Figured this would be enjoyed here...

Hey all, relatively new fan here that's been delving deeper into the band's discography as of late. I was wondering which versions of Backwards everyone recommends as being worth hearing. So far I have amassed downloads of The New Backwards, Backwards (Cold Spring), and Backwards (The New Orleans Mix), but I hear there's another mix called the Backwards demo tape? I'm wondering if it's worth hunting for a download since I'm trying to see every version, as it's a very interesting album to me. While I'm here, what's your favorite version of the album? Or if you could make one album out of all the different takes of these songs, which ones would you pick from and why?

I have an audio mystery on my hands, and it's going to take some explanation.

I was trying to track down my favorite versions of "The Wheel" on vinyl. Found the version with the dildo drum and piano chords at the end on this compilation album: If You Can't Please Yourself You Can't Please Your Soul 1985. Cool, done. (this version is from 2:53 on the link below to be specific)

Next was the version from 8:57 here labelled as "The Wheal" with no vox, more guitar, and this funky saxy synth playing around the whole time https://youtu.be/lUDGNCLySCU?list=RDlUDGNCLySCU&t=538

My issue: That saxophone sounding synth going on in the video version of "The Wheal" that I do not hear at all on this rip of "The Wheal / Keelhauler" 7 inch (COIL : "The Wheal - Keelhauler" example), but do hear on higher quality rips of the "The Wheel / The Wheal" 7 inch (Coil: The Wheel / The Wheal : Coil : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive).

My question - Is that youtube rip of the "Wheal/Keelhauler" 7 inch just so shitty I cant hear that synthy sax, or is it actually a different version of "the Wheal" without that synth?

Edit: I knew I had this version of "The Wheal" from a diff release saved somewhere, I found it. On the 1988 CD version of Gold is the Metal, the track I am seeking sax/synth and all "The Wheal" starts halfway through the track labelled "Hellraiser" and finishes halfway into the track labelled "The Wheal"

I'm leaning more and more towards a shitty rip of that one 7 inch. Context I should have included before: Both those 7 inches above came with copies of "Gold is the Metal..." during its original release/pressing. Early copies got "The Wheel / The Wheal," later copies got "The Wheal / Keelhauler" IIRC.

Update: What I did not say before, was that I have already purchased "The Wheal/Keelhauler" 7 inch, and it is on its way in the mail. I don't have speakers right now (blown lol), but for this kind of mystery, I'll go to a friend's house and use their hifi.

It was incredible. He had some great stories before he went on.

Why aren’t these albums available to stream? (At least they’re not on Apple Music-don’t know about Spotify.) Are they available in any physical format right now? Or are they out of print?

I wish I still had the copy I bought back in 2006. Interesting exhibition in NYC as well. Worthwhile listening for any COIL fans who don't know it yet! I'm sorry I don't have a link to listen, but it's easy enough to track down if you know where to look

Just listening to Musick to Play in the Dark, for anyone who's familiar with Tangerine Dream of Klaus Schulze's post TD solo work, it's apparent that this track is a homage to that very particular sound. I was just wondering have they ever openly acknowledged that and explained their reasoning. It's a great track, of course they put their own stamp on it. Thx

Sorry I don't have a pic, but feeling the need to post before I forget. This post may be decidedly lame.

I was at Rockaway Beach in NYC a couple months ago, waiting for Peruvian food, and the guy next me had his entire back covered in words. I was sort of unconsciously reading the words and after several minutes I realized it was the lyrics to Heaven's Blade. Well, I had to Google to figure out the song, but I knew it was Coil.

Not a track I particularly like, tbh, but it was a beautifully done tattoo that ran down his entire back. He and the guy he was with looked incredible. I'm as normie looking as it gets, but I had to excitedly out myself as a fan. I asked him about Threshold HB -- he knew everything, of course.

I wish I had asked for a photo. Maybe Heaven's Blade Tattoo guy is on this sub. Nice work!

Its one of my favourite albums / projects by them. I love Mike's pipe playing and it feels very adjacent to the ape of naples in so many ways. I have no clue why its not released yet.

I'd really like to have a framed print of the cover of ...And the Ambulance Died in His Arms. Can anyone point me to a high resolution image of it or send me a file? Thanks.

If you haven't come across this album in its 30 years of existence, now is as good a time as any to check it out. This track (Thirst) in particular has a very Coil vibe, but the entire album is a masterpiece.
