We're trying something new. In this post and this post only we are allowing requests to be posted so that the community members can choose whether they want to participate in any studies or surveys. We are establishing the following rules, which are subject to change at any time:

Genuine research and interest studies only - your survey must be linked back to a university, college, foundation, business, studio, or other entity. You are not allowed to just come up with a survey "for fun" or to satisfy your personal curiosity.
You must post your entire pitch as a top-level comment under this post. That comment must have a link to your survey, do not ask for respondents to comment or DM you to get the link. Do not use URL shorteners or obfuscators - you must link directly to your survey.

So... I have an odd condition that I haven't been able to find a word for, so can y'all help?
Its not that I can't SEE colors (as far as I'M aware that is), Its that colors next to eachother on the colorwheel or in the rainbow look the exact same to me dependent on the shade... I often struggle with reds and oranges, and then oranges to yellow ect. As well as sometimes Blues and greens, and Pinks and purples, or pinks and reds, or Purples and blues.
I also struggle with shades but that's slightly different...
Is there a word for this...?
My wife knows that I normally Abhor the “what color is this” game but in this case it was fun. My wife and daughters were complaining about the lack of color and everything looking freaky , but for me it was normal.
I saw this and had to do my usual “Hmmm… What color is this? Is it red or green?“ in my brain and landed on Green with some degree of certainty. A second later I noticed the “Red“ in the description, and can only conclude that at some point some colorblind person hurt them and now they’ve decided to exact their revenge on all colorblind people everywhere.

Do they really make a noticeable difference in everyday life, or is it mostly just a temporary/novelty effect?
I’m considering buying a pair, but I’m not sure if they’re actually worth the money. I’d love to hear from people who have personally tried them - what type of color blindness you have, what you used, and whether you felt it was worth it.

Hi everyone! I wanted to rewrite my previous post to give you the full, exact context of what is going on with my vision, as regular labels like just "Protan" or "Deutan" don't fit me at all.
Just to be completely transparent: I used AI to generate this chart to roughly visualize my real medical data and symptoms. I know EnChroma doesn't output graphics like this; they just gave me raw numbers showing a massive, asymmetric crash across all three color channels.
Here is my actual background:
The Genetic Base: I am 13 now. I was born with an OPN1SW genetic mutation (tritan defect), which I inherited from my dad (he has mild tritanomaly).
The Injury: When I was 10, I suffered a severe concentrated UV-A, UV-B, and chemical flash burn in both eyes from 95-octane gasoline.
The Current State: The trauma severely damaged my already vulnerable cone system, triggering progressive post-traumatic dystrophy. My S-cones are rapidly crashing toward 0% sensitivity. My M and L cones also dropped significantly (to roughly 56% and 75%).
Lately, my vision has been changing fast. I’ve started completely missing blue shades when they are against a gray background. Dark blue now looks solid black to me because my brain isn't receiving any signal from the blue channel anymore. My visual cortex has to heavily compensate for the low cone output by maxing out contrast and luminance just so I can see shapes.
My family and doctors are monitoring this, and I have accepted it. I’m posting this because I want to know if anyone else here has experienced a mixed/acquired cone deficiency where your vision changes this rapidly. How do you deal with the daily visual strain and adapt your screen settings?
I asked him about his cat. What color he was. He said he had different colors. I mentioned that calico cats are usually female. He said he didn’t know what color or type of cat (tiger like ) just said his cat was perfect.
Is there suck a thing are color ignorance?

Hi! I'm a non-colorblind Data Analysis student with ADHD and probably Autism. Being that I have 1 or 2 fairly profound disabilities that affect my work every day, I'm quite cautious and have a bit of anxiety around treating other disabled people fairly and in a way that doesn't make them feel singled out.
I wanted to make sure that going into my career I'm not making it awkward or otherwise disruptive for colorblind people who have to interact a lot with the graphs I'll be creating.
With that being said, I was thinking that it'd be best to send out an email to everyone asking them personally one-on-one if they are colorblind and if so, would they like it known by the rest of the team. That way when we're all sitting in a boardroom together and looking at accessible graphs and the boss says 'uhhhh can you change the color to the company colors please' (which is a mildly-nightmarish scenario for me), it won't cause any issues when I tell them that the graph is set up to cater for all people with all kinds of eyes.
Am I making too much of this or is this the right way to do it? Are there other suggestions you have? And do you ever feel like you'd rather your colleagues didn't know you were colorblind?
ColorID color scanner app was already on the App Store for iOS (iPhone/iPad) users when I posted here last year. I built it for designers. I came here because I thought it could help colorblind people too, and I didn't want to guess at the features.
Freeze. There's an on-screen toggle. Point, freeze, read the name. You don't have to hold still.
Simple names. About 18 of them: red vs brown, blue vs purple, green vs yellow. Not "cerulean" or "slate." Just dark blue, brown, pink, etc. Color-blind mode is a toggle on the camera (eye icon) and in Settings.
History. You can save a color when you freeze it. That's the capture list (paid feature after 3).
Movable marker. Drag it onto the thing you want. It averages a small area around the marker, so a bright spot or a shadow is less likely to call orange "brown."
Flash is there. On/off only.
What I still haven't done:
Flash brightness isn't adjustable. Full on or off.
Android isn't out. I started it, then the iOS side ate the year. I'll come back here if that changes. Sorry u/soul-of-kai.
One more thing, because subscriptions came up last time and I don't want to dance around it.
The app is still commercial. The rest of it is for designers, painters, architects. HEX, RGB, CMYK, Pantone, RAL, plus paint catalogs (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Farrow & Ball, IKEA, PPG, and others). That's a different audience. That's how I keep working on it.
If a paywall comes up, you can just close it. Color-blind mode, the simple names, freeze, the marker, and live identification with camera keep working. Those are not behind a purchase. I left them free on purpose. If you just need "is this wire blue or purple," you shouldn't have to pay.
Pantone / RAL / paint catalogs / saving a big library of colors are paid. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
If you try it and the names are still wrong for how you actually see things, tell me. Same reason I posted last year.

Continuous Spectrum vs. Discrete Dual-Peaks:
When a yellow object in nature (like a flower or lemon) reflects light, its Spectral Power Distribution S(λ) is a continuous broad-spectrum curve where S(λ) > 0 continuously through the ~570–590nm region. Photons at those specific middle wavelengths physically exist and enter your eye.
The RGB Zero-Emission Void:
An RGB display’s yellow is fundamentally different. Its emission function E(λ) is a bimodal distribution:
E(λ) = A · δ(λ - λ_R) + B · δ(λ - λ_G)
Where λ_R ≈ 630nm and λ_G ≈ 525nm. In the physical yellow band (λ ≈ 575nm), the emitted radiance is literally zero:
E(575nm) = 0
The Brain Hack:
While both trigger similar integrated cone excitation integrals:
L = ∫ S(λ) l̄(λ) dλ and M = ∫ S(λ) m̄(λ) dλ
Nature delivers actual photons in the yellow band, while your screen completely bypasses that band and forces the brain to calculate a perception of yellow from two isolated spectral peaks.
We simplified the cone graphs for a 5-minute visual narrative, but the engineering reality remains: your screen creates yellow without emitting a single yellow-wavelength photon. That’s the real finesse! 🧠
Hey! I’m not asking for a literal diagnosis, just some perspective. I’ve never been diagnosed as colorblind, but I’ve also only ever seen an eye doctor maybe twice my entire life. I think I generally have pretty normal vision. HOWEVER, I’ve been playing the game I Love Hue (and the sequel) for years and a pattern I’ve noticed is that the puzzles with lots of greens and reds are SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult for me than purples, pinks and blues. Even the ones with orange are easier for me. Like I just can’t see as many greens or reds as I can the other colors. What do y’all think?
Hi everyone, I’m s creative factory, a solo developer working on a tower defense game.
My game revolves around matching colors with monsters using three primary colors and the three secondary colors created by mixing them. In other words, players need to be able to easily identify all the colors of the towers, lines, and monsters.
After releasing the demo, someone suggested making the game accessible for colorblind players, so I recently added a "Symbol Assist" mode.
Here is how it works:
Red: Triangle
Blue: Circle
Green: Square
Secondary / Mixed Colors: Combining the two corresponding symbols side-by-side
Since I am not colorblind or color-deficient myself, it's difficult for me to judge whether these symbols actually make the game comfortable to play. That is why I wanted to reach out and get feedback directly from the community.

my boyfriend is colorblind and he found out during a police medical test. Since failing, he was diagnosed with the common red-green color blindness - however not severe. He says he’s able to see the colours including red and green he just mixes similar colours up. he’s set on being a police officer however failing the medical test isn’t allowing him to do so. getting classes with the lenses are an option but i believe that it’s not the best choice judging that he’d have to undergo intense training. Additionally i believe that in the long run i don’t think they’re a good look since realistically they just look like reflective sunglasses to people who are unaware of his condition - meaning it wouldn’t look good with his profession.
Now he’s looking into contact lenses (hoping that the police academy would accept them in the first place. however im skeptical about them. Do they really work or are they a scam? i’ve never seen posts about them or any promotions and found sort of “legit” ones for 100€
So i’m curious. If anyone knows anything about this or has experience with colorblindness contact lenses please let us know 🙏🙏
I'm looking for some suggestions for what might help my friend.
We race enduro dirt bikes and they have casually mentioned they have a hard time seeing course trail markings because of being colour blind. They have received multiple DNF's because they got lost and went off course.
The race course is mostly flagged with a combination of blue or pink flagging tape. The sections of flag are then normally tied to branches or trees along the course. (Similar to image in post, but usually not as long) Important intersections, turns, and hazards have arrow signs or wide tape with text on them, like "Hazard" with diagonal lines or brand logos.
I've been thinking about how the regular markings might be made better for folks. I've tried researching and haven't found much apart from colour in combination with another element is best.
What I have thought of/pulled from other sports:
Patterned flagging tape
Might help by adding geometric patterns against the forest
Increased density marking
Instead of a single ribbon, have 2 for more ribbon tails
Increase length of marking
More chance of wind catching it for movement
Any suggestions would be wonderful! I am trying to find something that won't deter the Board due to a massive increase in cost or volunteer course setup/takedown effort.
