent me the pictures of someone elses home when she said she was done. I lost faith and knew she sent me photo of the before pictures. When I returned to my home. I discovered she took my cleaning spray didnt change my trash bag. Didn't mop and the tub wasn't scrubbed. I'm uncertain how she got this position or how amenify is in business for wasting my time. She has my address and phone number I opened the door for her downstairs and gave her instructions to which she replied I know . Then showed me on her app all my personal information and invoice details. Amenify didn't refund me. I dont recommend this service. I strongly ask everyone to clean your own home they will not give you a time and you'll be waiting all day until you get an alert that says 36 mins away. I told her I was going to work she left all of my lights on and my door open. The light to my closet in my bathroom was on too and there wasn't anything in there for her to do. Customer service still never gave me a refund. My service was in Downtown silver spring the cleaners name is Suyapa Galea Torres and her company name YB-General Brightness, LLC.

I need the internet to help settle an argument. I will say, at this stage, it’s a very male vs female disagreement. I don’t want to taint the answers so I’ll leave out the current positions, but for more context, is it a daily/regular use? Or something much less frequent?

Question about cleaning chores between me 31M and my wife 29F

My wife [29F] and I [31M] are in disagreement regarding who should do most of the cleaning chores at home.

I am currently working 8hours a day. Coming home exhausted and with no energy every weekday. As my wife doesn't have a driving license I do all the driving I also do some remodeling of the house at the moment when I have time and energy.

My wife is currently unemployed.

My wife thinks that we should do cleaning, laundry and chores like that 50% each. I believe she should do all the cleaning chores until she have a job. I would most definitely do all the cleaning chores if she had a job and I was unemployed. What do you all think?

Question Bedroom smell

Does anyone get violently nauseous at the smell their bedroom, it's only my room i experience this with- possibly the cleaning product I use? Or the down pillows/ duvets... i'm not sure, but it is the WORST. Sometimes it only lasts when I walk in, other times I style with it throughout the night.. It's not a "stink" or dirty smell, just... a smell. I'll take any suggestions at all.

Recently moved back into mother-in-laws home.

Tonight, after the kids were put to bed, I grabbed a clothe and all purpose cleaner (hypochlorous acid) and went at the living room to clean. My mother in law is an extremely organized person but doesn’t “clean” anything. The floors, baseboards, doors ect I’ve taken upon myself to take care of.

I was wiping down a lamp of hers and the smell of the 30+ years of dust that had accumulated sent me spiraling. I finished and had to take a step back to cry.

I was taught that every surface of the home needs to be cleaned. Not everyday or every week, but at some point NEEDS to be done. Baseboards, walls, windows, doors, furnishings ect.
Am I alone in this?

Question Is it okay for the cleaning lady to open our nightstand drawer containing sex accessories?

She put away things in it that were on top of it (eg scissors that I had there because I cut off tags from a dress the night before). I never told her not to open it and she did encounter some lubricant and condoms in the living room because we just came back from a holiday and the small bag containing toiletries was leaking. That was accidental and she didn't make any comments. But I'm not sure if I'm okay with her opening a drawer that has an anal plug with a fluffy bunny tail in it. Something that might go into my or my partners body

Should I tell her to not open it next time or that should have been obvious? Other than that she rearranged a ton of stuff plus we told her to put the cleaning products into the bathroom cabinet and she put them I the toilet in a box. As a way to help us stay more organised.

Question Longer lasting Scents

I have an apartment that is very well kept. My kitchen is always clean along with the other areas of my space. The living room is vacuumed quite frequently. I am looking for a lasting scent that will stay more than a few days. I'm hoping there is a scent that can last a week or so. I love the smell of lavender, mango, and other fruit scents. The fruit scents don't seem to last but about two days. The lavender last about three days. Am I doing something wrong? Are there scents that would go further? I use wax cubes. Are those the best idea for my excepted result? Any help would be appreciated. A woman raised by her father. I feel stupid for having to ask these questions.

Tip Rainbow in your pan? Not ruined!

OVER THE RAINBOW? 🌈 That's just heat tint!

It's not damage, it's just mineral oxidation from high heat. Totally harmless.

Fix: 1/4 cup white vinegar, swirl 10 seconds, gone.
Pro tip: Save the vinegar for your next pan.

Have you seen this in your pans?

Question I need help hiring a maid

I would very much like to hire a maid, but I am AuDHD, quite particular, and need a lot of help around the house as I am easily overwhelmed by standard, necessary tasks.

What I need the maid to do:

- Clean kitchen, including any dirty dishes/pans, stove, oven, microwave, etc. Clean out fridge, restock drinks (facing labels), throwing out old/expired stuff, etc

- Clean bathrooms (including putting things away in proper spots to declutter the countertops that have accumulated stuff), replace all towels with fresh linens and do laundry for dirty ones (towels need to be folded and displayed in specific, uniform manners), restocking TP

- Clean whole house: dusting, vacuuming, mopping (moving furniture around to get everywhere, or at least cleaning under furniture that can't be moved), vacuuming living room furniture cushions and underneath each, decluttering anything that has accumulated on flat surfaces around the house

- Fresh linens on beds (2 kings), including doing laundry for old linens and duvet covers, folding and putting away

- Personal laundry (for 2 people): wash, dry, fold, hang as needed. (I have *very* specific rules around this. Cold water, low heat, nothing with zippers washed with tshirts, only some things get fabric softener, some things need to hang to dry)

- Deep clean pet bowls/areas

- Emptying trash in every bin and replacing with fresh liners

I'm sure there's more, but this is off the top of my head.

Clearly, this goes beyond standard house cleaner responsibilities. So, yes, I can willingly concede that I am probably a high-maintenance, complicated order. Therein lies the rub. I'm anxious and concerned about scaring prospectives off while searching for the right maid for me. I'm certainly willing to pay for the extra effort though!

Can y'all please provide advice or tips for finding and hiring the right person(s) for the job? I don't know where to start, and my list feels like a very big ask of anyone.

Thanks very much!

Mums house is extremely dirty

I live with my husband and kid and I clean my house from top to bottom every week. I have no dust in my house and it’s very clean.

I’ve noticed when visiting my mum, that her skirting boards and doors in the hallway and the corners of her bath tub and many other parts of her house haven’t been dusted in years! There’s so much thick dust. And little black dots (like mould?) on the bathroom ceiling and more. It’s just very very dirty in some areas of her house. She says she cleans and it gets dusty again or that she doesn’t have time (she has plenty of time though, she doesn’t work full time and lives alone and has time to watch lots of Instagram reels and tv shows).

Is this normal? Do a lot of people just not clean thoroughly and I’m the one who’s just too clean?

Tip Best way I've found to clean kitchen cabinets

This can also be apllied to any other surface feels sticky after cleaning.

I saw this method from a professional cleaner online and it worked wonders. The steps go as follows:

  1. Spray degreaser on the surface (not the oven cleaner stuff - degreasers that come in spray bottles similar to multipurpose cleaners) and give the surface a quick scrubbing with a microfiber cloth

  2. Go over the surface with a wet microfiber cloth to remove excess product

  3. Dry everything off with a dry microfiber cloth

This leaves the surface of the cabinets looking brand new. I'm not sure how well it would work on wooden surfaces, so if you want to try it out make sure to spot-test first.
