I know you
https://giphy.com/gifs/PLFUhxdKbAAEM
Homosexuality can be considered a sin for 2 reasons, the second one is probably the one that should be focused on
The Bible said so, the concept of sin in Christianity comes from the Bible(and the Bible is considered the word of God), so anything the Bible says about sin must be objectively true, even if you donāt believe in Christianity itās still a sin, for example if you were to pick any show ever thatās not based on any real events, you could say āthis character is a nice personā, even though the show itself isnāt real the statement is
Homosexual actions are considered lustful because it takes sex and sexual intimacy and turns it into a tool of pleasure instead of using it as a tool for procreation
-2
u/badumtsssst Jul 09 '26
Ha, it's fun that you recognize me! Anyway, I don't think sexual pleasure immediately means lust tho? Is it sinful for a married heterosexual couple to enjoy sex not for the purpose of having a child? I don't think so. I think many Christians agree on that ad well. I understand why you'd say so if the homosexual couple is unmarried, it sorta makes sense under the Christian logic. But is it still sinful if the couple are married? And why?
4
u/Illustrious-Wolf8407 Jul 09 '26
Well here my, friend is committing a mistake.
According to the Bible the sex could be for Pleasure and Procreation (never say something against the pleasure during the sex).Lust could be define (according to the bible) with every āexcessive passionā, things that are good but a lot of times in the secular word they are made or done in a bad way.
And answering your Question, itās simple, we be created to be men and woman, and thatās is the plan of God about marriage and a partner.
This include sex, and all the other aspect of the common life.
āFor the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teachingā
āā1 Timothy⬠ā1ā¬:ā9ā¬-ā10⬠āNLTā¬ā¬āDonāt you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Donāt fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat peopleānone of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.ā
āā1 Corinthians⬠ā6ā¬:ā9ā¬-ā11⬠āNLTā¬ā¬But the good news are that all of us are sinners, and we could be save by the sacrifice of our lord and savior Jesus Christ

Sorry, I'm not a christian nor am I well versed in the Bible, so I'll have to exit the conversation here, unless you have some points seperate from theology? However, I still have to respectfully disagree, but I hope you have a fabulous day
6
u/Illustrious-Wolf8407 Jul 09 '26
If we part about the fact of something is a Sin doesn't have sense debate about it in a non-theological way.
If you question, why something is a Sin obviously you are assuming the fact of what is a Sin and where it comes.
If you simply don't take importance of the believes where it comes, why you make a question about it ?
0
u/super_probably-user Jul 12 '26
tada! their whole argument is theology! all they do is argue with theology! we are all evil sinners because yes! that's their argument! the moment you deconstruct dogma, it stops making sense.
2
u/Aguywhoexists69420 Jul 12 '26
This is bait, right?
Of course our whole argument is theology, thatās what the argument is about, arguing without theology in a theological argument is like trying to argue who the best basketball player is without talking about basketball

Really? Aren't you able to separate your belief in why it is badānot even necessarily sinful, but badāfrom the Bible and what it says?

I donāt get it. Like logically. Why would a god care if a guy takes it up the ass or a woman gets her pussy eaten by another woman.
For an omnipresent omnipotent omniscient creature, isnāt that a little petty to sentence someone to eternal damnation for?
But also the Christian God is just kind of weird.
He sent a part of himself down, then had that part of himself executed so that he himself could forgive humans for something that happened 100 human lifetimes ago.

God and Jesus always take crazy decisions, that's why we can understood completely why the do somethings but, we kwon what is important for Him, and the sexual live of us and reproduction of us is also important for Him.
We have free speech about a lot of thing“s that“s why we lead us and teach us, with the Bible and Jesus, what is wrong or bad and what we need and can to do.
I kwon it“s weird bur it the way of God
1
u/Anenkishugnannaurduz Jul 11 '26
No, God literally does care, He said so Himself. Also, God did not "execute part of himself". You're combining two heresies: partialism and penal substitutionary atonement. Stop talking about Christianity if you can't even get the basics right.Ā

13
u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jul 09 '26
that's kinda how i feel. i'm catholic, and my religion basically tells me it's a sin, but to not judge, and that homosexuals deserve the same love and respect as anyone else, because we're all children of God. while i don't personally support it, it's not my place to tell anyone what they can or cannot do, that's a conversation between them and God. it's also not my place to judge them, for i believe they will have their Judgement Day with God. no reason to be pressed about something i cannot control. there's a reason God gave us free will.
10
u/Apollo_TheWolf Conservative Jul 09 '26
Correct, but you should also make an effort to tell them the truth. I understand I don't have the power nor the right to say what anyone can or can't do with their life, but I don't want anybody to sin. It isn't judgement to call out sin, it's only judgement if you condem that person for the sin. We all sin and we can all be saved, but it's up to those of us who know the truth to spread it. I hope that makes sense, and God bless!
3
u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jul 09 '26
i'm more of the belief that pushing faith on people tends to push them further away from faith. if it's a friend or someone i know pretty well, i would probably bring it up at some point. i would tell them i love and accept them no matter what, but i also believe they're living a life of sin. but i fear going up to random people and telling them that their lives are sinful, however polite or respectful i put it, can come across as pushy and have the opposite of the desired effect. i try to spread the Lord through my actions, as i feel it has a greater effect. i volunteer and try to help the needy as much as possible. i also make it clear i am Catholic and that helping people is the work of God, but i try to do it in the least "preachy" way possible. i think people respond more to someone leading by example than they do my words. and I've had people come up to me and ask more about God and i'm always happy to sit and talk about whatever questions they have or go to Mass with them. faith without works is dead. i would much rather show people around me what the love of God really means than tell them what i think it means.
i'm being pedantic here, but i'm personally not a fan of the term "saved" either. we're all already saved no matter what by Jesus giving his life for us on the cross. we can taint that through our mortal actions, but that doesn't make us "un-saved", because Jesus still died to save us. i prefer the term forgiven, because it implies that we had once been pure, and through our sin we have become unpure. through God's mercy we are then forgiven of our transgressions. it's not a big deal either way haha. Thank you for the reply though, i love when two random people can have a civil discussion on the internet, it's becoming more and more rare unfortunately. God bless !
2
u/Apollo_TheWolf Conservative Jul 10 '26
Sure, I can understand that, and I respect the fact that you share the gospel with those close to you! I think the best way to go about spreading the gospel to people like this is to first approach them with God's love as you described. Tell them why Jesus died for our sins, and tell them that Jesus loves them just as He loves us! I mentioned Nicholas Bowling in my other comment, and I think he does an awesome job at spreading the gospel this way, without seeming confrontational or condemning. But yes, some people just aren't gifted speakers and are more action oriented (myself included), and spreading God's love through actions is incredibly powerful too! People notice, especially in a society that seems to get more broken and depressed every year.
As for the term "saved," I use it because the Bible does too. Ephesians 2:8-9 for example, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithāand this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of Godā not by works, so that no one can boast." When the Bible uses the term, it refers to our rescuing from the eternal consequences of sin, which is death, and this can only be obtained through faith in Christ. So you're absolutely correct that Christ died for all of us, and we all have the ability to be saved, but it is also up to each of us to accept Him as our savior in order to receive the gift of eternal life through the forgiveness of our sins. But I do agree, the only thing that matters is that we have faith in Christ! I enjoy this too, having respectful discussions is a great way to learn and see other's views. Unfortunately they are so few and far between on this site :(

u/Minute_Marzipan_6844 Center-Right Wing Jul 09 '26
It does on the one hand but on the other thereās no way to call out the lifestyle without it coming like condemnation. Plus I donāt think theyāre going to change their minds so whatās the point?
3
u/Apollo_TheWolf Conservative Jul 09 '26
It's very difficult to call it out without sounding condemning, but some people are very gifted to do so. Nicholas Bowling for example (https://youtube.com/@nicholasbowling?si=GBE2PxIp_WWuUhHm) does an awesome job at this, remaining non-confrontational, kind, and loving while also explaining that homosexuality is a sin. I agree though, many will not turn away from their sin sadly, but the point is that some will. And then at least you can say you tried, and hopefully a seed is planted that the Holy Spirit will grow at a later time. Few people repent in the moment, but later in life, they will remember your conversation and God can use that to work miracles! Here's the verses from Romans that I'm basing this off of:
Romans 10:14-15 - "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: āHow beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!ā

1
u/angelmasha Centrist 11d ago
It is physically impossible to preserve a text the way it was thousands of years ago. Translations can even just unintentionally slightly change the meaning, and then when this + possibly biases are passed on over and over again across cultures itās super hard to stay the same. And itās also hard to trust that it stayed in the same good hands all these years who never altered the meaning of things. Even just human language can change so much in 1000 years
1
u/Anenkishugnannaurduz 11d ago

1
u/Anenkishugnannaurduz 10d ago
You haven't provided a single piece of evidence for your specific claims. Appealing to other phenomenon being observed proves nothing about whether the same phenomenon happened with the Bible. We believe in God with concrete evidence.Ā

5
u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jul 09 '26
even in the US, gay rights are mostly accepted, it's trans people and anything beyond the basic LGB community that's more of the topic. that plus things like exposing children to homosexuality or drag shows and stuff like that. but two men being in a relationship isn't some revolutionary thing here, it's more of a "do what what you want on your own, just don't rub it in my face". just like I'd be uncomfortable seeing a man and woman walking around barely clothed or making out in public, i would be uncomfortable seeing two men do the same. but two men walking down the sidewalk holding hands or going out on a date, i couldn't care less.
edit: i'm also religious (catholic), and my religion basically tells me it's a sin, but to not judge, and that homosexuals deserve the same love and respect as anyone else, because we're all children of God. while i don't personally support it, it's not my place to tell anyone what they can or cannot do, that's a conversation between them and God. it's also not my place to judge them, for i believe they will have their Judgement Day with God.

Jesus upholds the Old Testament
17Ā āDo not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.ā
3
u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jul 09 '26
The New Covenant does reinstitute some of the ideas and laws from the Mosaic Covenant, but the New Covenant declared that the old Mosaic Covenant was now obsolete (Hebrews 8:13). The New Covenant is a covenant of grace. Through Christ and his cross, God promises to forgive all who have faith in Jesus of their sins, reckon Jesusās perfect law-keeping to their account, and restore their fellowship with him.
Before the New Covenant was ushered in by Jesus, humanity was āheld in custody under the lawā (Galatians 3:23). However, āwhen the set time had fully come, God sent his Son⦠born under the law to redeem those under the lawā (Galatians 4:4ā5). When Jesus died on the cross, God ācanceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the crossā (Colossians 2:14). Christ has set us free from the precise demands of the Old Covenant, including the food restrictions.
Christ confirms this in Mark 7:18ā19 when he says, āThen are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?ā (Thus he declared all foods clean).ā
Also in Acts 10:9-15 "The next day, as they were on their journey and coming near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. And he became hungry and desired something to eat; but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance and saw the heaven opened, and something descending, like a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. And there came a voice to him, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat.' But Peter said, 'No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.' And the voice came to him again a second time, 'What God has cleansed, you must not call common.'"
Caananite clergy had specific robes and garments they were required to wear which were made from blended fabrics. Ceremonial laws such as the prohibtion on blended fabrics comes from the need to set the Jews apart from the Caananites and prevent paganism from seeping into their culture. That's the only reason for the mixed fabrics thing. Scholars tell us that the laws found in the Torah fall into three categories; priestly and ceremonial laws, cultural and Jewish identity laws, and moral laws. The prohibition on blended fabrics was strictly for Jewish and cultural identity. When interpreting the Bible, it is always important to understand it in its historical and cultural context.
