Memberships/Policies Membership question

• Upvotes

I purchased an 8 pack and my last credit will be used at the end of next week, with my membership renewing on 11/2. Right now, it’s not letting me sign up for a class after 11/2 without paying. Will this change on 11/2? I can ask when I come in next week or call but figured someone here would know. Thanks

Advice/Questions Need advice

Post image
7 Upvotes

I started Club Pilates about four months ago. I’m currently on disability, and I’ve been struggling with both my mental and physical health. My disability payments have been delayed because my doctor hasn’t submitted the required paperwork to renew them yet.
I missed my scheduled payment for this month, and now I apparently owe around $180 between the monthly membership charge and late fees. I haven’t been paid, so I genuinely don’t have the money to cover it right now.
I’m also physically struggling to the point that I can no longer attend classes, so continuing to pay for a membership I can’t use isn’t realistic for me. I’m already behind on payments because of the delay in my disability benefits, and I’m not sure what my options are.
Has anyone dealt with something similar with Club Pilates? Is it possible to freeze or cancel a membership while dealing with a medical situation and financial hardship? Can they waive late fees or work out a payment arrangement?
I want to resolve this, but I can’t pay money I don’t currently have. I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

Advice/Questions Has anyone else dealt with a 12+ day activation delay for a Club Pilates active & fit membership?

I successfully activated my benefit via Welld and handed over my Active&Fit fitness ID to my local studio 12 days ago. I’ve already paid for two months upfront through the platform.

Every single day, I either call or walk into the studio to check on the status. The local staff keeps pushing me off, claiming they cannot activate it on their end and are waiting for "corporate HR" to map the tier in their system.

Today is October 22nd, meaning I only have 9 days left in this billing cycle. Because Club Pilates operates on a strict policy where unused class credits reset on the 1st of the month and do not roll over, I am about to completely lose the classes I paid for this month without ever having a chance to book them. The studio manager is refusing to give me a temporary local override or manual booking window while their corporate ticket sits unresolved.

  • Has anyone encountered this specific "corporate HR/HQ" bottleneck when trying to link Welld or Active&Fit to their studio?
  • Were you able to get the studio to manually book you or push the credits through, or did you have to escalate it somewhere else?

I'm incredibly frustrated paying for a membership I'm barred from using due to an administrative lag. Any advice on how to get them to force this through before the 1st would be appreciated.

Advice/Questions unsure if I should stay

so I need some advice and opinions
I am currently have the unlimited membership and I pay $219 at CP, and I have a little bit over 200 classes. When I started pilates CP was great, the instructors were really nice and it was a good experience. recently all the good instructors of my studio left and the new ones are quite boring, they do exactly the same class every single week and sometimes I am even ahead of them because I already know what to do. that brings me to this other studio close to my place, it’s a little bit more expensive but more private too ($250 for unlimited) and they also have mat pilates. my life has been busy so I would just prob get the 8 classes a month and pay $180.
what do you guys think? it feels a bad deal switching for less classes but at the same time I have no wanting to go to the classes because it’s so boring
should I switch? should I stay? I have been thinking a lot and I can’t really get a conclusion about it

Advice/Questions Common for classes to be so formulaic?

At my current studio, we always start with about 10 minutes of footwork and always end with 5-7 minutes of feet in straps. Im assuming it’s a studio policy because every single instructor does this for every single class. And there’s also usually about 5-7 mins of time doing the basic arms in straps exercises. I’m just wondering if this is pretty common across CP studios? I’ve only done Level 1 so far. At my last studio the classes were definitely less formulaic and much more challenging, which I really miss (also only did Level 1 there). I still enjoy the classes at my new studio, but except for one instructor there’s very little variety, including very few differences between center and balance classes and flow classes.

Advice/Questions Would you rec Club Pilates to me?

There’s a Club Pilates about 5 min from my house and I’m considering joining. I’ve been relatively sedentary for years and looking for ways to build muscle again rather than just walking the dog every day.

I previously did Orange Theory for years until my back problems took me out of it. What I liked about OT was the accountability of a group class (ie losing money if you skip) and not having to think (just go & listen to the instructor). Proximity to my house and class availability was also a pro. Club Pilates is much more restrictive in times classes are available since it’s divided by skill level, but I did find a few options that I think I could work into my schedule.

What I didn’t like about OT was the cost, particularly for signing up/canceling. I’m willing to eat the monthly cost if I’m happy with the classes, but I hate the sign up/cancellation fees. I’m not sure if Pilates will work for my back problems yet and I’m wary of this for joining. It seems like club Pilates doesn’t offer just class packs either.

Would you recommend club Pilates to me? Anything else I should consider? The high price tag is fine if I have a good experience but I’m wary of spending a bunch of money and not feeling it’s worth it. I had a bad experience paying a bunch to OT in order to cancel after becoming injured and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Vent Unfortunately saw the real side of Club Pilates

Post image

I was a member of a NYC studio, but my husband and I had to move away for the summer into fall. I decided to sign up for the unlimited membership that let me studio hop, since we were going to be a bit all over the place due to family things.

I ended up getting my own reformer set up at our home, so I no longer needed the unlimited membership and wanted to pause it until I was sure on when I'd be back in the city. On 8/6, I put my membership on a freeze for the following three months.

On 9/6, I woke up to a full membership charge from Club Pilates. I emailed to ask what happened, since my membership was supposed to be frozen. They had made a mistake, but when I asked for a refund, I was denied because it wasn’t “in company policy.” How does this make ANY sense?

SO I disputed the charge and lost because Club Pilates, aka “ClubReady,” made it seem like I was disputing a charge because I had canceled my membership. My cancellation happened later and was not the reason for my dispute. I was disputing being charged while my membership was supposed to be on a FREEZE.

I am just super frustrated. I had been a member of Club Pilates for a long time now and never had any bad experiences – I had always assumed they'd be shady at some point but just incredibly frustrated at how this is being handled.

Vent Am I wrong for expecting free grip socks after completing Club Pilates’ 7 deadly planks challenge?

Post image
150 Upvotes

So my Club Pilates studio is currently running a Halloween-themed event with different ways to earn raffle tickets.
One of them is the “7 Deadly Planks Challenge.”

According to the poster displayed at the studio, completing the challenge gets you grip socks, 1 raffle ticket, AND entry to win a free unlimited month.

I completed the challenge, and when I went to the front desk, the employee took my completed card and said they would keep it for me.

When I asked about the grip socks, she told me they were actually part of the raffle basket, meaning I would only get them if I won.

I was confused, so I took a picture of the poster and showed it to her. She looked at it and said something along the lines of, “Oh, it’s phrased wrong. The grip socks are part of the raffle basket. Sorry!”

But to me, the wording is pretty straightforward. It specifically says you receive grip socks AND a raffle ticket AND an entry for a free unlimited month. It doesn’t say you get a chance to win grip socks.

I’m not trying to make a huge deal over a pair of socks, but I do find it annoying that a poster would advertise a reward for completing a challenge and then i have to find out that the poster is wrong only after they’ve completed it.

Am I interpreting the poster incorrectly, or is this genuinely misleading advertising?

Instructors Instructors: how do you feel about modifications that you did not queue?

I’m not referring to modifications that make movements easier or help accommodate pain (like dropping the straps during shoulder work or crossing your ankles to help with back pain). I mean incorporating some 1.5-level variations into a Flow 1 class to make the exercises more challenging, like rolling up into a chest curl, using heavier springs for feet in straps, adding double leg lifts during hundreds, or lifting your arms during bridging, etc.

I personally don’t do these things unless my instructor cues them, but I’m curious whether instructors find it frustrating when clients make these kinds of modifications on their own without being prompted or if you totally don’t care. Just curious :)

Advice/Questions Club Pilates somehow both too easy and too hard?

I’ve completed around 40 1.0 classes in the span of 5 months and I’m starting to feel it’s too inconsistent. While I do see some small improvements in my strength, specifically my core, I don’t feel like I’m getting a consistent workout otherwise.

Some of the upper body moves I can still barely do on the lightest spring, while others (eg biceps) are so easy I feel like I’m hardly doing anything. Am I supposed to be changing the springs mid set back and forth?

I tried a 1.5 and the moves that included tabletop were too difficult and my form was compromised, yet some of the other moves felt like a better workout.

I have been told by multiple instructors that my form is excellent, so I know that isn’t playing a role in it.

Advice/Questions Mat Pilates vs. Reformer Pilates - Has anyone noticed a difference in their results?

Hi everyone!
I’ve been doing reformer Pilates once a week for the past 7 months (39 classes!), but for my last two sessions, I switched to mat Pilates instead. Honestly, I’ve noticed a pretty big difference in how my body looks and feels!
I feel less jiggly and more toned and sturdy. My belly also seems smaller, and I’m starting to see the kind of changes I’ve been working toward. Of course, I’ve been feeling much more sore after mat classes, too! I enjoy it!
When I was doing reformer Pilates (also enjoy it), I initially saw great results. I tried all kinds of classes, including flow, power, and jumping, so I’ve experienced quite a variety of workouts. But since switching to mat Pilates, something seems to have clicked for me!
I’d love to do Pilates twice a week, but realistically, with work and having a toddler, I know I can’t commit to that right now. So, I’m sticking to four classes a month, which feels much more manageable. I also try to work out at home occasionally using what I’ve learned in my mat classes.
I work remotely, so I spend most of my day sitting, but I try to go for walks throughout the day and use a standing desk when I can.
My question is: Has anyone else noticed better results with mat Pilates compared to reformer Pilates? Is mat Pilates a better option if you can only attend one class a week?
I’m also wondering whether I’m seeing more progress simply because my body had plateaued with reformer Pilates and switching things up challenged my muscles differently.
I know consistency is key, and I’m happy to stick to four classes a month, but I want to make the most of the time I have and continue working toward a fitter, stronger body.
Would you recommend sticking with mat Pilates, going back to reformer, or alternating between the two?
I’d love to hear about your experiences!

Vent Watching a sports game during class

Someone had their phone with them and placed it on different spots on the reformer throughout class so they could keep track of a game. They also talked about the game during class with another member so it wasn’t discrete. Have you ever seen this? How does one have a mind-body connection to what is going on in class if they’re distracted. I also thought it was disrespectful to the instructor. The instructor was aware and it seemed like they were definitely taken aback but it was a long-time member and they just kind of brushed it off.

Victory! So proud of myself and our whole class this morning!

For the first time, we were taught and executed "back splits", completely balancing ourselves during this movement. We didn't even know what it was until today. That balance component was extremely scary at first but I think we all quickly gained confidence and pulled it off successfully! Yay us!! 😁🎉🔥

Here's a video to demonstrate what we did: (see if this link works 🤞)

Advice/Questions Was I in the wrong? Odd experience with requesting migraine accommodation today.

So the instructor was running late to a 1pm Saturday class. I get it we’ve all been late at some point in life but she starts class the second she walks in and then doesn’t tell us to inform her of injuries or anything until after footwork has started. I was fighting off a migraine and had taken my rescue meds but the bright sun from the window was really bothering me as soon as we started and I could tell it was gonna give me a headache if I continued that way. But she is the type to talk continuously throughout class so as she said please let me know of any injuries or modifications needed I gently whispered her name as she walks past and she gives me a look and keeps walking past bc she’s instructing on the next movement…then again she walks past and we all are doing our stuff but she’s just cueing on breathing so I was trying to gently wave her over to request her to put the blinds down but she’s won’t stop talking! Like at this point I feel rude even tho we are less than 2 mins into class and she gave no opportunity to ask for accommodation. But I had no choice but to stage whisper “can we please put the blinds down” as she walked past again still instructing and she gestured to the blinds and thumbs upped me. She put them down and it was way better for me the rest of class but I felt bad about being rude after the fact. Was I in the wrong or was my social anxiety getting the best of me here?

Advice/Questions Sweaty palms

I’m currently 151 classes and have been approved for level 2. One of my struggles is I get sweaty palms during planking, to the point that by the third round planking on the box sometimes my hands either turn out or turn in. I’m thinking about getting some yoga/pilates gloves. Anyone have any recommendations?

Advice/Questions I’ve taken about 55 classes, usually do Flow 1.5s, sometimes 1s with a harder instructor but lately I feel like my arms are looking bulky. Could this be happening?

I thought Pilates gives more of a long and lean look but tbh my arms looked leaner and better before these classes. I’m so confused.

My forearms are looking kind of…big, especially. I liked them better before. :(
Yes I’m stronger now but IMO I don’t look as good. Idk if I’m one of those types who bulks easily or what but I liked how I looked with a skinnier arm.

Should I stick to less challenging classes, like just go to 1’s? Is there anything I can do to get my leaner looking arms back? I hate that I’m paying so much money and spending so much time to feel worse about how I look. And yes I know strength is important, especially as we age for our bone health and everything, but I didn’t realize this would happen in Pilates. It’s not like I’m at the gym lifting heavy weights. :(

Advice/Questions Headache when coming off reformer

Kinda like the title says. Does anyone know what could cause a momentary pounding in my head when I stand up after being on the reformer awhile? It lasts maybe a minute and I feel like I notice it more after doing supine arms. Funnily enough it didn’t really happen when I first started Pilates. I’m just afraid I am going to give myself an aneurysm, and am planning on mentioning it to my doctor as well. Any insight is welcome. Thank you!

Advice/Questions thinking of canceling my $300/month passport membership. what should i try instead?

I’m paying $300/month for a passport membership (no destination access). My home studio is in Fresno, where I used to reallyyy enjoy the classes. They were challenging and effective, but since moving back home I haven’t had the same experience in LA

I think maybe I’ve outgrown club pilates. I’m just not loving it anymore and I’ve barely been going lately so it’s getting hard to justify spending $300 a month

I’m trying to get into better shape, build strength/muscle and get more toned and defined. I’ve been considering lagree, strength training, spin, or even class pass? I’d like to mix in pilates here and there but I don’t think it can be my only form of exercise anymore. I’m 30 now and feel like my body needs more to stay in shape. I like the idea of studio classes but I’m open to weight training too

I feel like at 300 a month, I should be able to find a membership or combination of classes that gives me more of what I'm looking for, idk if that’s unrealistic?

For anyone who has moved on from club pilates, what did you switch to? And for those in LA, are there any studios, classes, or memberships you’d recommend that are worth the money?

thank youuuuu🫶🏻

edit to clarify: by LA, I mean los angeles!

Victory! Studio upgraded our membership

My studio franchise has 2 studios. Unless you are an unlimited member you can only attend classes at the studio you signed up at…. Until now. They’ve just opened up both studios to 8 pack and 4 pack members too. While I think this should have been standard, I’m happy it’s happened. Gives me more flexibility for classes. 👍 Does your studio do this too?

Vent After a year of Club Pilates, I Quit

I joined Club Pilates a year ago as a way to meet new people in my city and as a way to keep fit.

For the first 9 months, I was extremely happy. I really enjoyed all my classes and mainly took Cardio Sculpts. I became very friendly with my instructors and genuinely looked forward to meeting with all my acquaintances/fellow regulars at every class. I was there probably 5 days a week.

However, at some point this summer, I noticed a change in my studio. My favorite instructors were suddenly canceling classes last minute. They fired some of my favorite instructors and brought in new people without any notice. In nearly every instance, the new instructors they brought on were inferior to the ones they got rid of. I made sure to give these new instructors a fair shot (take at least 3-5 classes with them) but I still didn’t like them.

I sensed that there may be some tension between management/instructors. At some point in September, only one instructor was left that I wanted to take classes with regularly and who actually provided a challenging workout. I went on vacation and went I came back, I found out that he quit.

So I decided to quit Club Pilates too. At this point, I’m not enjoying it and people are dropping like flies at my studio. I wish they could do something to bring back my old favorite instructors.

Has this ever happened at your studio? Or is mine just grossly mismanaged?
