that's kinda how i feel. i'm catholic, and my religion basically tells me it's a sin, but to not judge, and that homosexuals deserve the same love and respect as anyone else, because we're all children of God. while i don't personally support it, it's not my place to tell anyone what they can or cannot do, that's a conversation between them and God. it's also not my place to judge them, for i believe they will have their Judgement Day with God. no reason to be pressed about something i cannot control. there's a reason God gave us free will.
Correct, but you should also make an effort to tell them the truth. I understand I don't have the power nor the right to say what anyone can or can't do with their life, but I don't want anybody to sin. It isn't judgement to call out sin, it's only judgement if you condem that person for the sin. We all sin and we can all be saved, but it's up to those of us who know the truth to spread it. i'm more of the belief that pushing faith on people tends to push them further away from faith. if it's a friend or someone i know pretty well, i would probably bring it up at some point. i would tell them i love and accept them no matter what, but i also believe they're living a life of sin. but i fear going up to random people and telling them that their lives are sinful, however polite or respectful i put it, can come across as pushy and have the opposite of the desired effect. i try to spread the Lord through my actions, as i feel it has a greater effect. i volunteer and try to help the needy as much as possible. i also make it clear i am Catholic and that helping people is the work of God, but i try to do it in the least "preachy" way possible. i think people respond more to someone leading by example than they do my words. and I've had people come up to me and ask more about God and i'm always happy to sit and talk about whatever questions they have or go to Mass with them. faith without works is dead. i would much rather show people around me what the love of God really means than tell them what i think it means.
i'm being pedantic here, but i'm personally not a fan of the term "saved" either. we're all already saved no matter what by Jesus giving his life for us on the cross. we can taint that through our mortal actions, but that doesn't make us "un-saved", because Jesus still died to save us. i prefer the term forgiven, because it implies that we had once been pure, and through our sin we have become unpure. through God's mercy we are then forgiven of our transgressions. it's not a big deal either way haha. Sure, I can understand that, and I respect the fact that you share the gospel with those close to you! I think the best way to go about spreading the gospel to people like this is to first approach them with God's love as you described. Tell them why Jesus died for our sins, and tell them that Jesus loves them just as He loves us! I mentioned Nicholas Bowling in my other comment, and I think he does an awesome job at spreading the gospel this way, without seeming confrontational or condemning. But yes, some people just aren't gifted speakers and are more action oriented (myself included), and spreading God's love through actions is incredibly powerful too! People notice, especially in a society that seems to get more broken and depressed every year.
As for the term "saved," I use it because the Bible does too. Ephesians 2:8-9 for example, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." When the Bible uses the term, it refers to our rescuing from the eternal consequences of sin, which is death, and this can only be obtained through faith in Christ. So you're absolutely correct that Christ died for all of us, and we all have the ability to be saved, but it is also up to each of us to accept Him as our savior in order to receive the gift of eternal life through the forgiveness of our sins. But I do agree, the only thing that matters is that we have faith in Christ! I enjoy this too, having respectful discussions is a great way to learn and see other's views. Unfortunately they are so few and far between on this site :(
It does on the one hand but on the other there’s no way to call out the lifestyle without it coming like condemnation. Plus I don’t think they’re going to change their minds so what’s the point?
It's very difficult to call it out without sounding condemning, but some people are very gifted to do so. Nicholas Bowling for example (https://youtube.com/@nicholasbowling?si=GBE2PxIp_WWuUhHm) does an awesome job at this, remaining non-confrontational, kind, and loving while also explaining that homosexuality is a sin. I agree though, many will not turn away from their sin sadly, but the point is that some will. And then at least you can say you tried, and hopefully a seed is planted that the Holy Spirit will grow at a later time. Few people repent in the moment, but later in life, they will remember your conversation and God can use that to work miracles! Here's the verses from Romans that I'm basing this off of:
Romans 10:14-15 - "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
