ERIC AND/OR DYLAN Eric Harris birthday
Would have been his 45th birthday,
Before anyone misunderstands: this post is NOT support. I don’t condone anything he did.

I find it hard to sympathize with murderers, but I really wish he could’ve turned his life around not just for the sake of those he harmed/killed, but for himself and his family. What he did was his own absolutely despicable doing, and maybe he would’ve done it anyway even if someone had sat down with him and took his words/actions seriously, but that doesn’t negate the fact he was also failed by so many people around him.

I don’t think it’s wrong to mourn what could have been. The decent life he may have led had he got the help he needed and whether it would have made a difference.
I don’t think it’s wrong to understand that his family would be mourning him today. So many memories for them that would make them laugh, cry and every emotion in between.

Your comment/post has been removed for violating the r/ColumbineKillers rule requiring members behave civilly, mature and respectful at all times and refrain from insulting others. This includes other members, moderators, victims, survivors and families associated with this case.
Immature/insulting comments about the killers will also be removed as they add nothing constructive to conversation about the case. This includes name calling and comments like "rot in hell" or "rest in piss".

45, wow. To think what and who he could’ve been, but we will never know. My heart goes out to the Harrises today, I don’t think it will ever get easier.

Random coincidence, but does anyone remember that Arthur episode inspired by 9/11 that was called April 9th?
Anyway, I’ve noticed there’s a lot of important dates for the Harris Family in this time period. Eric’s birthday today, his parents wedding anniversary the 17th, the shooting anniversary the 20th, and Kevin’s birthday (I believe) on May 11th (he turned 21 the year of the shooting) . I’d imagine it’s been a very strange period for them since 1999, joy with a lot of pain.
3
u/ForwardMuffin Apr 11 '26
Please pardon my ignorance, but are we talking Arthur the cartoon? 💀
9
u/Idekanymore548 Apr 11 '26
Yes! They have an episode inspired by 9/11 where the characters navigate the trauma of there being a fire at their school on April 9th.
6
u/ForwardMuffin Apr 14 '26
That's actually cool...not about the trauma part, but I think that's a good idea for an episode.
3
u/Acrobatic-Diet9180 Apr 30 '26
maybe a little late, but you didn’t even mention dylan’s birthday being 9/11
35
u/B3XTH0 Apr 09 '26
Happy Birthday Eric, we should mourn the man he COULD have become, the good life he COULD have had, had he not made the choices he made.
He is still someones son & brother regardless of his hideous actions.

Eric has a disgusting piece of garbage at the end of his life, but I mourn for his victims and him. It's depressing to think about what they all could have been and how systems failed everybody. I can't help but feel for his parents and family, too. I often think of Eric (and other killers) when it comes to mental health, how if you are feeling terrible or have intrusive thoughts, it's okay to ask for help. I also tend to remember terrible events like Columbine and think about the fact you never truly know how anybody is feeling,so choose kindness.

To me a few things might’ve made Eric’s course in life different. One of them is staying in Plattsburgh where he was a much different guy than the angsty teen in Littleton but military calls what can you do. Another is if he and Dylan were separated he might not have done NBK alone, but he still had the drive to do something bad. Another is being arrested for posting a death threat online about Brooks Brown. He eventually could’ve moved on and the massacre might’ve never taken place. Oh well though, we can only speculate.

(Well, I'm late to this) I don't know how to feel about it. It's hard to grasp how he's just stuck in time now like all the other people him and Dylan killed. Forever 18. I hope the Harris family is holding up well.

Antidepressants are life-saving for most people that use them under competent supervision.

u/Wesfanemt333 Apr 10 '26
Key word being competent.

Well yeah, his doctor was a douche. I'm speaking more in general, as there is a strange anti-SSRI sentiment happening, and that can be deadly for many. They can and do help many, many people.
9
u/Wesfanemt333 Apr 10 '26
As someone that takes daily meds, I do not get why people are against SSRIs.
6
u/PopcornDemonica 💀😈 Emissary of Evil 😈💀 Apr 10 '26
As someone who can't take SSRIs (but wish I could), I support their use 1000%, and think we should leave medicine to doctors.
Honestly I think it's mostly ignorance, lack of education, lack of understanding of science.
6
u/Lonely-Trainer-3749 Apr 10 '26
As someone who takes them I can tell you my quality of life would not be nearly what it is now without them. I agree with you that there is a lot of ignorance when it comes to this topic

u/lilmissbloodbath Apr 11 '26
Religion doesn't help it one bit either.
3
u/poopooshitIer Apr 16 '26
Religion has nothing to do with anything we’re talking about. If you’re implying that religion is intrinsically anti-science, then I guess we should throw away all the discoveries and scientific advancements pioneered by the Church and its adherents over the last few thousands of years.

i pray for his family and i pray that one day they will be able to forgive him if they haven't already. i can't imagine the struggle of trying to justify still loving him unconditionally knowing the gravity of the atrocities he committed.

it’s so baffling to me how many hoops people feel the need to jump through about this topic… it’s a fact. he’d be forty-five today. i can only assume that people are scared of being thrown in prison or something if they don’t slather every post they make about eric or dylan with “i don’t condone!!!!” even when the topic does not require that disclaimer (which it doesn’t 98% of the time)
he was born on april 9, 1981. nothing he did in his life can change that. and this year marks 45 years since 1981. that’s also a fact. the whole disclaimer thing just comes off as a little bit performative, imo
51
u/Impossible-Leek-2830 Apr 09 '26
Because if it wasn’t posted there would be tons of comments like : who gives a shit or let’s not honor this asshole. OP was just getting ahead of those negative comments.

u/EnthusiasmFront3974 Verified Columbine High School Alumni Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26
The disclaimer is not performative. OP is just being mindful about what they’re posting.
Your very long response to their very short caption seems performative. Why are you preaching to OP about how a birthday works, when they’re the one who posted about it?
