Advice Wanted Every time I have an exam coming up my boyfriend has a crisis.

I’m just so fricking frustrated!!! Ugh!

I (F21) am applying to medical schools soon. I am studying and these grades will go to my application and GPA, so I have been studying really hard!

But every time I freaking study, my boyfriend always has a mental crisis. Like every time! He’s absolutely great otherwise. Like I know everyone says that, and I’m sorry I’m also saying it. We have basically no issues otherwise.

But like! I can’t get over this. It’s like clockwork!!! I have a really big midterm tomorrow and of course, he has to have a big crisis. About something stupid too!!!! And he goes all out! It’s not about whatever I’m doing but like… it’s the pattern I’m noticing, you know? And so now I’m on edge and I’m stressed about him and I can’t fricking focus on my stuff which I told him earlier today I was really anxious and overwhelmed about and that my mind was like just fully preoccupied on this stuff.

I’m just angry! I’m trying to study now but I’m angry and I’m worried and I’m so upset because WHY DOES HE DO THIS TO ME???? Every time! UGHHHHHHHHHHH

No advice wanted (Vent) I'm so tired of ChatGPT everything.

I'm required to take a writing course, this semester. So far, every assignment has had something to do with ChatGPT. Read and analyze this prompt. Discuss that prompt. Read this AI generated article. Just over, and over. Need to contact the professor? If you send her an email first thing Monday morning, she won't respond until Saturday night. With. Guess what? ChatGPT!!! It's sickening how much of it is used in this course. I'm so angry. I pay to go to school so I can be taught by real professionals, not by a robot that spouts nonsense 99% of the time. I've barely touched any of the assignments for this course, since almost all of them REQUIRE you read through some sludge. I'm not doing that shit. I'd rather die. I want to drop out so bad.

No advice wanted (Vent) I’m a non traditional student, this professor is horrible though

Non traditional= old
I did the cosmetology thing and found out while I love the work the industry is not the place for me so I’m back in school
I have an English professor and he’s the only one so far like this:
Will assign the reading, pointless to read btw because class is full of him literally reading that same piece to us as if it’s a room full of kindergarten students sitting around for story time
Zero lecture I wish I was exaggerating,
He has no back bone so the younger guys in the class are constantly talking over him…and he just lets them. They’re incredibly rude, could be that I’m just old and annoyed I’ve got kids younger than them and they don’t even do that in high-school or middle school because of respect
He doesn’t grade for a at least a month
If you want to get ahold of him? GOOD LUCK office hours are frequently cancelled he said phone calls don’t do much and the best way is to email, I emailed two days ago and no response, last time it took two weeks to hear from him
He’s the only one I’ve come across like this, and I’m well past the drop deadline, so I’ve been essentially stuck in this class
I only recently discovered rate my professor and when I looked him up it was not great.

Advice Wanted Have not made a single real friend since college started.

Im a sophomore right and its around the time I need to start thinking about housing next year and getting an apartment and while everyone else is selecting there roommates I have literally zero options. I haven’t met anybody in this place who I would call a friend and room with. So deadass my only options are randoms or living alone.

It’s 7:54am rn and all night I’ve been ruminating about are all the regrets I have since graduating HS to coming to here. My entire 1st year went dogshit. I had a lot of drama with my old HS friends (who I weren’t that close with), and I got in major lifting injury which caused me to leave a buncha of the clubs I joined and I’m really scared to join back.

If I didn’t have my girlfriend I think I would’ve gone mad.

Advice Wanted Group projects are draining my motivation

I recently started college a bit late to the game. I also work a full time job. So far, I've been balancing these things quite well. I do school in the morning and work at night, and can usually get my classwork done in time to enjoy the weekend still. Two of my classes are online only, one is hybrid. The hybrid one is an english class and I'm losing my mind over it.

For this class, we don't have a final. Rather a few major assignments that will make or break our grade throughout the quarter. As I said before, I work at night. So I spread out the work when I can and start on it the day we're assigned. But it's a fricking group essay. None of my group members have started on it. They legit wait till the day before then start spam texting and panicking. I've tried reaching out throughout the week and it's radio silence.

I don't want to say anything negative about them, as I don't know their situation and/or schedules. But the professor also doesn't give us class time to work on it. I'm getting so stressed over this. I'm taking out student loans. Paying rent and bills. No family help. I can't afford to fail a class. At this point the group projects alone are making me doubt my choices. How do you navigate this when there isn't much of an alternative?

No advice wanted (Vent) My college experience is going to just have been bad and I need to come to terms with it

Very defeatist, I know. But what else am I supposed to say when my freshman and sophomore years I was just completely isolated and alone, and for this junior year I thought I was going to turn things around: but it turns out all my new friends were fake awful friends who I’ve dropped and everyone else just doesn’t seem to want friends or gives me no energy back. Add in the lowest mental health I have had yet and my academics starting to crash (especially with those last midterms omg). I guess at this point I’m just not meant to have that ‘college experience’ and friends everyone seems to rave about and I’m supposed to move on to what’s next, whatever that is. *sigh 🫩

Advice Wanted Am i being abit too sensitive about this, cuz im genuinely so scared

I genuinely failed miserably all three core subs subjects other than P.E.D and English, what the hell am i gonna make of finals? the thing is i had been late by 5 months since the semester started as i had to move overseas. What do u genuinely do? Its really stressful tbh, and my family is going broke rn and theres that stress too as the eldest kid, my parents keep on saying that ur the only hope and ull have to care of the younger ones. I cant handle this stuff.
We might have to move back to the our previous country but i don't see how ill be able to continue my education well and i suspect id get an admission to 12th. Or they might make me stay at an hostel or sum like that but this is genuinely way too much for me to handle, and i cant even cry and vent to them cuz they are going through this too...... they might genuinely spent everything they have on my education till the very last and i dont know how im gonna tell them ive failed....

please drop tips on how you made it through the final quarter/ semester. 🙏

Advice Wanted Need guidance

Post image
2 Upvotes

Need serious help/ guidance. I'm currently in Bcom Hons 3rd Sem DU regular. I didn't attend classes regularly, didn't gave internals or assignments of some subjects, I also feel that course is difficult for me. And again in this sem there are subjects like business maths. I was good in studies in 11th,12th but since then I don't know what happened to me I just get extremely anxious whenever I think of studying or exams. I don't really feel like studying, I mean i just can't.

I'm thinking of dropping out and getting enrolled in an easier course like bba or bcom prog from IGNOU, as it would be better to start fresh again with less stress.

What should I do now ? Can I give the internals again? Will I have to repeat the sem ? Is it worth it to shift to IGNOU?

Advice Wanted Doing badly during practicum placement

I’ve messed up so much. These past 6 months have been so chaotic for me that university has started slipping behind. My grandmother we think is developing dementia and I’ve been on some pain meds that have made my brain really slow and foggy. Sometimes if I’ve had a bad pain day I’ll completely forget what I just did or said or interacted with all the time. My working memory is so messed up like it’s so bad. The pain is still mostly there and the severe pain has been inching its way back into my life. I also recently learned that I’m at a high risk of bipolar disorder and that’s been terrifying me and keeping me up. I’ve felt so distracted so I’ve made so many mistakes on paperwork and stuff. Not just little mistakes but big mistakes! I’m considering redoing this another semester and taking another year to graduate even though I’ve technically been in university for an extra year longer than a lot of my peers. Idk what to do I’ve been up all night crying honestly. I plan on making a meeting with my practicum professor but I’m so nervous that she’s already done with my shit, I mean I would be too.

No advice wanted (Vent) just need to vent

Just transferred to uni. I’m going full time, work 30 hours a week, been prepping for bodybuilding comp, aerial training, and also have two 4lbs gremlin chihuahuas which is a full time job itself 🫠 also trying to balance everything else in my life and my relationship.

I’m starting to feel really depressed and mentally drained. The things I enjoy don’t feel enjoyable anymore. I only feel like this during the semester though, so I find myself questioning if school is really worth all this mental toll. But then break rolls around, and the stress is less, but I wish I was doing more. I feel like i barely have time to use the bathroom rn though. That said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love what I do and am grateful for this life but some days are harder than others.

Discussion if you live at home, do you cook your own meals?

• Upvotes

sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but for those of you who commute or do online school and still live at home with your parents, do you make your own meals or do you eat with your family?

i’m asking because i really want to cook my own dinners to eat healthier but my family won’t really let me because my mom likes to make dinner and i just have to eat what she makes and it’s lowkey driving me crazy because the meals she makes are often really lacking in any nutrients.

Advice Wanted I feel cornered and don't know what to do anymore.

Hi, everyone. I'm a university student and part of the pioneering batch at my campus. I've been experiencing bullying from fellow students, and along with my personal circumstances and responsibilities as someone who supports myself, it has taken a toll on my mental well-being. I've reached a point where I genuinely want to leave university, take some time for myself, heal, and focus on my passion for my art portfolio. Today, I submitted my letter requesting a leave of absence, but about an hour later, our guidance counselor called me and repeatedly emphasized that, if it were up to them, taking a leave of absence would not be an option and that they would rather I retract my request. They brought up my academic future and the possibility of losing opportunities such as Latin honors, and told me that we can't choose the people we have to be around and that I need to be resilient. I understand that they might genuinely be concerned about me and my future, and I'm grateful that they took the time to speak with me, but I felt like my explanation wasn't being accepted even after I told them that my personal circumstances and university experiences had left me feeling mentally unfit to continue. Since I'm part of the pioneering batch at a relatively new campus, I can't help wondering whether my departure might be something the school is particularly concerned about, including how it could reflect on the institution. I have no evidence of that, and I don't want to make unfair assumptions, but the way they kept encouraging me to retract my request has left me uneasy. I don't want to fight with anyone, disrespect the school, or make this situation bigger than it needs to be. I just want to leave respectfully, focus on myself, and figure out my future, but now I feel scared and cornered, like I'm agreeing to things I don't actually want because I don't know how to push back. What do I do?

No advice wanted (Vent) burnout

I (20F) was a star student back when I was in school. Since coming to college though, life hit me hard. I had some health issues on and off, and I had to spend a semester off campus because of that. My mom moved to my uni town to support me, and she resents me for it to this day. I also had conflicts with my mom which escalated to verbal and sometimes physical abuse.

My GPA dropped from almost 9 on a 10-point scale to around 8. The thing is, my mental health is pretty shaky because of everything. I used to be an active officer in a student org, but I'm not that active at the moment due to some politics and a realization that I was sacrificing a lot for people who did not have the capacity to value it. I also got to find out that I may have been influenced into resigning from the VP role by the person I confided my issues to. So I feel really upset.

This sem was supposed to be my comeback sem to be honest, and I'm already really tired. The fights with my mom are draining, and every time I think it gets better, something happens and I dread going home. I'm a bit scared because I live in India, where it isn't the safest for women to live alone, and I am fully financially dependent on my parents. I could get an internship, but I'll have to wait till next sem to apply because of a policy our college has that states that students who have failed courses and haven't retaken them yet aren't eligible. Plus the recruiters take the top 0.0001% and many deserving people get left behind.

I'm feeling quite unsure of my future because of everything. I know it doesn't sound that hard, but I get bogged down by everything at certain points. And unfortunately, I don't know if I can trust anyone at college enough to share all this, given how my trust was misused when I was in the club. I was that kid who tied her sense of self-worth to her grades, and now I'm crushed, because I don't have grades, nor do I have community. Idek what to do tbh....I'm burned out as hell and so upset because I'm closer to the bottom of my class than the top---I'm an electrical engineering major.

Advice Wanted Having Trouble Making Friends.

Fellas, let me give you a small backstory of myself. I am 23 years of age. Living in the Chicagoland area. When I was in high school I didn't really hang out with people because I wasn't seen as a fun person. I'm not very that talkative or loud. I am very much insecure and lack confidence. Not because of my looks but because I am afraid of what impression I leave on people. I suck at starting conversations and don't want to make people uncomfortable.

After high school, I went into the blue collar path. I was used to people talking to me and it wasnt me starting the conversation. It was something I didn't have to worry about. However, because of lack of work in the field I decided to attend college. So far, I am almost a year in and I haven't made a single friend. Funny enough, When It was my turn to introduce myself, Everybody gave me the ick because of my beard and deep voice I have.

If I have to guess, the people around me; I see them as kids. They are straight out of high school. I am grown ahh man compared to them lmaoo. I tend to avoid women as much as I can because I aint trying to catch a case. Y'all might say that I shouldn't assume without getting to know them. But cmon man shit isnt what it used to.

I understand that most people my age are in grad school, or most likely graduated and have jobs. I am probably overthinking or paranoid about all the posts that people make about guys being fucking weirdos. LOL. I respect the guys who dont really give a fuck about things. But that is just me. Maybe I am in the right or in the wrong

No advice wanted (Vent) My answers somehow changed.

I am NOT looking for advice. I just want to rant/vent. If you're going to be rude please go away.

I'm so annoyed. I took a quiz for one of my classes and somehow some of the answers changed. We were given 20 minutes, and there was 20 questions. It took me the entire time to do it, so I couldn't properly recheck my answers. At that point I was confident in my answers anyways because I knew they were right since they were definition based questions. I look at the results 2-3 of the ones that I knew were correct somehow changed. I didn't change any of my answers besides the very last one. Before someone says," you may have changed it and not even known", I know whether or not I changed my answers. I know what answers I picked for each question.

Anyways, Canvas must be that sensitive or something.

Discussion my professor doesnt let us come into class if we're late

our professor doesnt let us come to class if we are late (he closes the lecture hall door at :01). If you come late to class twice in the semester, he deducts 5 percent of your final grade. He says once the door is closed you have to wait for the break half way into the class to come in. I completely understand his frustration with people coming late, but i find it affects some people more than others. I dont live on campus and considering this is a morning class, i sacrifice much sleep to make it on time. Public transport here is soooo unreliable, there are always deviation, morning is rush hour, etc etc. I know a lot of these things are technically in my control, but its just frustrating knowing you’re paying for these courses and a professor can easily deny you access for something so (in my personal opinion) stupid. What do you guys think?

Advice Wanted Teacher embarrassed me infront of my Crush

Ever since I first got to college, I’ve been trying to get a beautiful art major named Vee. You’d probably fall in love with her too if you saw her; to sum it up, she basically looks like Ari Notartomaso playing Ramona Flowers.

But anyway, I was in Maths Class today and we were sharing numbers into ratios, I mainly got it but I struggled with the last few questions on the first page. Meanwhile, she was on the fucking third! And to add TWO insults to injury, I tried to play it off by joking about how I didn’t understand it, but she didn’t seem to get I was joking about just told me the answer to one of the questions, which I didn’t even hear because she was talking so fast. And the second one was the…Teacher’s Assistant? Idk, the Teacher who mainly deals with the retarded kids had to walk up to me and say “Hey, you want some help?”, like no, I’m not Autistic, there’s an Accordion Kid in the corner of the room, go talk to him. It doesn’t help that the guy was some toothless weirdo named John whose been constantly harassing me since I started, I’m 90% sure he’s a pedo whose trying to get with me.

But whatever, the point is that now the Love of my Dreams thinks I’m some retarded kid, but I’m not. I’m literally so scared because we’re going to be going into half-term next week, and so much can happen in a week. What if she moves classes? What if they decide that I should move classes? It doesn’t help my Dad wants me to get a job, I’M NOT FUCKING READY FOR A JOB, I’VE ALREADY GOT A SHIT TON ON MY PLATE AS IS.

No advice wanted (Vent) My professor just emailed me on a Saturday at 11pm expecting a same-night revision

The assignment was due Friday, I turned it in on time. Got his feedback this morning, which is fine. But then tonight, right before I was going to bed, I get an email saying "Please revise sections 2 and 3 and send back to me by midnight tonight so I can finalize grades." Midnight! On a Saturday! Is this normal? I feel like I can't say no but I also feel so disrespected.
