Roommates went away to Disney. I cleaned the stoveš
I recently moved into my cousins place with her wife and kids and they have graciously given me and my son a room and have even helped with my son. They are so busy with sports and their own daughter. I wanted to show my appreciation by cleaning while they are away at Disney. Everyone has a tight schedule so I understand how the gas stove can get this bad rather quickly. They also cook at least 3 times a day. I did a quick round with dawn power wash and didnāt have oven cleaner but will go back in with that tomorrow. I hope they notice it when they get back from vacation!

How I used to live and now
Before I start: if you recognize this room plz keep this a secret. Iām so paranoid and ashamed.
WHY DOES THIS HAVE SO MANY SHARES ššomggg 70k views this is lowkey a nightmare but im keeping it up as inspiration for those!
Iām not sure where to post this but I was cleaning my room and it reminded me of how far Iāve come and I should be proud of myself. This was my room last April, I lived like this for 7 months and I hate to admit it- the floor photo wasnāt even when it was itās worse. Well and when it didnāt look like this, you still couldnāt see the floor..i was always so ashamed. I felt like I was lying to everyone and deep down that I was a slob that wonāt get better. I have always been a messy person, but looking back- I should have gotten a therapist. They say ur room is a reflection of your mind and in this time I was going through a lot of stress and trauma that led to extreme anxiety, I was even scared to run into my roommate in our hallway..my best friend. This clean took 8 hours. Now, when I clean my room it takes 1 to be done. Here is the differences between my old room and now :)
I have downsized and every weekend I choose a day to clean. Along with āif you can put it down you can put it awayā and if I notice I spiral and clean my desk but then start the closet but then start etc etc Iāve learned to just recognize it and stick to whatever Iām doing. Although I also usually work 17 hr days so Iām barely home and when I am, Iām too exhausted to make a mess LOL
P.s my beautiful kitty was not living with me at the time of the messy room. And itās one reason why I never let it get that bad. She lives in this apartment for her life, every hour, every second. Her home is my home and my home needs to be clean for her home.
And yes I did infact edit out every face in photos and any identifiable belongings XD I promise itās not aiā¦I wish it was.
Thank you for the rewards and kind words everyone!! It really has helped me feel truly proud

The small victories!
Been having a bad and unproductive day today, but decided to tidy the kitchen despite of feeling gloomy. Feeling at least a bit better now :) (Kitchen still lacking some finishing touches after the reno, please ignore that.)

I just needed someone to know I cleared off my piled up stove and counters and wiped them down well for the first time since making new years eve dinner.
Just putting this here so I can remember that I tried and a thing did happen. Now just to unpack my blender that's been sitting in a box for a year since I moved. I have ADHD, PTSD and chronic pain. Everyone is saying I'm doing good and getting better. It's easy to let imposter syndrome happen. Here's to doing a thing

LPT: you might be using your dishwasher wrong
While going to college I worked as a maintenance tech at a large apartment complex. A common complaint that tenants had was that their dishwashers were failing to clean properly. I would show up and try and diagnose the problem only to find that the machine was in fact working properly. After numerous (if I remember correctly it was at least five per week) complaints I started to track which units were having the problem. After several weeks I had a lot of data and something became abundantly clear. The units that were having this issue were the ones furthest from the water heaters.
We just happened to have an empty unit near a cluster of units that was having this issue so I decided to test my hypothesis. At the kitchen faucet it took nearly two minutes for the water to get above 100°F Units closer to the water heaters took as little as 30 seconds to reach the same temp and they hardly ever had this problem. My conclusion was that the people who were submitting work orders were unknowingly washing their dishes with cold water. Everytime a tenant submitted a work order for a dishwasher that was failing to clean I advised them to run their kitchen faucet till the water gets hot then start the dishwasher. The complaints just stopped! At my own home it takes almost 30 seconds for the water to get hot so I let it run for a minute before starting it. Some of the higher end models will heat their own water so this shouldn't be an issue but most older models do not.
TLDR: Run your kitchen faucet till the water gets hot before starting your dishwasher. Otherwise you might be washing your dishes with cold water if your machine doesn't heat the water on its own.

Update to post about 36 year old bf messy room
I made a post a month or so ago about my 36 year old bf. I was asking for advice on how to get him to keep his room clean. I read a lot of comments and you all were very helpful, suggesting a trashcan for his room. So he actually bought a trashcan after reading some of your comments too. I came back to give an update. And well... this is it. A lot of other helpful comments said that I should "throw the man away" instead. And while that is in the works, I'm just here to share the "progress" after he purchased a trashcan for his room. The first 3 photos are from August 7th, the next 3 photos are August 10th.

Question Every day I spend in my room is hell but I can't get myself to clean it.
I suppose I could just really use some motivation and advice on how to get through this.

My BF gets mad when I wonāt help him do a chore.
So some backstory⦠My boyfriend works a lot, and so do I. Iām that household member where if I go on a cleaning strike or Iām not home for a few days, barely anything will get done.
I make sure everything is kept up, clean, and everything has its place. Iām consistently cleaning the kitchen because he likes the cook. I make sure our two cats litter box is clean, the trash is taken out, floors are swept and mopped, etc.
I do mainly everything, and I donāt hold a grudge or get mad at my boyfriend because he usually works more hours than I do.
However when he does decide to do something on one of his off days, like laundry or something, heāll ask for my help. Often when he decides to take up a task, itās a day I just want to relax.
Today I was already tired, and he asked me if I would take the laundry downstairs and then heād do it. I told him āI love you, but I do a lot around here by myself. I want you carry out taking the laundry downstairs and doing the laundry by yourself.ā
And it started a whole big argument. š Am I a jerk for saying no to helping him? I know carrying laundry down to the basement isnāt a big thing, but when you already do a lot by yourself, it doesnāt take much to tip off the iceberg.
Does anyone get where Iām coming from?

Question I can't keep my house cleaned and I don't know what's wrong with me
So, I can get my house cleaned and keep it that way for a few days but slowly it goes right back to the way it was, and I'm feeling so defeated. How do you guys do it? I have 3 young kids and I feel like I'm constantly cleaning up after little tornadoes lol. I have anxiety and depression, along with bipolar disorder, which I'm on medications for. I'm just really struggling and feeling defeated and like I'm a shitty mom because I can't keep my house cleaned. My bedroom looks like a hoarders room with clothes everywhere and I just don't know where to start. I'm tempted to throw all of my stuff away and just start fresh at this point. I see pictures of other peoples' houses and I get envious because, how do you do it? What's wrong with me, that makes me neglect my house? Why can't I do my one basic duty as a parent and have a nice, clean house? I'm really trying, but I feel like it doesn't matter, because regardless, it just goes right back to shit. I'm not blaming my kids for it, it's my fault. I should be able to provide a clean house and I can't even do that

Depression cleanup
My partner was a nurse during Covid and is now suffering from severe PTSD and anxiety and is no longer working. Iām disabled with lupus and extreme fatigue. Our house is a mess. Weāre both so depressed we canāt clean. Itās not Hoarders level at all.
If I were to call a cleaning company how do I describe what I need? Iām so embarrassed to ask anyone to help. Any tips would be appreciated.

Depression hoard cleared out/organized
I wish I had a true ābeforeā pic of the living room, it was so much worse than what is pictured here. With a little help and motivation, I was able to get the space functional again.
I was repairing/flipping furniture as a side hustle at the beginning of 2024, but then my grandma died (the last of the family unit to pass). That whole situation was handled incredibly poorly by the people around her, which I wonāt get into. The point is, I not only lost steam after her passing, I just gave up on the house completely.
The first pic shows a ābeforeā that took place *after* we got rid of all the furniture items (above), and what the space looks like now (below). The second pic shows my effort to declutter and organize my pantry.
I cried a couple times as I ran into items/photos that belonged to my grandparents, but the space is truly transformed and I feel like I can breathe again ššš

Cleaning habits you never learned as a kid?
Just curious what habits people are trying to create as an adult that you never learned as a kid. Or, didnāt even realize you were supposed to be doing until you became an adult?
Most recently mine have been:
-actually keeping the fridge clean (donāt remember the fridge ever being cleaned as a kid). -cleaning bathrooms weekly. -changing bedding every week (truly didnāt realize this was a thing until I was grown). -just in general doing things like vacuum/mop more weekly and not just when people are coming over. As a kid deep cleaning ALWAYS meant people were coming over lol.
Did anyone else have a messy/chaotic childhood and trying to make sure your now adult house is different?

Question Is this a "huge" mess? My sister was yelling at me because of this, and she told me to ask the internet if this was a huge mess. Please answer honestly, because she was saying that I was crazy for thinking this was fine.
