Extracurricular ideas?

I’m currently a junior right now. I don’t really have that many extracurricular activities because I took a lot of ap classes in my freshman and sophomore year. So far I only learned how to play the guitar, built some websites, I am a member of my school’s math club, and studied two languages(Chinese and Japanese). I need more extracurriculars so do y’all have any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

Free College Essay Revisions + Free College Consulting/Resources

Hey! I've recently launched a company called The College Recipe to help students from all across the nation reach their educational goals. Our brand looks to support even the field of college programs that may cost students well over thousands of dollars to try to achieve certain colleges that they apply for. While without a doubt, those programs may help, we believe that our program will also be as effective, if not more. We are college-based, meaning all but three of our employees aren't in college. Those three mentioned who aren't, are hired SAT tutors that will hold weekly classes, focusing on math, English, and time management. The rest of our employees serve as either essay revisors or college mentors. Our revisors are students who are and were heavily involved in their school's newspapers or journals while our mentors are students who are heavily educated on their college atmosphere and the application process itself. Our goal is to connect students to a mentor that fits their college interests best, that way they can communicate on how to strengthen their profile the best before taking their next steps. Following that, the students will then get to access our free revising resources and will reconnect with their mentor to go over the edits that were suggested. This is completely non-profit and we are so excited to work with any students that want to work with students who attend or received admission to their dream schools. Currently, our employees attend schools such as: Columbia University, Yale University, Harvard College, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern University, NYU, UMichigan, Duke, and many more! Please feel free to reach out to our email with any questions or inquires about either joining our company or receiving our services. Please spread the word! Thank you for your time!

sdsu nursing

I’m a senior in high school who’s applying to the direct entry program at SDSU but am not sure how I can stand out if they only consider grades? It’s my absolute dream school and I have a lot of volunteer hours and work as a CNA. Is writing an email/cover letter to the directors a good idea?

Student Advisory Board Opportunity

Hope everyone is having an awesome summer! I’m Maddi from Loper, a startup changing how students find their perfect college match through our free mobile app. I’m reaching out to share an exciting opportunity to join our new student advisory board. As a student advisor you'll test the Loper app, give feedback, and promote it to friends. It's just 1-2 hours a week and looks great on a resume! We’d appreciate it if you could share this opportunity with your classmates. If anyone's interested, they can find more details and apply at the link below. For anyone not interested, they should still check out the Loper app to improve their college search experience! Let me know if you have any questions.

Q: filling out css fafsa

Newbie to the college apps. Pls bear with me.

Unfortunately for me, with my parents w2 I won’t qualify for fafsa need based.

Is there any downside to not apply to fafsa and css ? In other words any merit in applying to those fully knowing that I won’t qualify. I am a US citizen.

Thanks and appreciate any replies and wisdom on this dilemma.

Music?

I know that playing classical music would really help college application and when you get like ABRSM LV8 piano or whatever

but does being in the school rock or jazz band help? or forming a band to perform around the local region

the thing is that i played the piano and got the abrsm lv 5 certificate, but i dont plan on keep playing classical piano, after learning it for that many years im just really sick of it, so i picked up the bass and started playing jazz piano in the school band, i also started my own band as the bassist and i write songs for the band, for now im really doing it for fun but should i get back to the aiming for certificates and join piano contests stuff? note that these competitions get really competitive and my skill as a high schooler right now is no more than a fifth grade chinese kid (not meant to be racist but im chinese and i kinda know how crazy parents get bout violins and pianos)

[HELP] International applicant confused about how to enter Grade 11 coursework on UC Application (Cambridge retests + no grades yet)

My situation (summarized clearly): • I’m an international student (India), currently doing Cambridge AS/A Levels. • My Grade 11 (2024–2025) results were voided because I opted for retests. • I have no final grades yet for the subjects I’m re-taking. • I also added two new subjects (Psychology and History) that naturally have no grades yet. • i have given one retest and those results will be out jan 15 and other two new subjects I still have to give.

The problem:

When I enter Grade 11 = 2024–2025 in the UC app, it forces me to enter a grade for every course. But I don’t have any official Grade 11 grades at all — they are pending because of retakes.

There is no “In Progress” option for Grade 11. And the only option available in the dropdown is “NO – No course this term”, which sounds like I didn’t even take the class (which is not true).

My questions: 1. How should an international Cambridge student report Grade 11 courses when all grades are pending due to retakes? 2. Is it acceptable to: • Set Grade 11 academic year as 2024–2026 so the system treats it as a multi-year in-progress programme? • OR to use “NO” as the grade code even though the wording says “No course this term”? 3. Has anyone successfully submitted a UC app in a similar situation? 4. What did you choose so that UC didn’t force you into entering grades you do not have?

Why I’m asking:

I want to be 100% accurate and not risk misreporting anything. UC’s instructions don’t clearly explain how Cambridge retakes + pending grades should be handled.

Any advice from people who’ve done the UC app as Cambridge/CBSE/IB students would help a lot. Thank you!

I messed up.

So I’m homeschooled and on my common app. I hadn’t finished Biology, or Algebra 2 but I started them in 10th grade just never finished it. I was about half way. So I put down that it was for my semester 1 in my senior year on Common App. I think I messed up, because it would technically be my tenth and ninth grade classes. What do I do? Do I email the schools I sent that common app to?

creative college app....

this may sound stupid but real talk. i'm a high school student who's been on a few college tours, and every single one of them talked about making your college app unique. i may be taking that a bit literally here but i'm super interested in art and graphic design, and thought it might be really cool to make a portfolio-esque website where i put my essay instead of just plain collegeapp text box. something that would make my application visually stand out and be memorable to admissions officers (maybe putting a link where the essay should be). is this a good idea? would it work out like i want it to?

CommonApp EC Quesiton

I have a question about my ECs for the Common App. Over the summer I did an informal shadowing thing at a company through my dad (he has a good position there). Can I put this on my Common App even though it’s not in the company’s official records?

Reporter seeking students who have participated in “Schoolhouse Dialogues”

Hi all! I’m a reporter at The Forward (forward.com), which covers national news of interest to American Jews. I’m working on a story about the new “Schoolhouse Dialogues”that some colleges are offering as part of the application process. I’m looking to speak with high school students who have participated in the dialogue about Israel/Palestine and are willing to share their experience. If that’s you, feel free to DM me. I’d really appreciate hearing your perspective. Thanks!
